Damn, I admire and jealous at the same time of your skills and knowledge in low-level computing, man.
I started app development because of money, and I hated it every working day.
However, I've started going back to low-level stuff and tinkering with C, AVR Libc and AVR microcontrollers.
There's a certain satisfaction when you're able to integrate hardware and software.
I hope I'll be as good as you in the future. 🍺
I think most people will be wanting to run Linux through Rebug these days. It would be a dream to see modern Linux booting while on the latest GameOS. Hopefully the Rebug team can fix booting OtherOS on latest firmware for DECR so the old MFW wouldn’t be needed. I have a DECR-1000 that I would love to run Linux on some day.
Anyway, very interesting videos. Appreciate the PS3 work as always.
Im actually really curious: did u build a new petitboot image for otheros++ because the one that everyone uses (geoff levands old stuff for kernels 2.6.xx to 3.5x) has the issue with kexec which doesnt allow you to boot newer kernels, also i completly finished watching this vod and there are some spe toolchains for programs running on the spe cores, might want to look into that
I'm working on a module to use the PS3 Memory Card Adapter. I stuck at the point reverse engineering the data protocol used over usb to read and write. Do you think it is possible to extract the drivers for the usb adapter from the system that PS3 ist running?
you mean extract form gameos? you surely can reverse it form it, but not extract and just run in linux, ... Do you have any docs on your progress or details?
Im currently trying to cross compile linux3.4.12 kernel for the ps3, do you know what toolchains i could use? already tried crosstool-ng and that completly failed, sadly i am not competent enough to fix the errors i got myself. Asking here cuz its the newest vid you made about ps3 and because you are probably the guy with the most experience regarding ppc64 CELL development.
Just use t2, any why not the latest kernel ?
@@MoreReneRebe not using t2 cuz i want to try some old stuff from the barcelona supercomputer centre which are debian only. And wasnt there some issues with not being able to boot kernels above 4.xx?
Ah, here it is:"Be aware that there was a kernel ABI breakage effecting kexec and
that the ps3-petitboot-09.11.30 I released cannot boot kernels newer
than linux-v3.15."
So i will also have to compile petitboot when compiling newer kernels
I compiled the latest kernel and the latest petitboot but after installing the new petitboot my console doesnt boot anymore, prob.bricked. Luckily i made a backup of the nor and will be able to recover my system with a hardware flasher
You should be able to just reinstall the firmware the normal or recovery way
Linux ps3 ? Hard 😅
