- Saying that the #Nunomo #QUN MK2 mini #groovebox ( shop.nunomo.net/ ) can do a number of things is quite the understatement, so in order to make a video that's not hours long, here's an introduction to the basic workflow.
00:00 intro
01:09 hello
01:34 hardware overview
02:22 create a patch on the internal synth
06:57 create a pattern on the sequencer
12:33 ... and record it to the looper

Some bands / artists I've been following for a long time are (among others) Massive Attack, Pink Floyd, Pet Shop Boys, Archive, A-Ha, Yes, Porcupine Tree, John Mellencamp, Jean-Michel Jarre, Metallica, Peter Gabriel and Perturbator. So my music will kind of sound like those (without ever reaching the greatness of those artists, of course). :-) - Hudba
I’ve owned a Qun mk2 for a little over a year… it’s a deep little machine. Not for the faint of heart. Learning curve is 9000
Oh, absolutely. Making this video was like being back in university, lol. ;-)
@@mr_floydst what even more killer is that the developer adds to it monthly, and even he said he’s not sure what the board is capable of because it constantly surprises him.
I keep dreaming of a life where I could squeeze in a jam on something like this between the horror of reality. I think this is the closest device to make me want to have a "car synth".
The time will come. ;-) At least I hope so...
i feel you, man
This paired with a DirtyWave M8, or Yamaha SeqTrak and iPad is more than enough to make high quality , marketable music or just play around /sketch out quick ideas within a mobile setup before going into a full production studio.
Another to consider is Woovebox. Or OP-Z.
The horror of reality- dude sometimes my nightmares are better! 😅
What happy coincidence, I ordered a qun mk2 that should be arriving tomorrow and I'm super excited.
Congrats! It's a very deep machine, this video covers only the very basics. (I'll do a follow up that shows the cool stuff later this year)
I absolutely love my qun mk2. Ive had it for long enough to be able to do what i want quickly. I programmed my most used midi ccs to a beatstep and it works a treat. So many features packed into a tiny device (even has a scratch/turntable feature). Firmware updates every few days. A "10 out of 10" device.👍
Thanks for watching! I'll do some more videos for sure. This video really only scratches the surface a bit.
The maker is on top of features and updates. Very involved in the discord/community
Indeed! During video shooting, there were two updates.
Love the sound out of this device the dev is constantly updating the device. Learning curve is steep but rewarding love the artist faceplate they have on the website for the top plate feel like I will never outgrow this device in a good way
Thanks for watching! Indeed, while I made this video, there were 2 firmware updates, I think
So glad to see this tutorial. My Qun MK2 has been collecting dust after I barely scratched the surface, but I would love to get back to it.
Thank you very much. I felt a step-by-step guide on the basics was the first thing to do, but I'll need to talk about the synths and sampler in a later video - they're the bees knees here ;-)
And you are right!
Love mine, great to see you do a intro on this awesome device. Cheers!
Thanks for watching!
this is my chilhood dream, a time when I could take my music in my pocket This groovebox is welcomed ❤❤❤❤
Thanks for watching - it's an incredibly feature-packed piece of hardware, and there are weekly updates!
I’ve got one of these and have only scratched the surface of its capabilities. Frequent firmware updates too. Awesome device for its size and price!
Thanks! That was my impression so far as well. I found it very hard to get going, but now I'm starting to see the possibilities...
@@mr_floydst Yeah, it’s a bit fiddly and quirky so it took some patience to learn the interface and get used to the key combos, but I enjoy that sort of thing.
Excellent, I still have my little MU15 from the time, I thought about it recently when I came across it again, took it out and plugged it into my Pyramid, good video!
I stumbled upon this MU15 on 'bay for _very_ little money and I couldn't be happier ;-)
Cool hardware Floyd ✌️ , great video
Thank you very much!
I have one of these. It's very compact and unique. It takes a while to wrap your head around but it has a unique set of capabilities I haven't seen combined into one device before.
The sequencer is very cool as it has polymetric, probability and randomization possibilities. The FM/VA hybrid synth has a Casio CZ-101 kinda feel that goes into pretty gnarly and weird noises rather quickly. There is so much potential in it, but I have too much gear so I haven't hooked it up in a while. I actually have it for sale, but I won't mind much if I have to keep it... It is very cool even if some of it's most unique features don't gel perfectly with my workflow.
It's actually the first new piece of hardware I bought in years before more immediate knob per function boxes took its place
This is one of the boxes that most likely started with a clear and simple idea, and then years went by and features were added. There are some menu options here that are beyond the 8-button concept, so you can only reach them with the knob. Perhaps it's time for a UI revision ;-)
That being said, the depth of this groovebox is seemingly endless and very impressive.
@@mr_floydst I plead guilty to some of those features. When I first got it, I spent a lot of time on the discord server requesting additions that, when they made sense, were tacked on during the next firmware revision.
He is very committed to being responsive to community requests. I can't imagine he's making a fortune off these so it must be a real labour of love
Thank you for putting this out there; I'd seen it some time ago but it had fallen off my radar. It's interesting (to me) that it's been demonstrated by many now that building the core instrument can be done with fairly inexpensive hardware and still achieve same amazing results: this little groove box, the Woovebox, the Microdexed Touch and even the Minidexed, TE PO devices, and more. In the end it all comes down to how you can get something out of it in a repeatable, straightforward way (the UI). There have been some amazing user interface ideas out there - I think Woovebox is an interesting one for example, especially compared to what Roland or Korg has done with 7-segment LED displays :) I'd be curious as to your thoughts on the subject of user interfaces on these devices - perhaps it would be an interesting YT video at some point...
Thanks for your input! Oh yeah, that's a great idea for a video. I think I know a thing or two about UI design and that'd be a fun video to make.
Good work on the menu for it's tiny screen...
It's very well thought out.
I need to grab the latest update, and play around with mine. It's been a while. It really is an incredible little machine, capable of some rather amazing stuff.
Thanks for watching! There are so many updates ;-)
Welcome to the party Floyd. You do have good taste.
Thanks!
Teenage Engineering: You're selling it for HOW MUCH???
More than this, to put it like this.
@@mr_floydst This is probably aimed at people who want real tools and reasonable prices not mid life crisis bros paying 1200 bucks because they took out features and added batteries lol
Korg's Oscilloscope is fun too!
(sucks that they killed Logue compatibility in v2 of the synth kit)
His voice and the way he speaks remembers strong on Tim Curry: (Dr. Frank N. Furter) 😅
So come on, follow me to the lab

