Tina Arena departed the Young Talent Time show in October 1983, ahead of her 16th birthday, due to the Network Ten Young Talent Time series age-limit contract stipulation to give way for younger members.

Two of the greatest opera singers of all time were Dame Nellie Melba & Dame Joan Sutherland, who were both Australian. There's a theory why Aussies are such good singers. We speak in the front of our face, so learning to project is a lot easier for us than say an American who has an accent that makes them speak in the back of their throat.Richard Harris. the Irish actor & original Dumbledore, had a hit with the ballad version of Macarthur Park in the 70s &Donna covered it. Kylie Minogue is probably our disco queen even thou she isn't a great singer. After that, probably Marcia Hines.

It is called Young Talent time man, and as Shandah said: Tina had to leave at the age of 16 due to the show rules. She was on it for the longest out of any cast members (1975-1983). It had certain children who could sing and was on for about two decades. This was how she became famous in Australia. Then 1990s onwards she had her solo career.

Now my infatuation is with her voice, as I believe she is not only one of the best singers in the world right now (in her mid 50's), but also must surely be one of the best in history. Her style is Aussie all the way, yet ear candy for the whole world. A one of a kind.

That man who called is Johnny Young. He is the Australian music industry king pin. He created stars for fun. He was there on centre stage, behind the scenes as a producer, he was everywhere. If Johnny liked you, Australia will like you. He wrote and produced some great Aussie music also like "Real thing'. In Tinas case, God made Tina and Johnny just made sure we got to hear her. Tina's voice and character is beyond the angels.

Tina left Young Tallent Time in 1983 when she was 16 years old. That was the age limit for the show. She joined the show when she was 9 years old and was known as "Tiny" Tina Arina. The host Johnny Young (hence the shows name) was an Australian (born in The Netherlands) pop singer in the mid-1960s, he toured with the Rolling Stones and supported Roy Orbison on their Australian tours. Johnny went on to be a composer, record producer, disc jockey, television producer and TV host. He wrote the two hit songs "The Real Thing" and "The Girl That I Loved" for Russell Morris, who you have also reacted to. Johnny Young did a great thing in finding and training Australia's kids in music. He opened talent schools all around the country. He is still going and is now aged 74.

YTT was an institution and gave so many young singers their start - including the Minogues! I got choked up when she mentioned her cousins - I sang with her cousin Francesca (Frankie) Arena, and her voice was equal to Tina’s. Same effortless belt too - she played Eva Peron in Evita and that role is virtually impossible to sing. What talent, they both make me a proud resident of Melbourne’s West xo

Tina Arena was a contestant on Young Talent Time (YTT) in 1974. She was asked to join the cast and from 1976 (aged 9) until she left in 1983 just one month before her 16th birthday. So she was 15 in this video. The contract rules stated that you could only be a cast member until you turned 16 to allow new and younger cast members to join. The little girl who handed her the bouquet of flowers was Danielle Minogue, younger sister of Kylie Minogue. Dannii has had success as a singer mainly in Great Britain and Australia and has been a Judge on several shows such as The X Factor UK and The X Factor Australia, Australia’s Got Talent, Britain And Ireland’s Next Top Model and The Masked Singer Australia. Johnny Young host and producer of Young Talent Time from 1971 - 1988 is a singer, composer, record and tv producer. YTT found and trained young Australian Talent. Tina was amazing right from the start. I’m glad you enjoyed seeing her sing. She is a much loved Australian. Thanks for watching our talented Aussies. Hugs from Australia ❤️❤️🐨❤️❤️

Tina looks and sounds even better now , what a great voice . I come from a French background with my family but 1st generation born here , and I got to tell you Tina had a huge career in France . They started to compere her to Edith Piaf and that is saying something .The French are very protective of Piaf and they took Tina to their hearts , some of the songs she wrote or covered were so fantastic Love Love to her . P.S MacArthur Park was sung by Richard Harris in A film and musical called CAMELOT the story of King Arthur ,also starring Vanessa Redgrave and Franco Nero as Lancelot , cheers from Australia xo

Young Talent Time was an Australian television variety program produced by Lewis-Young Productions and screened on Network Ten. The original series ran from 1971 until 1988 and was hosted by singer-songwriter and record producer Johnny Young for its entire run. Tina said "I did struggle with it. In the beginning I did. I was like... I’m 16, I've got to go. And it was confronting only because it had been so familiar and something I loved so much, but I really was equally ready to move on as well," she explained. Peace out.

