    I was so afraid of a major fight breaking out between Grazer and 909, and Grazers yearlings attacking 909's 7 month old cub. I'am so happy that it didn't happen 🤗🤗!!
    Thank you Mike for the commentary!!!
    I love those BEARS 😍😍😍😍!!!!

    Mike once again your knowledge and experience with the bears is exceptional thank you sooo much. Love these bears 🐻 I have watched Grazer 128 since her first Cubs (3) she is a fierce mother but that 909 has a special place in my heart for her defense of her Cubs and standing her ground even if she had no where to go. These moms have a very tuff time raising their Cubs. ♥️♥️♥️

    I think 909 is going to be formidable when she reaches full size. She maybe shouldn't have tried the hold the lip with a spring cub by her side. Lesson learned. But watch out next spring when Grazer comes back without her yearlings who will be emancipated and 909's cub will be a yearling. Could be a totally different story for both adult bears. Grazer may not be as defensive when she has no yearlings by her side and 909 will probably stand her ground a lot longer and will also be larger.

    • @pounce50
      @pounce50 Před 3 lety +2

      I think he inexperience as a mom showed when she decided to have a spring cub up on the lip in the first place. Might not have been the best of strategies. But kudos for 909 and how she held her ground,

  • @debrajanine

    909 as a first timer is learning through trial and error, the other day when 909 had her cub up on the lip and 128 challenged her she clearly did not learn from this. It's a very bold move taking her wee one onto the lip, the consequences could have been dire. I guess it's either her inexperience or a risk she's willing to take? 128 has definitely done 909 a favor lets see what 909 does with it!
    the play by play was awesome thanks Mike!

    • @mikefitz6837
      @mikefitz6837 Před 3 lety +2

      Earlier in the summer, 909 avoided the falls area almost completely, probably because she recognized her cub was even smaller and more vulnerable than now. With fewer bears using the falls in mid August compared to much of July, and since her cub has grown significantly since then, perhaps 909 recognizes the risk to her cub is smaller than before. FWIW, though, Grazer and 402 have also brought their spring cubs to the falls. Mother bears are always weighing risk vs. reward and right now 909 seems to think that the risks to her cub at the falls is less than the reward of salmon.

  • @noonesperfect
    @noonesperfect Před 3 lety +1

    Good insight by Mike Fitz on adult male bears that it is not always intentional that adult bears wanted to kill cubs. Many times they don't pay attention, even if it comes in their path they simply growl or bit attack so they moved away from them in heat of moment. So, it is always large male bears wanted to kill cub kinda out of line to say..... they are just wild animals anyway. These breakdown and play by play are good ones, lots of info. for sure. Thx to expert rangers :)

    909 spotted grazer early on. She should have moved towards grazer to give herself and her cub more space to work with.
    When 909 moves away, grazer comes right out to meet her. Grazer’s got the right idea.

    Love Grazer and I think she is a bold female bear in a male dominated bear world. Her Cubs are bold and seem to almost start trouble. Lol. When they are on their own they will be great at fishing the lip but I think they are in for a rude awakening when they realize that being alone means Momma is not there to have your back anymore. Typically, more bears fish at Brooks Falls in July than any other month of the summer. This year, however, more bears fished at the falls in August than I've ever seen before. The sockeye salmon run seems to be shifting later in summer and the bears are finding greater fishing success at the falls now than they have in the past in August.
