  • South Africa has been suffering from a massive visa backlog for months now. And while the Department of Home Affairs is clearing the backlog, they seem to be paying no attention to the spousal visa, with its lack of adjudication and spouses waiting years for outcomes.

    Marriage and family units are not valued. I am married for 12years to sa spouse. Had a spousal visa told spousal visa has expired..had to apply for a letter of good cause and reapply for spousal visa which am waiting for. My skills are in demand in many countries ..but leaving my family will eventually lead to separation. Unless she leaves with me and never return to SA. Most people can't stay married for long and hence devalue the importance of holding a family together and it's benefits to society.

      I applied for renewal of my spouse visa. Waiting already 2 years for it. I needed to travel to my country. I asked at the SA embassy in my country for a letter saying that I have the right to travel back to SA with expired visa +the application receipt for the renewal. They told me that I need to apply for tourist visa to be able to go back to South Africa. 🤔 They expect me to pay twice for a visa because someone didn't do his work. I sent emails to Home Affairs and no response from them. This situation is a such joke.

    I applied with a job offer for a spousal visa with work endorsement in March 2022. No updates no nothing! Whenever i call the DHA Helpline and ask if theres any indication how far my application is or how long it will take, they immediately end the call without a comment. Happened four times now!

    South Africans may also prioritise their family and end up leaving South Africa, taking their skills and taxes elsewhere. Even if a foreign spouse is unemployed, the family unit as a whole is contributing financially to the economy through day-to-day expenses.

    The truth is that many people in the general public that are affected by this are too afraid to speak out, for fear of backlash.

    Hope SAQA knows that DHA is focusing on critical-skills visa. Cause it could take them more than a year to assess your foreign diploma, and this is not what we might expect in case they are also "focused".

    It is discrimination saying this group is more important than the other group of visa applicants. I hope the Minister is aware of this.

    Sounds like the government of South Africa punishes its locals who are married to foreigners 😅!!

    • @ikhowaka1471
      @ikhowaka1471 Před 7 měsíci +2

      Yes it's a crime to be married to a foreign national. But if a proper analysis is done. You will observe that the marriage to foreign spouses in general last longer .. even though they are subjected to challenges.

      If a man is married to south african woman means she should go to husband country that is tradition as blacks in south africa which means the woman now belongs to that man's family. So I do not know how it's done in other countries but to many foreigners marry south africans and expect to be now south african citizens