Absolutely loved Young Talent Time. One of Australia's longest-running TV shows. It ran from 1971 to 1988 - altogether 40 talented kids appeared on the show over the years, because they usually stayed four or five years. Some amazing voices. Tina, obviously! Show host and creator Johnny Young said, that every time Tina picked up a microphone and sang on YTT, even as a 9 year old when she first began on the show, everyone would be blown away, but they could never tell her, for fear of playing favourites! They didn't want any of the kids to be singled out. Johnny Young had an amazing eye for talent, he and his show introduced some great Aussie future stars. Some of the other kids on the show were amazing too, and still sing. Karen Knowles, Beven Addinsall, Mark Stevens, Lorena Novoa, Natalie Miller, Bobby Driessen...amazing talent. Two of my favourites were Juanita Coco (who appeared on the show from 1987 to 1988 when it was axed) - an absolutely beautiful soul who was a stunning singer and dancer - she tragically died in a car accident in 1993 at the age of 17. Besides YTT, Juanita performed in a couple of bands and in her school musicals. Every year since her death her school has given an award in her name to a deserving student performing that year. So glad she hasn't been forgotten. She was so amazing and would have been such a star ❤️ The other was Courtney Compagnino - she started on the show in 1986 at 8 years old and she was a fabulous ball of talent and energy. Johnny Young actually said that when he saw Courtney audition for YTT he thought to himself 'Here's the next Tina Arena'. Courtney had great vocals for an 8 year old. She was only 11 when YTT was axed and it is a shame that the show ended before the later kids could develop their talents. You should have a look at some of their performances 🙂
As for Australia's Queen Of Disco? Definitely Marcia Hines ❤️ Born in America, came to Australia as a 16 year old to perform in Hair, and never left. She is brilliant. She had some great hits, including a beautiful version of James Taylor's 'Fire And Rain'. My favourite songs of Marcia's are 'Your Love Still Brings Me To My Knees' and 'You'. Check them out 🙂

Tina Arena was a kid here. It was just before she turned 16. What a voice. She could belt it out when she was 6. Her farewell to YTT was in October 1983.
Marcia Hines is considered Australia's queen of disco, which is ironic considering when she grew up in Boston, she was friends with Linda Gaines who is Donna Summer's sister, and many consider Donna to be the Queen of disco.
Tina was too young at the time of disco to hold that crown, as was Kylie.

YTT was a family entertainment show that kids watched on a Saturday night Tina was one of the favourite members but really most of the kids were incredible singers and they did some old school dancing as well. The team members like Tina became a part of the show from around 7-12 ish and stayed on the show until they reached 16 so Tina was just 16 here. Johnny Young the host was also the Producer I think and really facilitated a lot of talented youngsters over the years. He was a singer himself. IT also had a talent quest component where contestants competed against each other singing/dancing/playing an instrument. I wanted to be on that show soooooooo badly as a kid I spent a lot of my free time singing and dancing and performing for my family 😁 I remember this episode vividly I cried when she left.

Me TOO! Singing & dancing around the house - dreaming of being on YTT! Loved that show & everyone on it.
What was the first single that Tina came out with solo after this - where she was so determined to be ' all grown up now!'? Fans reeled in shock! ...as I recall. 🤣

@@linmonash1244 'I need your body' was the single - with Tina decked out in black dress (with "the girls" tastefully on display 😁) and heels to show everyone "hey, I'm not a little girl any more". Then a bit later of course came 'Chains",' which really told us all "I'm a grown-ass woman now!" 😄💃👠💄🎤 🎶

That was a young Danni Minogue (Kylie’s little sister) who handed Tina the flowers at the end. Tina was 15 years old here. We were surprised at her choice of MacArthur Park…until she left our collective jaws on the ground by the end of that performance. She said to Australia (who had been watching her on Young Talent Time since she was 7 years old): buckle up world, because I fully intend to be a force to be reckoned with…and she wasn’t wrong!

I think the club she was part of was like The Mickey Mouse Club. The Mouse had Britney, Christina, Justin, etc.. I think they might have had their own night when each of them left. This was October of 1983. She was 15 when she appeared here. She had to leave it was contractual 16 and you're out.
Actually it is a Jimmy Webb classic and Richard Harris, the actor, made it a hit before Donna got ahold of it. I liked hers better but we still have to credit Jimmy Webb for writing it. Jimmy wrote a lot of great songs many sung by the late great Glenn Campbell, Wichita Lineman, By The Time I Get To Phoenix, Didn't We, Up, Up And Away and Cry In My Sleep, to name a few.

Back in the Disco days Olivia Newton John with Xanadu was probably the most well known Disco Queen but Kylie Minogue always puts a Disco spin on something live, and has released an actual Disco album. In Australia no one could compare to The BeeGee’s anyway.

If I had put the video up I woukd have written as an explanation : “Tina arena joined the Australian tv show young talent time as a 9 year old in 1978, she served 7 years as a team member, when she retired from the show at 16. Farewells for team members after they turned 16 were always sad shows because Australians had watched the team member develop over the years, growing up on screen. Tina was one of 40 team members over the shows 18 year run. Many of them went onto careers in the entertainment industry. Debbie, Jane, phillip, John, Karen Knowles, Steven, Derek dannii and Beven, so many of Australia’s favourites came out of this television show and everyone over a certain age has memories of their favourite”
