  • I failed my structural engineering exam (SE exam) and I'm bummed but ready to move forward better and stronger with a few new tricks up my sleeve. The engineering concepts I've learned previously have made me a better professional engineer and my live study sessions moving forward will help me pass the se exam! Why did I fail my structural engineering exam? lets talk...

Dude, I know the feeling, I'm at least 15 years older than you, and I was bullied by my colleagues because I got my civil Engineering degree from a NOT so Prestigious School, it took me 3 Attempts to Pass the "FE" Exam and 6 Attempts to Pass the "PE" (what a Journey !), you are one of the reasons Im considering pursuing the "SE", Just FOCUS ON THE REWARDS MAN. Cheers.

Sorry to hear you didn’t pass! I sacrificed 2021 for SE exam. Took both one in a time. Studied really hard above and beyond. I did AEI and some extra work from other sources to cover topics I didn’t feel good about. I passed both but it was really tough especially considering my not so “fancy” background. I’m sure you can do it, too! One more paper exam left. Good luck!

  • @QuickQuestionEngineering

Great video Rich! I'm in the same boat and will be taking it again this April. Let's keep our chin up and do our best to knock this out!

I know I'm a little late to the party but thanks for sharing! Being open and honest about the process about being an engineer is one of my favorite things about you and your channel. I watch because the information and problems you tackle inspire me to research for myself and inspire me to look at my own engineering problems differently.
It's not about how many times you fall down, its about never staying down!
Good stuff and good luck on the next attempt!

Minor setback. Keep on grinding you will get it done. These tests are not a full representation of the engineer you can just have a bad day...bad sleep... bad anything and change your outcome. Again any tips or tricks from my experience you may want to inquire about feel free to reach out to me. Time management is so important. Flowcharts, charts/tables, codemaster sheets are my biggest recommendations and are all great to help save you those little bits of time on problems to allow you some extra time in areas you may need it. Love your channel and the help it is going to provide others dealing with the licensure process. Again was super helpful for me to go back and touch some topics when I recently went back to take the Civil PE and I'm very appreciative of the time you spend doing this for others.

You are a beautiful human being Rich, your decision of putting out your own structural engineering journey to the world in such a careful and wholesome manner is so helpful to me and I’m sure it’s so helpful to so many others. I continue to hope to learn great contents from you and I wish you best of luck for next Time.

Keep it going! I know this is probably quite a bump in the road, but I have full confidence you'll be able to get yourself to an SE license, soon. Remember to take a breath sometimes, too! Working harder is excellent, but not when it comes at the cost of your mental sanity. Wishing you nothing but the best.

I failed the vertical in 2020 and passed in 2022. Time management was absolutely my biggest issue both times.
Bonus on a second time taking it is that some problems were very similar between the two exams I took.
Good luck! I’ll be taking the lateral in April 😬

Just a quick comment. I strongly believe that by acknowledging there's improvements to be done, it shows how great of an engineer you really are. I also strongly recomend you carry this mindset even after you pass the exam. The moment you reach your "black belt" in engineering (pass the exam) that's exactly a new begining, and that's exactly when people will need to be humble and still acknowledge that there's ALWAYS improvements to be done. that's the nature of engineering, right ? Pretty sure all the studying made you a better engineer and a better person all together! Good luck !

in Florida and NYC where I am, and we have the tallest buildings in western hemisphere I would guess that 95 percent of structural engineers are not SE. majority of SE s I know didnt pass on first time. the journey continues, I love the channel

Keep trying, keep fighting. You will get this one on a re-take! Failed my PE so the feeling is mutual. At least spring and summer are coming up in WA (your state?) and that will help you cope easier with the nice weather and outdoor visits. Good luck, man! :)
PS: Please post more PE practice vids. Those have been missing from your posts lately.

Things keep changing like taking exams from paper to computer, in 2018, midsized to large airports have to a special room for nursing mom and now we know what specific architecture for people with disabilities like Deafspaces, autism spaces called A.S.P.EC.T.S.S and having architecture drawings for blind community.
