  • Michele was working from home as a beautician; she had suffered with mental health issues off and on while she was navigating the highs and lows of life since she was about 12 years old.
Michele was married and had already established that she was not going to become a mum herself, but then out of the blue, practically overnight, she did become a mum to her 9 year old step son.
Michele had to give up her beauty business that she was operating from the spare room so that her son would have somewhere to sleep.
As you can imagine this caused a major shift to day to day life and it was a tempestuous time.
As her step son was adjusting and suffering with his own mental health issues Micheles depression and anxiety kicked back in. To make matters worse her beloved grandfather passed away. Feeling like she simply couldn’t cope Michele headed to the doctor to ask for some help. The doctor said that all he could do was offer her a pill to numb her during the funeral and that was it.
Incensed Michele headed home and decided to hoover up as much self help material as she could find. It was while listening to a Les Brown piece that she heard him say not to let your hopes and dreams die in the graveyard with you. This got Michele thinking on a whole new level and because she was going from strength to strength with every piece of personal development material she devoured she then decided to up her game and embark on some further training, a life coaching course. She knew she was good at helping others and she knew that by helping others she would also help herself get over her own issues.
Just as her coaching business was taking off her step son began to have difficulties at school and a period of home schooling was necessary. This was a tough six months for Michele but when she was finally able to send him back to school they were impressed by how much he had come on. A testament to her teaching and parenting skills.
Michele found herself wondering which direction to go next, it was at this time she decided to start her blog ‘She steps up.’ Michele now interviews women who are achieving great things, the idea being to create a space where other women can go and find inspiring stories of women who have been through similar to then and be encouraged and enthused by what they see. She has also gone back into coaching but with more of a spiritual angle on what she does now, drilling down and refining her purpose as she goes along.
