VOGEL'S APPROXIMATION METHOD

  • This video introduces a Balanced-Type of Transportation Problem which is considered as a special case of Linear Programming. Vogel's Approximation Method (VAM) is one of the methods used in establishing the initial basic feasible solution. Included in this video is the discussion of the definition of the Vogel's Approximation Method as well as the easy steps in solving it.

    cooooollll from our prof's example, he used another table after getting the first batch of row and column differences, so it's kinda inconvenient to make another table for the next one. I like your example and how you explained it, it doesn't make me sleepy and keeps me interested!!! Thanks again, saved mah bum ahahahaha

    If we can't choose the maximum number from row difference/column difference, because we have two same numbers, is it indifferent in this case which of the two we choose?

      In regards to your question, what will happen if you have two or more than two maximum values both in the row amd column difference (which is called the penalty cost)? Well, if this happens, if there is a tie in the values of penalties then you need to select the cell where maximum allocation can be possible.

    Initially, you were selecting the mist cost from row then you selected from the column...how do we know when to use the cost from either row or column?

      When the row difference is greater u select cost from row, Similarly when column difference is greater u select cost from column.

      If there is a tie in the selection, then we have to select the row or column which contains minimum cost.
      In case there is a tie in minimum cost too, then we need to select the cell in which maximum allocation can be done.
