Only a small fraction of this is successfully recycled which means that the vast majority is simply sent to landfill. This has resulted in the need for vast facilities that have the space and technology to store such huge volumes… so, prepare to take a journey around the world as we visit the 15 largest garbage dumps on earth.

Build modern waste burning power plants at these landfills, its gets rid of the garbage and the emissions are far less than open burning, plus you get electricity from all that garbage.

Hi. Nairobi doesn't have 10 million people. More like around 5 million.
Thankfully, all of this, world wide, is going to end in the relatively near future. Until then, I'm clueless what to do---I'm no scientist, and being physically unable to do many things, have no way of taking part in more than I already do.
Of course much of the land fill is one way or another from the Earth and replanted in the Earth.
Unfortunately, though, what comes from the Earth is combined with extremely toxic chemicals that the planet's waters and soils aren't designed to process.
It's one thing when the chemical COMPONENTS are in their various parts, and the planet can easily manage them; it's another entirely when mankind, in its infinite greed, combines things that should never be combined, turning out deadly poisons that nothing, and nobody, has the ability to process safely and correctly.....hence all the PPE when the vile products are being put together.

Where are those micro things that were being developed to "eat" plastic? Come on science
Why don't you do some research, help the planet out, seeing that you're frustrated with science? It's a slow process, you know--requires brains and patience, something that you apparently lack (both).
Follow the money and you can find out why plastic is the problem. I give to you only some key point, you put the picture together. EVA dumping prices, endless mixing. Ok, 2 is more than enough. Solution is insane simple...single plastic type for consumer packaging - Polyethylene. Low, medium or high density polyethylene can cover 100% consumer packaging needs. Yes, we all will lose nice printing quality but that is not a problem. Single type, not mixed consumer packaging opens the gate to recycle all plastics.
