In this mid-eighties production, film maker Jorge Zanada features GERARDO PORTALEA, an icon on the dance floors of Villa Urquiza. Bear in mind that this is a movie.
@jumaggioli By "ahead" he means leading, before her foot moves instead of "accompanying" which means slightly "behind" or trailing the motion of her foot.
He explains his concept of being elegant by describing how his foot accompanies the woman's foot. He then says, "today,' meaning the "after 50's" way of dancing, the man's foot gets ahead of the woman's so he can mark 'figures,' patterns that in the old day they used to call "verdura" like cabbage because of their turns and ostentation. My take is that he avoided doing what we call today "steps" and rather he liked to walk accompanying the woman's foot with elegance and cadence.
i am not sure about what he was talking abour. The camera was not showing his steps.Did he spoke abour walking "outside" of woman's directional movement? Is that the "after 50's" different element?
Planet, "ahead" you mean "outside"? before he liked to walk inside or, in the same line of woman's walk? and now (after 50's) they use to walk "ahead" to make figures....? I just want to understand what he said, because the cam do not film the foot.. thanks!!
TANGO BAILE NUESTRO is available on line.
