It's a very difficult song to sing (in the original key)! One of the most in my opinion. I'm happy to see her singing it live and don't lipsync it. She's an impressive performer!

I don't know if it's because I'm a huge Katycat but I think her 2 performances were absolutely amazing, of course when she's performing in event like this, not just for Katycats, she's more nervous but she still nailed it 🤩I went to her Vegas residancy on April 15 and you can tell she's more relax in front of her Katycats, she was never out of breath even if she was dancing ,running and singing on moving object , she sounded so good,during greatest love of all, she sang a 16 seconds note. She always sings live and gives her 100% on stage and vocally she improved a lot since her witness era, she deserve so much respect for that. People shouldn't be so mean with her, she's incredible, Katycat forever 🤩🤩🤩
Well, she picked her 2 biggest songs live back to back, and she usually tends to strain herself. Roar is very taxing to sing live, especially when you do the ro o o o oar bits instead of allowing the back up vocalists or backing tracks pick up the slack. For Firework she always pushes herself because it's usually her closing song and sometimes you get carried away. Glad you were appreciative of her performance. The BBC never uploads everyone's full performances because they want everyone to watch from their iPlayer not CZcams

You're right , she was amazing as always,even with her adrenaline 😁 I went to her Vegas residancy on April 15 and her vocals were absolutely incredible , I post all the videos on my channel , she sang all the songs perfectly 🤩🤩🤩 There's so many haters who likes to criticize Katy , but in fact she is an amazing vocalist and she improved a lot since 2017, she's the best 🤩
You should react to the whole presentation, she first sang Roar and she really did it very well and I think that caused tension and a little difficulty when she sang the second song which was firework.

She was very nervous. It was her first major performance since before Witness World Tour. And plus in front of the King. Yea she performed for Biden but there was no live audience. Roar was AMAZING! The way she ended Roar I got CHILLS!

She was 100% nervous and you could tell too it was pretty obvious. She kept flipping to head voice and she really didn’t know where to place her voice. She tried to do some tricks with some belts but it only resulted her in struggling to hit the note. She made some odd decisions in this performance unfortunately! I loved her Roar performance though, thought it was great!!
+ Firework is really difficult to sing. It’s one of the most vocally demanding song from her.
That’s great advice, Georgina! Katy actually has a very good voice, she has proved that time and time again in her concerts and in many other performances. When she is nervous or tired she will typically be less consistent with technique, limiting her range. I think Roar was a better performance. But I just love her energy and even her vocal cries and flips, which are nice!

people are saying she was terrible? i have seen lives of her being terrible...this she smashed. if she was tense it's probably because she was afraid of screwing up or because she was too nervous. but the first time i saw this i was so happy for her cause she did amazing
Also as a singer myself trying to sing Roar is tricky as you have to catch your breath quite quickly as it’s quite fast paced

It might not be your personal interest but I’d love you to expand and explore more pop artists, maybe from the 80s and 90s. You’ve done classic 90s girlbands such as All Saints and Spice Girls but what about Take That, Boyzone, Another Level…and 80s, I’d love to hear your take on Bananarama’s signature unison style of singing. I honestly think you’ll get more of a following too (though it’s not just about that) xxx

Fireworks is not the easiest to sing and she did better with Roar. Overall I actually liked it. 😂

One of your best videos yet! I totally agree as a massive fan of hers. This Firework was good but she’s done much better. Loved how much solid critique you put on her vowels and technique on some notes. Totally honest.
It was interesting and fun to watch. And there are recommended videos. Request BE:FIRST/Smile Again The First Taka version. The piano and string performances are wonderful, and BE:FIRST's astonishing and emotional singing voice should surprise you. I want you to see it.

