Your video was good. You showed a very important thing about drilling a hole in the crack and it was for pockets of fumes or gasoline it self. We had a saying at the last towing company I worked for “ if in doubt don’t do it” these signs were posted on all company vessels at each door. It became engraved on your brain. Using the argon was very important also. In my life time I’ve know of two barge explosions where welding was being done in gas freed environment in these barges. Needless to say welding on tanks is extremely dangerous!

I work with stainless steel tanks that we fill up with flammable/corrosive liquids. The one tank was leaking. They had one of the contractors fix it but there was trapped liquid somewhere that heated up while he welded and sprayed the guy in the face and gave him some burns. Always be careful

Man you're very, very, correct about Welding on anything that's ever had any kind of flammable material! If you don't know what your doing take it to someone who does. That little tank can blow your head off like dynamite as soon as you strike up on it. This man is showing you right. But just know that if you weld on it you are taking your life in your own hands. Just be very careful and know for sure what doing. Thanks for good info C.B. God bless brother.

I don’t think that I’ve ever heard of purging a tank with pure argon. I always hear about doing it with carbon dioxide. Obviously, it works. Is this just based on the cost of the gas? Me, I’ve repaired numerous diesel fuel and hydraulic tanks but never a gas tank.
C02 is much cheaper but it won't work for aluminum....if it's aluminum or stainless you'd want argon or helium ...I'd use C02 if it was steel

I finally got me a welding side job like legit job not just some random people asking me to fix or work on their trailer, manager of the hardware store wants me to fix the legs/ feet on the racks like I’ve seen you fix before on some videos! Whoop. Ima try and attempt to run it stick tho prolly 6011 uphill first. Hi CB, I really enjoy watching your videos and learn a lot from them. I have come across someone that has a 5HP 60 Gallon air compressor they would like to sell that has a small hole in the bottom of the tank. My guess is the hole is likely from rust from the inside from water left in the tank. If I get a camera in the tank and take a look and don't see significant rust do you think it would be safe to repair or should it be avoided at all costs??
Make sure there's not oil in the tank ...some people put oil in their air tanks so that could require purging...if it's steel it can be purged cheap with engine exhaust but welding on any tank can be dangerous
If it rusted through you'd want to weld a patch on so you get away from the rusted area and find good metal to weld
I've fixed leaking air compressors before...usually pretty easy

If you don't already know how to work on a pressure tank, avoid at all costs is good advice.
Google air tank explosions and decide from there. Air is compressible and releases tremendous amounts of energy when the tank zippers open.
If you do it anyway, at least hydro test it with water to standard test pressures for that tank...
