    I just bought one what you need to buy is a perforated aluminum sheet cut. To size so that the wheels don’t get stuck in the gaps also on Amazon they sell something that you place on the hitch itself to stop from rattling. Part is like 9 bucks hope this helps

    One thing to take note of, the carrier should have been bolted to the hitch mount in reverse from what you did. This will let you unload the scooter to the sidewalk side of the vehicle and not the traffic side.

    Although it would lower your ground clearance, it would help with the ramp issue is to have a hitch extender that lowers the carrier.

      That is exactly what I was getting ready to say, I just saw the video myself for the first time on the Harbor Freight app, and I come to here to be able to leave a comment, but yeah, an extender to where it would lower it to the ground a little further about 4 inches that would make a big difference and be able to get it up there on it with just one person, I’ve got one myself and getting ready to purchase a ramp carrier to be able to take my scooter with me when I need to go somewhere by myself and I know myself personally, it would be a little hard for me to get it up there it would give me out real fast But yeah, the extender to where it would lower it even about 4 inches like I said to the ground would help a great deal……

    Thanks for the video. Seeing how such a carrier actually works for loading was notable, as was the assembly and the wobbly mounting. Given the construction of the undercarriage of many scooters and the usual height of hitch receivers, I suspect a loading ramp would have to be 12 or more feet long to avoid manhandling the scooter beyond its own drive-ability. I reckon the Harbor Freight carrier is not unique in that respect. Most carriers I've seen have ramps too short for easy loading of many scooter models.

    Lay a piece of plywood at the bottom of the ramp and back the scooter on. The plywood is so the rear wheels can find traction before the anti-tip wheels hit the ramp. After the scooter is on the ramp and off from plywood place the plywood in the bottom of the carrier for storage, then finish backing the scooter on and tie it down.

  • @etmesi
    @etmesi Před 2 lety +1

    Problem with this carrier, some scooters like a Maxima Pride 3 wheel scooter the casters underneath get caught on the rungs won't climb it. I had to buy rolled aluminum and screw that over the rungs then add grip stick tracks for the tires to climb it. Then I got a 4 wheel scooter and that scooter got high centered going up it, of coarse I have a 4x4 pickup which is a bit higher. Another issue being disabled I could not carry this carrier to the truck so I installed 4 casters to roll it to the truck then added running and brake lights to it people tailgate I figured made it safter from vehicles slamming my scooter.

  • @rborroto
    @rborroto Před 5 lety +3

    Your problem is the steep angle of the ramp, and the sharp corner it creates where the ramp meets the carrier. Install a hitch mount lowering adapter that brings the hitch square closer to the ground… maybe 6 inches (but not too low that the carrier would hit the ground while traveling). You can minimize the carrier’s wobble and play by also installing a hitch receiver clamp to the ramp.

  • @integgrity
    @integgrity Před 4 lety +2

    All you had to do was cut a sheet of plywood to fit inside the carrier bottom, that way the wheels aren't getting caught in the carrier squares. Put plywood on ramp also.

    I see I'm late to the party, but I'm shopping for one these now. I think the biggest problem with the ramp is where you're parked the ramp is sitting on ground lower then the where the truck tire is sitting. On a level parking lot it would less steep, also you could put a 4x4 block under the end of the ramp. The scooter should be able to climb over the block if you back it on and then the ramp angle would be pretty shallow so it would roll right up without issues. If you see my reply---how well has it held up?

    I got the exact carrier for my vehicle and I run into that same problem. I'm a big guy muscle wise and everything but I can't get the scooter in or off the carrier by myself especially I can't get it on it the biggest problem is the ramp is not long enough so it's too steep of a grade and it the back wheels come off the ground and spin there's a couple small wheels on the front back of mine that get caught between the slats. It's better than nothing but it's seriously flawed when it comes to being able to get the scooter onto the carrier because of the ramp. Not recommended for someone who doesn't have others to go along with them to put their scooter on and off for them. You won't be doing it alone I guarantee

      There are a couple of issues they don't discuss. First, the hitch on a pick up truck sits higher than on a smaller vehicle. My Jeep compass is much lower and the height of the carrier is not as high as that truck they are using. Second. The ramp should go on the passenger side as its meant to be accessed/supported by the curb. The curb will also decrease decrease the travel height of the carrier by a few inches (depending on the curb).

    Geez... Every time I look at handicap lifts and carriers, it is a tall man or able man and or able woman. I am short, weakling and talking care of parent who is just as disabled as I.

    Could you add a bicycle rack onto the back of this rack? It looks like the receiver tubing runs all the way through to the back but doesn’t have a hole for pine.
    Could you just add the hole and throw in a bicycle hitch carrier?

    We just bought this today, total waste of money. Will be returning. Too hard to load scooter, the wheels keep spinning, doesn’t go up. You need a couple strong people to almost lift it on to the carrier. Easier to take the scooter apart and load it in your car.

  • @georgeiannetta7549
    @georgeiannetta7549 Před rokem

    Definitely will not be buying seeing you have to but your balls getting the scooter on. Unless you put it together wrong.

      Add a drop down on the hitch if it’s to high. Simple fix makes it way easier to load scooter.
