- The Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station, known as CROWS, was once a mere aspiration of the military. However, modern technology has now caught up with the warfighters’ craziest dreams.
This revolutionary series of weapon stations is transforming the way soldiers engage with targets. The US military has implemented CROWS on their armored vehicles and ships, providing soldiers with an unprecedented level of protection and accuracy. CROWS is a versatile weapon system that provides both defensive and offensive capabilities, making it an indispensable tool.
Designed to be mounted on various vehicle platforms, the system is equipped to handle a range of armaments, including the Mk 19 grenade launcher, the 12.7-millimeter M2 .50 caliber machine gun, the 7.62-millimeter M240B machine gun, and the 5.56-millimeter M249 Squad Automatic Weapon.
Now more than ever, the troops on the frontline are ready to fight against invisible foes… - Věda a technologie
CROWS is developed by Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace Norway and sold to 16 countries.
Thank-you Wikipedia.
I'm a Crows. And no I'm not I was developed someone in the Caribbean Island so WRONG
Looks like CROWS II is made by Kongsberg but the original was made by the American company Recon Optical
Kongsberg makes some incredible stuff
Jeg elsker norge ❤
I was the part of the first team that recieved the CROWS system in Iraq in 2005. They installed the system in 5 days onto our humvee at LSA Anaconda. 2 weeks on the system! It changed my life!
yeah sure you were go back to playing video games kid lol
Changed it? Probably saved it as well! Thank you for your service!
Crows was introduced in 2003 so no you weren't
Had some random Iraqi Kid come up to our patrol. he had a sealed box with NSN Numbers visible.... It was the Control Strick/Throttle to a CROWS system lol
@@michaelwilliams3104 Wasn't fully field with PEO Soldier till late 05/06
The Protector RWS is a remote controlled weapon station. The manufacturer is the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense Systems, which has taken over the product and further developed it substantially from the original developer, which was another Norwegian company, named Vinghøg. Protector has been in production since December 2002.
The system has been sold to 29 countries, over 23,000 have been produced and Protector RWS is the market leader for this type of remote-controlled weapon station. Approximately 18,000 of the Protector RWS have gone to the USA, the majority of these through the CROWS II program which started in 2007. The majority of these are produced in the subsidiary Kongsberg Protech Systems USA, located east of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania.
I WAS a CROWS gunner during my deployment in 05-06. That piece of shit broke down CONSTANTLY! Our leadership insisted we go on mission regardless because the technology was deemed 'intimidating' despite being deadlined! When it worked, it was impressive, but malfunctions required the gunner to repair the malfunction manually. It looks like some major improvements have been made, but I truly hope that current gunners have a vastly superior system to what I had in 2005.
do you know if they worked on it to make it more reliable?
@charlesrichardson8635 The only place that installed and serviced them was in Ballad (Anaconda), and we were in Rhamadi. It took about a month to make arrangements for one of the techs to fly to BIAP and make the necessary repairs. It was never upgraded in the 6 months I operated it. At the time, it was just being fielded, and they wanted data on their efficacy on 1114s. I've been out since 2010, so I don't know what improvements they've made since then.
@@surq0784 Thanks always good to hear from someone who knows!
Wow!
We have em in my plt (Think they were new in 2018) and I've only experienced issues once. (4 systems, m2 mounted)
7:29 I like how they're wearing Pizza Hut tablecloths as camouflage.
Modern tech for ya :)
Somebody PLEASE mount the CROWS system to the tried-and-true Quad-Mount .50 BMG turret!! 😁
These were fun to play with in my BFBC2 days.
Dewalt put out a lot of gunk gear in the late 90s as everyone was putting out every type tool as a battery. A lot of junk just to have something in every slot. It killed me sticking with a single brand. Now with battery adapters I didn't have to get a new multi tool because my Maktia batteries were only being used for it. Now I can use it with other brands batteries.
