  • Tim Minchin made this song and video to criticize Cardinal George Pell, and the way that the Catholic Church has treated children in its care. When it was aired on the Channel 10 show "The Project" on Feb 16 2016, there was an amazing response from Steve Price.
    Talk about respect for authority figures !! "This man is the most senior Australian Catholic ! He is a Cardinal..." This serves as a strong reminder of the power the churches had once, indeed the power of life and death. I include here the full conversation and the links below to the originals. Here they are used for commentary and satire.

    The notion that this person cannot be carried up the stairs of a private jet, recline for 16 hours while being waited upon by handsome stewards, and be carried back down the stairs in Australia is an audacious, incredible assertion of entitlement. He should be jailed until he can be extradited in handcuffs in a cargo plane..

    To hear someone take more offense about a song then the abuses, is a clear sign of either being brain washed or an offender himself.
    The song is great, in fact it could have been much ruder, however Minchin showed great restraint and respect for the victims.
    We have the same problem here with priests being accountable, the whole lot of them should be in prison

      racoonsister Minchin has another song where the lyrics are “Fuck the motherfucker” and it’s like over 100 curse words in 3 minutes where he’s swearing and being offensive while also talking about priests raping children and calling out people who do get offended by his songs and ignore the fact that there’s worse things to be offended by

      Cardinal Pell released after being imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. Overwhelming evidence of his innocence then we had an overwhelming result 7 - 0 recognising he is not guilty. Such a wonderful, courageous, good man to return to Australia to face the hostile media and the mob.
      Cardinal Pell died cos he was an elderly man who had complications following an operation ... He admitted with the benefit of hindsight that he made mistakes 30 + years ago when nobody thought Child abuse was prevalent .. Of course after being wrongly convicted he has reached his aim and is in heaven ... Mr Minchin has still not shown any dignity and not apologised!!

    Wow, as the sister of Stephen Woods and two other abused brothers I applaud The Project for supporting victims of abuse in Ballarat. I love the Tim Minchin song for lots of reasons, mainly for its musical genius, but also for its insight into how strongly people feel about the truth that is emerging about the church's cover-up of abuse by its clergy. Good on you Project!!! And Steve Price, go look at your own videos and the venom that comes from your mouth from time to time!

    From Bessel van de Kolk, whom I respect with all my heart and mind....People have two choices in respect to the abuses of
    anyone, and especially by those in power or authority.
    Unless it has happened to you, you have no idea of the
    damage to the spirit. So take your pick. Whose side are YOU going to take? Trauma therapist and survivor.
    "When the traumatic events are of human design, those who bear witness are caught in the conflict between the victim and the perpetrator. It is morally impossible to remain neutral in this conflict. The bystander is forced to take sides. It is very tempting to take the side of the perpetrator. All the perpetrator asks is that the bystander do nothing. He appeals to the universal desire to see, hear and speak no evil. The victim, on the contrary, asks the bystander to share the burden or pain. The victim demands action, engagement, and remembering.
    The more powerful the perpetrator, the greater is his prerogative to name and define reality and the more completely his arguments prevail. In the absence of strong political movements for human rights, the active process of bearing witness inevitably gives way to the active process of forgetting. Repression, dissociation and denial are phenomena of a social as well as individual consciousness."

    • @AsFewFalseThingsAsPossible
      @AsFewFalseThingsAsPossible  Před 8 lety +1

      +Annapurna McQueen "People have two choices ..." how do you know they don't have three or more ? Not all people have the morals you espouse. When you say "The more powerful..." it's important to recognise that the power differential changes over time. What we are seeing here is an attempt to get the Catholic church to redress the power imbalance they have enjoyed for hundreds of years.
