In-depth review: TomToc Minimalist EDC Sling bag

I love all things everyday carry; the EDC category of items is so interesting to me because it signifies the things we actually use day in day out. In my last video, I shared by Everyday Carry 2021 kit, and in it, I talked about how the my every day carry sling, the Peak Design 3L sling, though I love, is just too bulky for daily use as it's designed to protect camera gear on the go; overkill for my notebook storage on the go.
So after chancing on the TomToc urban Minimalist EDC Sling bag, I jumped on it because it was less than half the price of my previous front-runner, the Bellroy Sling Mini. And in this video, I review the TomToc EDC Sling bag in great detail, and hopefully, help you narrow down your buying decision if you're also in search for a new durable, clean-looking best EDC sling for 2021 for you and your needs.

This one is awesome. I've had fanny packs i've carried across my chest for years now and it really started to become cumbersome and annoying in the last year or so. Fanny packs were never meant to be worn as cross body bags, the straps just do not align properly across your chest and with so many of them, the strap would loosen after adjusting it. But, the trend started with fannys! So i'm glad i found this one! Great to see companies making slings that look like fanny packs but are meant to be worn like a traditional messenger or sling!
I just got one of these yesterday ... so far it's really slim and doesn't slide around on my back which is a plus as well. Since it's so slim, i have a bigger bag i use when I need to carry more and so far, this fits right inside the other bag without any issue. Looks like a winner!
Great video. I need a new pouch/bag in this size range to carry medical supplies but the review here is so detailed and comprehensive that it gave me all the information I needed to make this my purchase. Copped mine for a euro trip and it fit everything I need to carry. To add I use the side anchors with a carabiner to clip on a water bottle holder. 🤙🏼
I just received and started carrying the Xpac version of this bag and I love love love it! I am a full-bodied Wisconsin Badger/ Green Bay Packer fan and I really appreciate how long the strap is! Also, they've changed the logo from what was on the original bags it's more discreet in that it's not this big full lettered word and more of a design logo. The buckle looks more refined, while it's not the magnet seated clasp and it's still plastic it doesn't have the same squared-off institutional clip mentioned in your review. The inside being blaze orange contrasts my almost exclusively black carry items.
Super late comment, but I stumbled upon this video after wanting to learn about this bag and having just got this bag for Christmas. I have been rocking the Tomtoc Premium Urban 26L Backpack for a few months now, and was so impressed that I then wanted the sling bag as well when I go out and dont want/need a full size bag. The materials, design, and utility is incredible impressive at a price point so much lower than the other premium brands, yet I would say in almost all respects, Tomtoc can keep up, if not top, some of their expensive competitors!!!

I finally someone like me. I carry my things in small bags but im always searching for one that i can put my stuffs in comfortably. Now i know the term EDC and i too carry quirky items like a small toy dinosaur like a charm and always a pen or two one fountain, one pilot gel. I used to carry a small travel note book but now i write everything on phone. Thank u for sharing these reviews ! Very useful n i feel my needs for bag knowledge has been met
I just bought this bag and I love it. It seems very durable and holds everything I carry on a daily basis. It's size is very deceiving. And it's price point is about half of the major players. So hopefully it holds up well. I have confidence in it. Great video

I love how you carry a TN too. It’s a good reference for me.
It's now available in 11" and 14" sizes... Also other colors as well for the regular(small) size... AOTM I own the AER Day Sling 2, was considering the TomToc EDC sling at first, but It doesn't seem fit to my color favor. Since they now release new color ways, I'll wait till they venture to XPAC material, which way durable than the Corduras...
Tomtoc must've watched your video, because this sling now comes in navy (+ white), grey AND olive green! Just got myself a grey one and really liking it so far, great review btw!
Bought this one this week, happy with the size - not too bulky but very easy to get things in and out.
I think they’ve made an update though, there is no longer any excess strap to flap around. So the look of the strap is much cleaner (although still a big plastic buckle).

I almost went for this but then I found the Tomtoc Urban Commute which for me has a better pockets layout since it has two compartments at the bag's full height, instead of a front pocket at just 2/3 of the bag's height. I love that there's many small EDC options though!

Most of that stuff is in pockets. Bag is for the notebook and pens. 👍🏻. 5:08

A similar pack is the Cotopaxi Coso 2L hip pack. The main advantage is the semi-beaver tail at the front (if you remove or cut the sides of the open compartment). Another option perhaps.

@@LiquidTurbo I only started shopping on Temu a few weeks ago, but I have already learned that before I buy anything from Amazon (or another retailer), I should first check Temu to see whether they have the same item for a much lower price. (Or a cheaper knockoff that's good enough for me.)

Brother, to be honest I just purchased this bag because of this specific videos. It took me some time to save money cuz it little bit pricey here.
My thoughts of this sling is truly awesome. It really help me organize my stuff.
You see my line of work really need a quick grab of my stuff. A backpack would solve the problem but it doesn't offer quick access. A normal sling messenger bag is tend to stay on the side. But Tomtoc sling stay in the back which is really good for working in small environments.

Maurice you should take a look at the Wandrd D1 fanny... The push buckle is a deal breaker for me, i like the magnetic fidlock slide better on slings. I see some bellroys have been incorporating the slide fidlock as well..

It's hard to find a really nice quality and comfy to use EDC Sling Bag nowdays. Most of the big brands came with a very high prices on my opinion. After do an hour of searching on the internet, i found this TomToc Sling Bag on my local online shopping platform. Design looks good and got a very pleasant feedback from every users. The prices is their killing factor to be honest. But i still need to watch some reviews on CZcams and ur videos just convince me to get it straight away. There's several others videos about this particular sling bag but it's all rubbish. Urs currently got the best detail and information i needed. If u can show us how do it looks when wearing the bag and how comfy it is that would be even better. However, Thank you very much for the videos and it's already helps me a lot. PLEASE HELP! I was looking at this bag today and I noticed you said it was 6 inches wide/Tall, my chrome book it 10 inches in length but 6.5 inches in width? Do you think I will still be able to fit my chromebook
Unfortunately, I don’t think it will - I just measured again, and the central height is tall enough but the slight tapered sides just won’t accommodate your chrome book, especially since the thickness of the chromebook itself will reduce some of the wall height 😔

Why does this sling bag vs their 7l sling is different material. I'm worried the 7l won't be as durable and strong since this one is Cordura and the other 7liter sling is recycled?
The deal breaker for me is the interior being made of black material, would make finding things unnecessarily difficult