@@mr_floydst In just seven days, I can make you a man. Dig it if you can! 🕳️
I'm very curious what hardware this thing is packing. I know there's a ton of MCU's and I2S DAC's that could do the job, but I always appreciate another data point.
I'll take a look and come report back ;)
It's a board used for smart speakers.
It uses a board that is mainly intended to be used in smart speakers. It has wifi and many other cool options.
Between the Qun Mk2 & Woovebox, which one is more intuitive and immediate?
The Woovebox. It's UI concept is followed through every page consequently, so once you know the idea, there's no hidden options.
@@mr_floydst Thank you for the reply.
I was going to buy the Nonomo Qun, but just didn't like the open sided case. I like the granular sound on it though.
I bet someone is selling 3D printed enclosures... ;-)
How does it compare to the woovebox?
Answering that would be quite the essay!
They have an overlap in functionality (both are sequencers, samplers,...) but I'd cautiously break it down like this:
Woovebox is much easier to get into and get results out of.
QUN is deeper and has some very unique audio processing tools.
how nice is the mu15 show more of this device.
It's pretty good and there will be a video on this.
Are you still planning on getting a 3D printer? A case for this thing would be a cool first project.
Thanks! I bought one and I'm doing my babysteps. So far, almost every print fails because getting the base temperature and the filament settings in the slice is really hard, haha
😮😮😮👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😁
What happened to Clemens’ Discord?
I'm knee deep in work and wasn't online a lot recently; I don't know what's up with that, sorry.
Need a synth that sounds like pc engine or like a turbo graft very cool synth sounds from a old gaming console.
Please take a look at Kasser synths ' @BramBramsBerg product line, then kassersynths.com/products/, or the Liven XFM
Interesting device, but it seems to be positioned in a very competitive market of tiny synths/sequencers that don't really produce any extraordinary unheard-of sounds.
My apologies if this video failed to convey this, but the synth in here _can_ do some extraordinary things. It's just that I felt CZcams needs a short and to-the-point tutorial that gets you going making music on this box ;-) I'll upload some synth demos as shorts maybe
@@mr_floydst I'd love to hear some granular, ahh granular stuff since it's fascinating to me to hear real world sounds smashed flat.
@@mr_floydstAnd to be clear, what you've done here is fantastic. It's like a study guide. It organizes the features into a conventional workflow. Thanks
What a hake, what's that?!?😂
I think the video explains it ;-)
@@mr_floydst Well sure but think quick mate.IIny the few first Seconds of it are highly evident understundably .
@@mr_floydst Hello mate. Pardon for Offtopic. Question about R24, why do synthesizers when using this interface - when connecting separate L+R channels at the output on monitors - give disgusting MONO? And how to deal with this? Thank you.
*Sigh*....
Shut up and take my money....
Ryan will be happy to read this, but the intention of this video was to have a relatively straightforward tutorial, not a sales pitch ;-)
@mr_floydst while I understand the intent, I watch way too many tutorials to grasp how the equipment works before I consider buying it. 😅

Uhm, you know you have the choice to ... not watch a video of a person you dislike, and use correct grammar as well, right? ;-)
