I love how the emphasis is on how nothing spiritual comes from us but rather comes from God the father through the giving of His Son, Jesus Christ!
    It's all about Him!
    Praise be to God!

Can someone clarify how he comforts us in our affliction? Not just that we have received salvation and hope for the future, but down in the thick of life, in the middle of the battle, in the middle of despair and longing - how does he comfort us? Is it through others? Are we supposed to hopefully have people in our lives who have been comforted so that they can comfort us? So does this mean that the “original comfort” where God is the direct comforter, happened years ago to the Apostles and all subsequent comforting isn’t directly from God but rather sort of a pay it forward type of thing passed on from generation to generation? Some times I just feel like I would like direct comfort from the Comforter Himself.

There is no better comfort than from the Comforter Himself. But from personal experience, there is something that feels different when you feel comfort from God through someone else. My testimony is that i had been filing for unemployment for 9 weeks. Everytime i called them (from 4 different phone numbers), they gave me the runaround. They would tell me that my claim is under investigation and that it would take weeks for them to call me back. I had honestly lost all hope and i wasn't looking for it from God. One day while I'm sitting at the kitchen table, my girlfriend's mom walks in and tells me that she has an unemployment contact number that has had success with getting through to an associate that actually helped them get their benefits within 2 days, regardless of how long their claims were being held. Even though i had no faith that it would work but i called the next day and had to sit in a queue of 64 callers. It took about an hour and a half of waiting before i was connected to an associate. The conversation was long pretty long but at the end of it she said (with confidence) "You should be receiving payment within 2 days." The best part about the situation and the reason why i know God was at work is because the phone number that was given to me was one of the 4 i had already been calling for weeks. The only difference was that my gf's mom told me to wake up at 7 and call. I honestly wouldn't have appreciated it as much if the money had just been deposited randomly. I hope this has helped you. And we can talk personally, if you'd like.

The Holy Spirit is the Comforter. Every true Christian has the Holy Spirit, and therefore they are able to comfort others, based on things like 2 Cor 1:4. Not just through our own affliction, but with God's Word.
God's Word is what brings the most comfort as we learn about who God is, our issue which is sin, salvation in Christ Jesus, and all the promises from God to those who believe in His Son, Jesus
