It's like punks vs hippies. This kid could have fit in the punk scene better if he was born later. They're both rock fans but they have different attitudes and hippies need a reality check sometimes. She could also call him smart instead of sweet. Acid trips make you go off. I'm sure I'm being irrelevant where the whole scenes supposed to be touching.
Kate Hudson and her role as Penny Lane were a perfect match. Unfortunately, Kate Hudson never had been able to reproduce such a depth in her other roles.
He sees right through the whole 'Penny Lane' persona and sees the real sad little girl inside who just wants love, and that angers her because she doesn't want to be the scared and lonely Lady Goodman (her real name), she wants to be the confident and breezy Penny. He's pulled back the curtain for a second and it terrifies her.
I'd also had he calls out the fact they live a lifestyle of maybes. They create a fake world like the trips to Morocco but it's all just them letting the music life take them as far as it can because she's terrified to be "normal ". She mirrors his sister in that way and that's how he recognizes that persona.
I love how he goes off on her, it's brutal but it's fair. "Penny Lane" is too fake, he has a crush on her (whoever "her" is) but realizes he can't continue to deal with her unless he said what he did in this scene He shouldn't have apologized to her, she should have apologized to him after what he said.
Well, to be fair to Penny, she's obviously damaged goods; I suspect something happened to her at some point in her life that made her want to bury her true self and escape into the Penny Lane persona. I mean, the way she looks at him, she's utterly terrified of him seeing 'her' even for a single second. They never actually delve into the background of why Lady Goodman ran away from herself, so to speak, to become Penny Lane, but I suspect it was something pretty traumatic
