    Amazing guitar... Very catchy.... Andy Taylor was definitely a HUGE part of Duran's success musically.... Wow I love this version!

      I play gtr on this, not Andy, he played on a later version at Air Studios

    They really polished this rough stone ... this sounds like garage band rock and roll... I'm so happy Duran works their songs over and over again until they are great...

    Yes, it is clearly Simon singing, but the guitar work has Andy written all over it. He has always seemed to make the point that he wished to be a rock star. You can tell in many of their live performance, he pushes his guitar work even harder, almost as if he was screaming for attention.
    If memory serves, John was originally supposed to be electric guitar, but Andy wanted it so badly, he was okay with serving Bass instead. And boy was that the right choice. Play that f*ckin' bass, John, PLAY THAT F*CKIN' BASS, JOHN!

      John switched from guitar to bass before Andy even joined. You can find this info. in John's book.

    As much as I like guitars, I like the album version better, they keyboard give more mellancolic sound to this particular song.

    You can tell they used this rhythm structure for "Hold Me". The final version of "A Matter of Feeling" is one of my favourite tracks off Notorious, so I'm glad they went for a slower keyboard driven track. Having said that I wish there was more guitar on the album by Andy. His absence is felt sorely.

    Pra ver como a influência de um único musico pode mudar o rumo de uma música...com Andy , um Rock
    Com Warren uma obra prima

  • @slowbuildings
    @slowbuildings Před 15 lety +1

    It's Andy in the beginning for sure, and Simon later at 3:36. Andy usually sang on their demos before the band gave them to Simon to write lyrics and finish the melodies :)

    I prefer the released version, but thank you so much for making this vid with the unreleased version.
    I thought the editing was done very well *nod*
    How does one get their hands on demo "gems" like this?? I would think in this age of technology, it would be easy... once you find where to look. I just don't know where to look. I even suggested to Katy (their PR person) that they do a compilation album of old unreleased stuff :3 Here's to hoping they will!!
    MeOw!

    @ladymorgaine76 I always wondered about the solos on 'american science' too.. I had andy as the first solo and then warren as the second.. there's not much news on what andy 'did' play on, however warren's website does confirm a few things!

  • @colino72
    @colino72 Před 13 lety

    Wow, still a long way from the eventual song. Only a bit of melody and a few chords. Overall sound is like a cross between the first album and Rio, and miles away from Seven and the Ragged Tiger. Perhaps what album 3 should always have been, and more like some of the sounds on the latest album. The full on rock riff/bridge (Andy, I guess, before he was sacked?), sounds out of place, but the more prominent guitar overall works for me.
