  • I set out to figure out the best possible way to restring Magic Attic Club dolls. Originally I wanted to try to preserve the original style of stringing, but it was so difficult, and I had concerns about all of these dolls being strung differently from the factory. Ultimately I decided to use Prilly Charmin's method of restringing Magic Attic dolls, with some tweaks of my own. I will be uploading more soon, including a video of all my FAILED attempts, and restringing tutorials for dolls that only need select limbs restrung.
    To restring a Magic Attic Club doll, you will need:
    * 4mm round elastic cord
    * 4 10-32 wing nuts
    * Scissors
    * Hemostats
    * A heating pad (for softening the limbs and torso)
    * A hair dryer (for softening the head without loosening the wig or damaging the hair)
    * A LOT of patience and time
    I will also be writing up detailed instructions on my blog at www.againstdollodds.com!

    Cool I've never restrung any dolls before but I enjoy seeing all the kinds of Dolls being fixed in different ways of restringing.

    Are you still planning on posting a video on how to restring from the head and one leg? I am incredibly interested in watching, as I am working on fixing a Heather whose leg came off!

      Still planning on it! And I have some other ideas I want to try, and will video as well. I'll see if I can get to it next week.

    Even though I do not have any MAC dolls this was still interesting to watch for me (you never know). I had to buy string for the AG dolls and geez it wasn't easy to find. Finally got some from the UK (free shipping) only after the someone told me to go to Dollspart and sure enough they have it, so next time I will buy it from them.

      You can find 4mm round elastic on Amazon! That is where I've gotten all of mine.

    Good job! Hope my Megan never needs this! I wonder if Tonner's Betsy McCall dolls look the same ( all the junk inside)-they used to have a doll hospital you could send them to because they fell apart very easily.

      Oh my, now I want to try restringing a Tonner Betsy McCall! Let me know if you ever see one for sale that needs to be restrung. I prefer experimenting on my own dolls rather than customers'.

    Great video. I have two magic attic dolls that I need to restring and this lesson really helped. Can you tell me where you get the stringing cord from? Thank you so much.

      I used the same stuff I use to restring AG. I've had to find a new supplier because the 4mm cord I used to buy is no longer available, and I swear all the "4mm" I have tried since has been smaller diameter and not as strong. Most recently I got some 3/16" bungee shock cord on Amazon, which looks the right size, but I haven't tried it out yet.

    This is great. I have one of these I have to do and didn't know how. Do you happen to know how to restring dolls like the Cititoy My Life As dolls and Journey girls that have the breastplate and aren't soft bodied on top or fully hard plastic? Would love to know. Thanks!

      I have wondered this too. I probably need to get one and try it. This is how I start new doll collections, ha!
