Daichi having an internal crisis after watching Oikawa turn into a literal cannon will never not be funny. I personally love their rivalry as fellow captains and since Oikawa is known for his serves and Daichi is known for his receives it makes it 10x better.
Actually, Oikawa saying "Then we'll serve first" was more of him acknowledging that Daichi directly challenged Oikawa by saying that they'd receive first, knowing full well that the first serve of the game would be coming from Oikawa himself. He's basically saying "challenge accepted," not being childish.
One thing I love about this rematch is that it feels more like Seijoh vs Karasuno rather than just Oikawa. We get to really see how much faith the team puts in Oikawa as their captain and it’s pretty endearing. That moment when they said “We believe in you captain” was another one of my favorite moments since Oikawa isn’t used to hearing that. We always see Seijoh tease Oikawa but when it comes down to it they trust their captain 100%.
I love that Haikyuu includes little routines when doing serves because that’s something I used to do when I played volleyball. Oikawa holding his breath and puffing his cheeks every time he does a super strong serve is a nice little detail and when I read the manga I was happy to see that they kept his routine consistent even when he was an adult. (Seeing a grown man puff his cheeks was pretty funny to me as well lol)
God if thats Oikawa’s serve when he’s in highschool then I can’t wait to see how much more stronger and controlled it’ll be when he’s an adult. He has so much potential and it’s lowkey terrifying? at least for whoever he goes against
Something I noticed is that they had Oikawa mess up his serves in the first set as a foreshadowing, then had him ace them in the second and third sets. Also can we talk about the animation?? I finished Haikyuu a while ago but Oikawa’s monster serve will always be my favorite.

Oikawa and Hinata are similar in that they would try a new move in the middle of an intense game just to see if it would work 😭 They’ll risk it all and it’s something I love about both of their characters. They have a lot of similarities actually so I can’t wait to see more of their interactions animated in the future.

You'll love Oikawa, or at least understand his character more, by the end of this season. I've loved Oikawa since he was first introduced (I just know there was more to his character than how he was shown), but these last few episodes of season 2 really solidified my love for him. Please pay attention.
Your analysis of Mad Dog is spot on, I think. It's quite interesting that this episode hearkens back to s2, e5, when Hinata knocks into Asahi, showing his "greed." We could apply the same logic here to Mad Dog knocking over Kindaichi. How much will Mad Dog's individualism affect Seijoh as a collective?
