    I had fruit flies this morning and thought there should be a video on it and this evening I saw Yours. Thanks for the information. Greatly appreciated.

    I tried this after looking at MANY videos! It does trap fruit flies. Later I tried one with water and soap added to balsamic but it wasn't as effective. Thank you!

    I have a shed where I keep trash bins till it's time for pick up. Keeps them out of sight. Fruit flies collect in the shed. I don't want to spray it like I normally do, because baby birds are nesting in the roof of the shed. I looked around on youtube for several trap designs. I made 4 different traps. This one was the least effective, trapping 0%.
    Traps using apple cider vinegar with a little dish soap worked the best. They were hideously full the next morning.
    The best one was the 2 liter plastic bottle. Cut the top off, push the top down inside, fill with apple cider vinegar and dishsoap. It's amazing, quite astonishing how many were in there. Save your balsamic vinegar for cooking ;)

    Good quick delivery of info. Others just squawked and squawked and took too long to talk. Nice job.

    Thanks for sharing. Have not heard of this one but I will try it since it is easy to test. I started getting gnats hanging around my seedling plants.

      The gnats around your seedlings aren't fruit flies, they are called soil gnats. This trap won't work for soil gnats, only for fruit flies. Here's how to control soil gnats... getbusygardening.com/control-soil-gnats/

      Get Busy Gardening! You can use dish soap instead of getting them too drunk to fly. Haha It would still be cheaper than cheap vodka. Lol

  • @lovettetlb

    Does it work better than apple cider vinegar and dish soap? because I've been using that method and it been working so slow!

  • @Yaegermx
    @Yaegermx Před 8 lety

    I have followed all the steps and it's kind of working, the trap has yealded no fruit flys, but I have only seen one since I made it

      Just so that I can just toss it out when I'm done. I don't want dead fruit flies floating around in a dish from my kitchen. :-)

    I thought maybe the smell of the vodka alcohol would repel the fruit flies. BUT if not, do you think rubbing alcohol will work to off the fruit flies, instead of vodka?

    • @Getbusygardening
      @Getbusygardening  Před 6 lety

      I haven't tried it with rubbing alcohol, but it would be worth a shot. Give it a try and see what happens. :-)
