- www.ziptiedomes.com - This video tells how to use the Geodesic Dome Calculator to determine the height and size of the triangles for any Geodesic Dome. The height, or altitude, of the triangles must be less than the width of the covering material if each triangle is to be covered in a single sheet of material.
Special thanks to Mr. Gavin McArthur of DomeGrown Domes in Masterton, New Zealand, for the pictures of his beautiful domes. You can visit the DomeGrown website at www.domegrown.net.nz/

Fantastic. Thank you for all the hard work. Will pass it forward.
The Bible of geodesic domes....thanks sir for some great videos we all can learn from
Thanks for watching the videos. John Hurt
Amazing tutorial. Does any of you know a way yo calculate only the size of pentagons and hexagons?
Bro...love from National institute of Design, India
Thanks, I appreciate your comment. John Hurt
Wish I had had this calculator when I covered my ziptiedome. But we were covering the whole thing with netting. I didn't see a calculator that would give the calculation for a whole dome. If you have one I would like to use it. We love our dome!!!!!
Thank you for being our customer! When I put netting on my geodesic chicken coop domes, it would overlap, and was never "perfect". So here is whatI found from "experience" and is what I put on our website: 11" Chicken Coop dome: 3' x 100' roll of chicken wire. 13' Chicken coop dome: 3' x 150' roll of chicken wire. 16' Chicken Dome: 4' x 150' roll of chicken wire. The Assembly Manual also tells you the best way to attach the chicken wire, or you can watch this video: www.ziptiedomes.com/video/chickenbuildvideo.htm

Hi sir .we are planning to build a 4 frequency dome .could you please help me in saying the diameter of struts that you had used for 4v dome .
1.5"
Muy buen trabajo felicitaciones pero por favor en español estamos en Chile no entiendo
thanks for your help these are very usefull for me
Thanks!
Hi Sir, I was inspired by your explanation for the geodesic dome. I need small help I want to construct a dome but in oval shape with 120 meter in width and depth of 60 meters with height of 8 meters. which frequency dome should be applied? Hope you can help me with this projects. Happy New Year!
Rhed, The dimensions of 120 length x 60 width x 8 height is not a standard geodesic dome profile, so if I were to recommend a certain dome frequency, that would not be a good answer for you. From my understanding, a spherical structure with these dimensions would be a truncated ellipsoid, which is outside my level of expertise. You might study the Wikipedia article on ellipsoids at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellipsoid to better understand a solution. And there may be better alternatives than an elliptical type of geodesic dome to build this structure. It could be that reinforced hoops or a type of pyramidal structure with a long ridge line would be more efficient. This size structure is a large investment of resources, and so I would recommend that you talk to a qualified architect to see what would be the most economical solution. I hope this helps. Thanks for viewing our video. John Hurt
Es cierto lo que te responden anteriormente acerca de la frecuencia y las medidas... pero también es cierto que podrian unir por una lateral dos cupulas de 60x60m y asi abarcar las medidas que necesitas.

The ziptie domes that I have looked at on you tube have all been pvc pipe. on this video you are using 2x4 lumber to attach your panels. how are you using zip ties to build this dome?
There is an example in this video of domes with 2x4 lumber made by Gavin McArthur in Masterton, NZ, and they are not Zip Tie Domes. So, this dome calculator can be used for all types of domes. Thank you for your comment. John Hurt
Without a doubt your dome calculator is fantastic. I was only interested in using connectors for more permanent structure using to buy for material. So when this video said that it was a zip tie dome. I had to ask. Thank you for your reply.
You can see the original dome and equipment on my channel
Das ist was ich vermute,I thinking of plexi
You make it to damn hard. Just use a sheet metal true length layout. That would be so much simpler to use. Then all you need is the circumference and the height of your geodome.
That would be a great calculator. If you design something like that, let me know. Thanks for your comment. John Hurt
I find it so complicated to line and insulate a geodesic home. OK for a greenhouse but to line, insulate and cover, the original simplicity goes out the window.
Yes, cutting 4' x 8' sheets of plywood into triangles for a geodesic dome home creates a LOT of waste and is complicated. It is better to spray the outside of a geodesic dome home frame with concrete to create a concrete outer shell, and then spray the inside with closed cell foam, then stucco over the foam on the inside. That is an easy way to build a dome without waste. Thank you for your comments. John Hurt
@@ZipTieDomes Before I ran into your reply I was thinking of aircrete over fanfold panels
. Why not use that Owens Corning FOAMULAR 1/4 in. x 4 ft. x 50 ft. R-1 Fanfold Rigid Foam Board Insulation Sheathing cost 50.00, very thin but with the aircrete ~ it would have substance
@@ZipTieDomes What material catches the concrete you are spraying on the outside of the dome, can a bedsheet over the dome work?
Picking a different dome is not a solution for a difficult build. Obviously, this needs research to develop easy shortcuts.
That is correct. But your chances of success for your first dome covering will be much greater with a 3v dome than a 4v, 5v, or 6v dome. Thank you for your comment. John Hurt
There is no word heigth. It is height. Pronounced hite. Just saying.
Where is that spellchecker when you need it?