Yet another superb video! Love your content 👏
"Able to track vehicles at up to 25 mph" -- this must be at a certain distance (as it is easier to track at say a mile away vs 50 feet away)
Excellent, Thank you,
Why didn't they give these to the front line units back in 2004? could have used them on overwatch missions or route clearence. All we had was sandbags on cargo trucks with regular mounts. Then we finally got some better humvees with full plated turrets but never even seen a CROWS system that I remember. Either way, I hope they adapt these for any drone use as well. I think that will be very important in future warfare as things evolve.
We had them in 09. But they didn't get fielded until 2005 in the US military.
Yes this is exactly the stupidity that our military has. Troops must be protected, and a mobile system should be required.
Much obliged for a new video.
Excellent.👍
Asianometry [sic]
Reminds me of the UA 571-C Remote Sentry Weapon System from Aliens...
We had these at my unit on the JLTV and MATVs, and they’re rarely functioning and require constant maintenance.
Very cool tech
Great Video. 👍 🇺🇸
Yeah looks good
Amazing
This would have saved hundreds of American lives if this system was available for the early Middle East conflicts. I saw ErDOGan using these against the Kurds near the Syrian Border but no sign of them in the US forces.
Damn love seeing our military have these!!!
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
This setup would still be defeated, I believe by anything as easy as oil paint and glue in a balloon. Dropped by a UAV but I can't guarantee how close they could get....lol
😂😂😂😂 love how you make a claim and in the same sentence realize just how stupid that claim was 😂😂😂😂. Why not save yourself the embarrassment and just not post 🤷♂️. What? You just couldn’t go without saying something 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Love these type of shows... I miss the Military channel I use to get. They changed it to American History Channel and made it a channel I no longer get!😢 buttheads! Thanks alot Charter Spectrum!🤬
Warfighters: They have the craziest dreams...
How would the crew deal with jams? I've seen tons of videos of operators cycling the weapon to clear jams mid firefight
If it's a simple malfunction, you can do a mechanical cycle through the operating system. If the malfunction is more complex, someone has to pop the hatch and clear the malfunction.
That's one helluva nice system. I'm sure the turret gunners appreciated their new place =inside= the vehicles. Did they ever get the reliability problem fixed, Surq0784?
Holy Cow it has the same Weapons Flatform I'm using in the Video games (War games) Tank related too 🤣🤣🤣❤❤❤❤
How the fvk you think the video game company got the idea 🤷♂️🙄
All they need is a sound weapon such as you know who had that would buckle 3 inches of armor at kilometers away?
Your videos kick ass bro, keep up the good work!
1 RPG black paint gun will blind it. Thats how they stopped the T800 terminators. And HK tanks.
Super Video Respekt 👍
As always another great show. I wish they would upgrade this system to a 3 or 5 gun gatling system to help the troops fight off incoming mortar, rocket or artillery. 50 cal AP rounds would do the trick, and be mobile, vs the fixed phalanx systems used on base areas.
Phalanx mounts are more robust and far heavier than the more mobile CROWS system and ships can more conveniently carry ammo for the higher/est caliber and much higher rate of fire of the Phalanx. Either can better track rockets/missiles more easily than artillery or mortar rounds due to a larger target and a longer time of flight of each as incoming ordnance. Great idea though, perhaps not efficient on a smaller scale. Cheers.
EOS defense company out of the US makes the RWS system with the 30mm chain gun, mini gun, javeline and a few other weapons.
For incoming motars, artillery and RPGs as well this system could work as good as an iron fist of Israel. All it needs is smart grenade launchers possibly 30mm with an automatic thread detection system and target accusations and firing mechanism.
@@markmilan57 That is good to hear, but does US military have any? In this day and age troops should have every protection possible.
@@philchristmas4071 Does US military have any for the troops, not just base areas?? In this day and age no reason not to have them.
SOG legend Mad Dog Shriver in Vietnam when his team got surrounded...hed say "i got them right where i want them - surrounded from the inside....
It's just the 1st iteration.
Seems like a good idea on paper till ya have to clear the jamomatic attached to the hi-tech system thereby exposing yourself to enemy fire to clear the malfunction...ma duce ancient 50 cal attached to a modern system..😂 the army never fails to take something modern and throw a janky wrench into it .