I loved her performance, especially Roar. It was real and raw and not perfect, but so what. Imperfections give the performance charm. Can you react to a Sinead O'Connor performance, maybe her acoustic one of Danny Boy.
I am not a professional but I find Firework a really difficult song and I think it's unfair to expect her to nail it live every single time. At least she is singing live.

yes i agree. it doesn´t sound me to that she went off .it seemed very controlled. maybe she sounded a bit lower than she wanted but it did look like she did it on purpose.
I don’t think it was an awful performance. To me she looked very nervous, and perhaps her nerves got the better of her. As for her dress, I think she looked like a princess. In my eyes she looked gorgeous.
I think considering what she sang before firework it would be fair to assume she was very fatigued. Still a great performance overall!
Professional singers should be able to sing 2 songs in the same evening lol

This wasn’t her best performance of firework but I don’t blame the lazy vocals. Jet lagged and performing firework her hardest song right after roar which was the best performance out of the two. She gave it her all in roar
She was using a girdle/corset, that's why she can't use her full lungs and her air gets pulled out everytime she tries to catch her breath to sing.

This is laughable. She is singing in a massive stadium in a live setting with what appears to be hundreds of thousands of people with IEM’s, adrenaline and a hype crowd. This is not a bedroom a recording. Katy killed it

I think you are too kind. I did not find this 8 out of 10 , it was all over the place and this song has to be sung with one plan in mind and attack every note that is coming. Maybe for Katy this is 8 out of 10 but in general this is not much better then a 5.
I acknowledge she sings alright technically most of the time here but as a listener, I really don't like how she sounds here - so strained and intense and so different than what's on the studio recording. There's no lightness to her singing. It feels like she's working hard to produce those notes.
She would not get the Golden Ticket. I have no idea why she feels able to critique singers when she is so bad at it herself. She can be really rude too. This is not the only version of her not being able to sing live.

Sorry to say this but mainly the reasons why people are so hard on her because of politics whoever is not on her side they just say not so nice things just to say them like I mean no harm there aren't many singers that are currently popular now that can sing as well as her and I don't see people saying the things they say they just make up excuses

How does Katy Perry get away with awful performances like this and then have the cheek to dole out critiques on American Idol. I have yet to see a live vocal by the woman that is halfway decent. Far too many pop stars get away with this. Somewhere along the line performance took the place of vocal ability. What makes it worse are those who make excuses for bad performances. Truth is she might be a good songwriter and have a talent for the visual concept but she is a below average singer at best.
You are spot on. I have to laugh at all the defense that it is a difficult song. Maybe true but she chose to sing it. And the fixes in the reaction are really the first things you learn in vocal coaching: breath support and vowel placement. In this performance the vowels lead to straining which lead to pitch problems. Something has happened to her voice in the last several years. I hope whatever is going on can be fixed and she finds her healthy voice again.
I really wish we could go back to a time when pop singers could actually perform live with the support of autotune or in this case a backup choir.
Every singer has a bad night Katy has sang well many times actually she just lacks consistency and all of that can be fixed if she makes better decisions while performing and singing

I've never thought Katy is very good vocally when singing live. Her voice isn't strong enough for this song. Sounds very strained. Lady Gaga would nail it.

I'm not a singer, but I am a fashion stylist and I just wonder how everything Katy Perry wears looks so cheap! Fabrics always look low quality and construction is poor. Even the Vivienne Westwood she wore to the coronation ceremony was so bunched up and ill-fitting.

She was nervous, tired, she sang two of her most famous songs one after other etc.. so what?! Other artist face the same obstacles and still manage nail it. I've Never heard Beyoncé, Celine Dion or Sia struggling live like Katy does regularly. She has a cool personality that helped her definitely to become famous but as classically trained singer I can also clearly hear a lot of tightness in her singing (as Giorgina mentioned) as well as a lack of proper head voice control which is a sign of lacking proper singing technique. It's not that she wouldn't have the money to pay for good vocal coaches. I wonder why she isn't improving her vocal abilities she would sound so much better.

I totally agree. She reminds me of Mariah Carey when she first came out she was unable to reproduce the exact notes from her songs in live performances. Another similarity with Mariah and Katy, in this respect, is that they both have some really difficult songs to sing live to unfortunately.
