The Kiribati people are amazing dancers! I thought the Cook Islanders are great, and they are also, but the Kiribati dancing is even more interesting to watch.
I am from Kiribati and since I grew up with local dancing being part of our lives, I no longer find it spectacular. I would enjoy watching other Pacific island dances from Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands, Tahiti, etc. I do know, however, that mastering the real Kiribati dance is hard, especially for the girls when dancing the hip moving dance. Parents would never allow their daughters to dance without being ‘tuned’ by an expert dance trainer. In the eyes of the Kiribati people, a proper hip dance is one where a girl would swing her hips (fast or slow) while maintaining the rest of her upper body including the head stationary unless it is part of the dance move. I am a male so no hip movement, but my sisters went through that process.
@@bravotabb3534 I have a question. Often times you will see people go up to the dancers and kind of harass them. I'm sure it is all in fun. Also they seem to spray people with what I assume is perfume and also stuff money into the dancers' clothing. I take this is all tradition but can you explain a bit more about the custom?
Kiribati are the original hip shakers of the Pacific, their intermingling with Tahitians is what brought about Ori Tahiti so Cook Islands and Tahiti took their inspiration from Kiribati women
