Woke Up New [Serizawa Animatic - MP100]

- I think for me and a lot of other people, Serizawa is a very impactful character. I mean, pretty much everyone in Mob Psycho 100 is, but Serizawa stood out for me personally. I loved the growth he went through from his first appearance to the very end of the series. It shows that no matter how many years you may have wasted, it's never too late to change and make something of your life. Your past is there, and it affects you, but it doesn't define who you'll be moving forward. And for the way Serizawa's character taught me and many others that lesson, I wanted to pay homage to that change and growth. And what better way to celebrate his birthday than with an animatic?
This is the first animatic I've done that comes with a special thanks list! I want to give a massive thank you to my buddy Quill, who showed me this song in the first place and was also there to freak out over any sneak peeks I gave them. And I also want to thank all the friends I've made since coming into the mob psycho fandom, and specifically the people in the seasoning city discord for keeping me sane in vc while I worked on this.

SERIZAWAAAAAAAAA
In the series, it really is such a big jump from Serizawa disconnecting from Claw and starting at Spirits & Such; even though he had a lot of growing to do from when he first stepped into the office, the resolve it would have taken to give himself a chance and walk into this huge, terrifying new world he’d found himself in is MONUMENTAL. He didn’t know how he fit anywhere and suddenly had no one to guide him after over a decade of staying in place. This animatic is such a wonderful look at what Seri would have gone through to get to where he is now :’) the scene where he looks up and sees the world through the broken umbrella is so impactful and sums everything up beautifully. Really amazing work!!!

While Serizawa still had a lot of growing to do when he joined Spirits & Such, I would have loved to see the parts in between that and him leaving Claw. It's such a small but monumental step, and I'm so happy my animatic could at least try to portray that. Your comment really means a lot for me to read. Thank you so much!
Serizawa will always be one of the characters I cherish the most in so many shows I've watched. And I'm happy how the fandom love him a lot, and we even celebrated his birthday, and tons of fan arts and fics wer made for him. He's so love, as he should be. 😢
How one season before he's a part of the villain groups(I know we love him from his very first appearance and made us cry as we know him), and now he just fit so right in the S&S with Reigen. He's not an extra, he's half the consultation office and his existence is necessity.
He may have only few scenes, but it shows his growth, and we're just so proud on how he is now.
Seri has been through so much, and first step is always the crucial and scariest part. Leaving his comfort zone and All on his own, as he tremble holding on on his broken umbrella yet at that moment too, that he finally sees the sky, the world.. that it requires for it to be broken...
He was picking to be free... Scared but free.. I love Seri so much 😭😭😭

😭😭😭😭😭 I ADORE THIS SO MUCH!! Him clinging to the broken umbrella in tears with the the lyrics 'what do I do?' And after when he's looking at the sky through the broken unbrella and the tiny moment where his grip tightens on the handle before dropping it was so powerful 😢 this is so freakin' good
God. yes. serizawa and this song. so so good. "what do i do". serizawa being lost without suzuki even though he was being controlled and manipulated. the way things begin to move just slightly as the wind begins to blow and serizawa begins to consider his future.
A quiet, powerful piece. Love your expressions, especially the eyes. Mountain Goats + Serizawa, what a killer combo. I think about Serizawa more and more every day, it seems. Every time I feel like it's too late for me, or that I'm pathetic, or I'll never change, I think about him and how strong I think he is for starting over, even if he's far behind-- and I think about how I should extend that courtesy to myself.
MP100's message is so important and great, but I don't think it'd hit the same without Seri there. It's easy to say a kid can improve himself, but it's a lot harder to get an adult to believe that. The audience asks "when is the point of no return?" and ONE, through Seri, answers "never."

OH LOORRRDD i didnt know what song this was going to be, going into it, and. AGGHHHH. that was beautiful, i love the beat where he drops the umbrella.. also the shot where he’s seeing his old self in the mirror is killer. great work!!

Since Serizawa is my favourite mp100 character, this made me sob… a lot. You’ve captured his character so well in this entire animatic and I love how you interpreted him. The recurring symbolism of his umbrella is really touching, especially how he eventually lets go of it towards the end. This is why I love mp100 so much as it executes the topic of change, especially with serizawa as a whole. I love this so so much, and the song choice is beautiful too. ❤ :,)
The subtle animation when he steps into the sunlight makes me want to eat drywall
i said earlier TODAY "serizawa is a character that mountain goats songs are made for" and now i find this video. effervescent
this is one of my favorite mountain goats songs, the mere concept of pairing it with serizawa's arc had me so so excited to watch. after the last verse, when he pulls out the business card, i think i thought the rest of the video would kind of keep pace with what had been happening up to that point (going kind of slowly and linearly from moment to moment) so the jumping through different moments of him at spirits and such was unexpected and honestly hit really hard. a great decision, possible my favorite part of the video. now excuse me while i watch this 3 more times.
elaborating: the way every "what do i do?" is answered ny the image showing what he does, and "what do i do without you?" being paired with his new family/loved ones.... god this is good

I want to leave a comment since I don't think just liking the video would show how much I love it. My favorite part is Serizawa looking up to the trees through the broken up umbrella. I wonder how you managed to pick up the song, the characters and situations and make it all fit so nice and tidy together. Be proud of yourself, not everyone can make it all work out like that! Also, I don't know if this will make sense to you but your art style looks like either you have practiced a lot or you draw with great care, kinda like... Cute but respectful? Sorry that's a silly way to describe it, but I'm not too good with words haha

Thank you so much for this, I am a manga reader as well as watching the series. Serizawa lit a spark which fueled a fire in me that made me aim to take back my life and aim to be the person I always wanted to be. The series had a huge impact on me, and Serizawa will always be cherised in my heart

This is so beautiful!! I like when the broken umbrella reflects the trees and he realizes that the world is more welcoming than he remembers. The way that he finds a home at spirits and such is so lonely and he’s visibly so much happier and the character growth is amazing :] the song is so perfect for Serizawa and you did his story justice. The pictures at the end and the birthday party made me very happy. Another favorite moment of mine is at 1:12 when Serizawa feels lost and Reigen sees that. 2:30 is also a wonderful moment
