  • I'm doing a major revamp of the suspension on my Porsche Cayman S, including components from Elephant Racing, Tarett Engineering, Torque Solution, DSC, and The Godspeed Project. Also some sweet wheels from OZ Racing and new rubber from Hankook.

Cliff my man, you have entered onto a slippery slope. Good luck and enjoy. As my friend in California said, 'what part of Porsche Racing isn't expensive, the Porsche part or the racing part!!! LOL Have fun! I enjoy your site and brings back memories from my days turning wrenches on my 935.

Interesting to go with all those pricey, precise monoball arms and retain the factory dampers and use soft lowering springs. I've gone the other way, I don't think the factory dampers are great (even with the DSC box, which I have), and the spring rates on the factory springs and aftermarket lowering springs is so soft. So I am having Bilstein B16 Damptronic fitted and new factory arms. The problem you're going to have is that those H&R lowering springs are very soft, then there's the factory dampers which aren't the best quality. In the end, unless your budget is unlimited, something have to give. My fitted cost for the B16s plus new arms is about £5,000, so roughly $6,500. My remit is road driving, so a bit different. But I suspect pretty soon you're going to want much firmer springs and better dampers to go with all those lovely, precise control arms.

Your suspension setup is nearly identical to my own. It still drives great on the street but it's amazing what that DSC controller does when you push that sport button.

Well done sir... looking forward to seeing the videos.
I did tackle the GT3 master cylinder last weekend. Took it to the track this Saturday and braking just feels so much better. No more squishiness like before when needing to do threshold braking.
Curious why you went with the 19 inch wheels and not stick with 18 inch? I always hear that 18 inch is the way to go for the Cayman when it comes to tracking the car. I run the OZ Alleggeritas currently, but my new Apex forged series wheels will be shipped in the next week or two. 😉
Keep up the good work. Maybe I'll meet you one day when I hit Georgia to do some track events.

Any particular reason you mixed manufacturers of suspension parts so much? I tried the same for cost savings in the past and ended up regretting it! Had to get rid of my Torque Solution parts because they fit so poorly and flexed. Godspeed is a company I would be very wary of. You might also consider switching to Tarett's motorsport series rear toe arms. They properly adjust for bump steer which can be a major issue, particularly in the rear of this platform when lowered. None of the other designs I've seen do it right. In my opinion and experience gained so far, Tarett by far is the company to look to for quality, well-engineered components. I have heard good things about Elephant, too, though I have yet to try their stuff.
Congrats on all the new parts and I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts once you install and test them!

I'd love to know how close this entire build is to the cost of a GT4. Significant savings?

So far, approximately $60K in total in terms of out-of-pocket. Including the Cayman. Keeping in mind that I've saved significant gobs of money hunting down used parts, doing my own labor, and somewhere between $5-7K of discounts from sponsors.

@@CliffsGarage What would you estimate the cost of your personal time installing parts? You have a great facility to operate, as well as tools and knowledge.
