Un-inverting FrSky XSR & X4R-SB Telemetry & Sbus Signals

  • Inverting the telemetry signal from a FrSky XSR or X4R-SB receiver is a common thing to do on these newer F4 processor flight controllers, because they only have one hardware inverter which is being used for the Sbus signal. So here is how to get telemetry working. Also, I show you how to invert the Sbus signal just in case you want to be able to use Sbus on any UART of your choosing.

    I had a hard time trying to get my receiver to respond in BF. Tried all kinds of tips none worked. I figured my last option was the inverter way which I read about. Thank you JC for another helpful video. I just finished soldering the way you explained it here and it works great.
    Still can't believe your gone. You really helped alot of us folks in the hobby. RIP

      Currently trying to fit it all in an Armattan Armadillo frame but it's a bit of a tight fit. Might gut it and put it all in my Martian 220.
      I didn't know about needing to invert and thought I messed something up. I saw this and tried it out. Everything works fine except for fitting it all in the tiny space and buttoning it up.

    You are the fucking man. It's people like you that helps me keep faith in humanity. Now that I've got my dys f4 board rocking sbus on the most current firmware I have antigravity. I love that mode. I am building a mrm switch blade on 5s with mb 2207-2580kv on 5051 gemfans today. I will finish it up later and send you a link. Cheers homie!

    Good time!
    The question is: Have you ever encountered a search for uninverted SBus in ia6, ia10,and ia10b receivers?
    I want to make a repeater on QCZEK LRS, I need an uninverted SBus.
    Some receivers have such a signal and you can take it to the built-in inverter.
    There is an option to make an external inverter, but these are unnecessary elements in the repeater.
    Thanks!

    glad you did this one. I was watching your 3 month old omnibus telemetry setup and was wondering if anything had changed, or if there were any other fixes. just picked up an XSR, ill probably just do the telemetry wire. is there still a problem with heat when using an omnibus f4 to power other items? if so I'll just power the rx and video right off my matek pdb.

    Thanks for this, I lifted the freaking sbus/ppm selection pads on my opmnibus f4.... so i literally can't use the onboard inverter. :( Just a warning, those jumper pads are ridiculous. Trying to get them to bridge was a pain in the arse in the first place but then when I was soldering up the xsr cable i accidentally unbridged the jumper. Trying to bridge them the second time both pads lifted.

      If you're having trouble getting solder to cross the gap, you can strip and tin the end of a wire, bend it at the end so it just crosses the gap, solder that across, then clip the excess off.

    Hi. Nice video. I have an XSR. I've read that people are managing to get analog voltage telemetry from the XSR by soldering to a pin with a voltage divider to get pack voltage. I've tried this with a FBVS-01 but there is already a ~10.5v reading coming through on A2 like a phantom voltage reading. When I tap into the pin on the receiver which others have used, it just increases the voltage reading by about 0.8v on A2 with a 2S pack at 1/4 voltage division? Please could you let me know if there is a solution to this? I'd love to get battery voltage telemetry with the XSR and FBVS-01 as it's such a tiny and light weight solution. Many thanks.

    The Latest Betaflight firmwares come with a CLI Parameter called serialrx_inverted, so my question is, if we enable that parameter, do we still need to do this Un-invert hack on the receiver ?

    • @rcrahul3657
      @rcrahul3657 Před 5 lety +1

      Got it clarified already. The Serialrx_inverted parameter is only for SBUS, it has nothing to do with Telemetry signal. So if you are using a SMART port to connect to a TX port, then you have to uninvert the signal using a receiver hack only. Software cannot help for that. Just FYI for anyone needing this information.

    Hi,
    I've watching your vids on the dys f4 flight controller with osd. I've also just purchased 15th June 2017 a x4r sbus reciever. You mentioned about inverting for sbus and telemetry. Do the newer boards still have this problem please?

    • @jester3265
      @jester3265 Před 7 lety

      Well in answer to my question.
      The DYS F4 Pro V4 does not need the sbus being uninverted from the x4r sbus. It reads the normal sbus.
      I hope this helps someone.

  • @TechFenixx
    @TechFenixx Před 7 lety +4

    Hi! Why don't you use the golden spare soldering pads located close to the edge of that thing? They are supposed to be the un-inverted signal?!
    Would be happy about an answere as I'm going to do this quiet soon!
    Cheers

    • @younztitantube
      @younztitantube Před 7 lety

      I personally haven't used the XSR, but take a look at this oscarliang.com/ctt/uploads/2015/10/frsky-x4r-sb-subs-uninverted-hack-naze32.jpg. I would take a guess that the pins are in the same order as on the X4R

    • @younztitantube
      @younztitantube Před 7 lety

      so square pad will be VCC, and count away to get SBUS, like I said, I haven't used an XSR, but I HIGHLY doubt testing that would fry anything