Nothing wrong with the m2
A criticism - half of this has nothing at all to do with the CROWS RWS - it's a discussion of tactics and how to utilise surrounded forces, apropos of precisely nothing!
No man is an island, but apparently CROWS can be?
That's as far as I can reach with this.
Does the new Ajax have this system attached ? I am pretty sure it has some iteration of this system and would be a significant addition providing it lives up to its claims.
Welcome skynet
The future weapons will be giant paintball guns to blind the other sides optics ;)
Laser pointers? Couldn't be that easy?
I think the Lancet has a claim to this title
When they get to the standard of the sentry guns from 'Aliens'- *then* I'll be impressed....

LOVED THESE ON IRAQ
Invisible foes? I don't see what invisibility has ANYTHING with this
He means you need IR and/or night vision to see the bad guys.
*UA 571-C has entered the chat.*
What is the name of that song 3:29 ?
Please and thank you ❤
Um, CROWS has been around for a long time
30mm smart grenade launcher should fit best in this system I guess. On second thought it could works like an air defense system as well. A couple of stinger missiles on either sides and a javeling as well.
30mm "Smart Grenade Launcher"?? 30mm?
neat
A great system until a gun jams ! Oh but that never happens !!
Nothing a couple billion in r&d couldnt fix in the next 10-15 years maybe lol 😆
1st of all Jam is something you put on a sandwich. 2nd. If you knew anything about weapons maintenance you wouldn’t have a stoppage 🙄
You can clear most malfunctions with this system
Serbian Special Soldžers Strong WOLD 🇷🇸👍
You're clearly never seen CIWS in action, nor have you heard of the centralized fire control system used on the B-29 Superfortress.
Both are FAR MORE innovative than a gun on top of a tank.... which the M1A2 SEP also had first.
What happens those cameras if they get dazzled by lasers?
Sounds like all they did was install an air compressor to inject air into the fuel injection system. It actually doesn't take to much to adjust for high altitude combat but they may need an tank of compressed air if they want to do rapid acceleration which could be charged during normal running. India needs to either develop something like that or vastly expand its artillery in the region or both. It would be interesting to see how much extra range thin air bestows.
Very interesting video.
CROWS doesn't "see" anything; it makes it possible for Soldiers to see his potential target.
just wait until they attach this system to a big ass copter-drone??
Anyone else get Aliens sentry turret vibes??
We used these when I was in the colonial marines and found them to be very effective. We heard of one squad that lost all but one of its members on LV-426 despite using them, but that was no fault of the cannons. Most of the squad was wiped out prior to deploying the weapons. Once set up they worked very well, but the xenomorphs who attacked got past the gun emplacements simply by overwhelming them with sheer numbers.
Send them to Ukraine
How well does this work against low-flying drone?
elevation angle is too low
The problem is that a strong point (without constant vehicle motion) is a sitting duck for anti-armor weapons like NLAW and Javelin.
Hook this tech up to AI and prepare to worship our new machine overlords.
At the very beginning while showing the M240B narrator says "M2 12.7mm"..... Then never even states 7.62×51mm as a capability. Improve your info!
They need to focus on anti drone weapons, for ground forces .
Mudder flubber what you think this is 🤷♂️🤭😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Looks the same as the ones we had in 05. 🤡
@@ozzy7763 well if you knew how to fvkng use’ em in 05 maybe there wouldn’t be so many drones flying around 🤡
Is this the system that used ruggedized playstation controllers?

I love the quality and thoroughness of your your videos, but the clickbait titles are getting out of hand. This title has nothing to do with the actual content. You guys don't need to do that and it only makes your product look less professional.
Did the Taliban get upgraded with these after the retreat of Brandon?
that would be very useful in Ukraine , even 1% would help save lives.
Gravy Seals with AR15s are going to take on this LOL.

If you want to know how Military "leaders" build new weapons systems and tactics, watch "The Pentagon Wars". Or read the book, if you're one of the few people left who can actually read.
Is the narrator hysterical? Can he talk in a normal voice? Once you heard him elsewhere it sounds manipulative, He's trying to jerk your chain, which ruins the video.
