To explain My Deer Friend, it comes down to the fact that everyone involved in its production is not entirely sane. By the way, the title of this song, "Shikairo Days(deer-color days)," is a reference to "Sorairo Days(sky-color days)" from Gurren Lagann OP.
NO WAY, I KNEW IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH GURREN LAGANN. It feels nice how that anime is getting referenced even now.

Although the official statement does not explicitly say so, they are using the strange and non-existent term “shika-iro.” It is clear that they are consciously reference to “sora-iro.”
Additionally, the point that "days" is intentionally written in katakana as “デイズ” (シカ色デイズ shikairo days, 空色デイズ sorairo days).
By the way, to make it clearer, I wrote "sorairo" as “sky-color,” but the correct translation is “sky blue.” Just like in English, in this case, iro is more of an expression meaning “something like” rather than a specific color. Its kind of like how "bara iro (bara=rose)" does not mean red, but rather a happy life(rosy life).

Lots to unpack here. "Shikanoko" is the last name of the deer girl and the kanji literally means "Deer Child". "Nokonoko" is a play on words as the Shikanoko's first name is "Noko" but "nokonoko" means to walk around aimlessly. "Koshitantan" is also a play on words as "Koshi" is the name of the MC but "Koshitantan" is a phrase used for a predator waiting to strike its prey. So, literally, the title means Shikanoko walks around aimlessly as it waits for the opportune moment to pounce on its prey. But the phoenetics of the entire title is very rhythmic so it makes for a good OP.
But Koshi-tan aka Koshi Torako is a tiger.

I just started watching the anime (just ep 1) and have no knowledge of the manga but based on how the first episode went it looks like the deer has the upper hand on the tiger so I'm not entirely sure which is the predator or prey (akin to the relationship between Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner).
The food made at the ending is a snack that deer like. In Nara, Japan, you can buy those treats and give them to the deer.

@@HaxeRainand the VA for the sister is the voice of Mafuyu Asahina from PRSK, which is a Hatsune Miku game. Having them both voice act in the show is pretty funny.
So Miku and Mafuyu are siblings in this show, and Anko sounds exactly like Mafuyu (complete w/ the purple hair).

It's a sweet that deer eats. Of course, humans can eat that deer rice cracker, but the taste is thin.

This anime is quite brilliant, besides being fun, it ends up encouraging a lot of people to visit Nara Kōen. Promoting local tourism.
Reminds me of how Zombie Land Saga got people to visit Saga.

3:55 for Shabir: they are making senbei rice crackers for the deer. In the japanese city Nara there are 100s of wild but very friendly deer roaming around, and tourists and locals can feed them senbei rice crackers.
Normally the deer would need to eat a lot of grass every day to stay healthy, but with the rice crackers being more nutritious than grass the deer has grown accustomed to humans from humans feeding them the rice crackers.
They are actually so used to humans that if I remember correctly, during the lockdown with no tourists around to help the locals feed them some of the deer started to end up with weight loss due to malnutrition for a period of time.

The ED Title is Shika-senbei no Uta
Which literally means Deer Cracker Song and the video in the ED is the production of Deer Crackers in Nara, Japan.
I've been to Nara once, as soon as I bought a shika senbei packet, a deer started poking from behind to try to take the packet away 😁
Aside from "Oshi no Ko" and "MY Deer", based on watching just the first episode, "Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian" and "Senpai is an Otokonoko" were fun. "The Elusive Samurai", "Wistoria: Wand and Sword", and "2.5 Dimensional Seduction" also seem like they might become interesting from here on out.
Sakuna and the Vtuber Legend are also both amazing

Sort of. The title of the series in Japanese is very explicit about the plot (tiger girl watches deer girl or something like that) whereas the English title is just a pun and that they’re friends.
