Dear Jamie, first please stop apologizing for taking the time to talk to us. Those of us who have experienced the loss of a fur baby know all too well well the stages of that particular grief and those who don’t love and admire you too. This kind of grief sucks, it hurts and it’s hard. But, I speak only for myself when I say you should absolutely without a doubt rely on us, your forever fans. You are the best dog dad and I admire the hell out of you strength and ability to let us share in your grief as we well loved Sherpa to. See you soon and all our blessings for healing. 😇 ❤🐾

I never thought I’d cry and grieve the death of a dog 5,000 miles away but that’s how special Sherpa was. I lost my 15 year old pup a few months ago and it’s the worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life. You’re not alone Jamie and I believe God holds our babies in His arms. They are free from the pain of this world. God bless.

That's what I did. After the Houston tornado, my Yogi brought me another pup to love and care for. He's the same breed - a clear sign that Yogi sent him to me. 2 weeks after her passing at 8 years old. It was too quiet in the apt, and he needed a home. God's timing!

I went through that pain with our 16-17 year old rescue (we had 12+ years with her) right before covid shut-down everything. Her cancer diagnosis gave us 3 more weeks of loving on her & preparing for the end, but it still was devastating. Then 1 night a few months later I dreamed of her, there was a news article about shelters having to figure out new ways to getting dogs adopted on the TV and she was looking at me and 'smiling' her big silly smile. I just felt her saying..."they need you, like I did. Help them." Now there are 2 that came from rough starts. And we still think of her often, not forgotten at all.

At 71, I deal in lasts all the time. My last dog died 3 years ago. I had senior housing hold my pet deposit for a year. I am in a wheelchair and have 4 seasons to deal with. I didn't know if I could walk the path of life without a dog beside me, they just give so much to me. Finally, I came to the decision, that it would not be fair to my dog, to loose me and have to find a new home. Jamie, you are young & healthy...there is a dog out there who will love to be your pack...or maybe 2 to watch the shenanigans (ok I'm the devils advocate, LOL). Grieve well & hard, then go on your search for a new pal(s) for Sherpa's house. Life is to short.

Our pets, are our fur babies, our children and yes our lives are dedicated to their needs and the love grows every day. Just to see their eyes again, pet their fur, get a kiss. It just socks, sorry but the loss is immense, it's unbelievably earth shattering, like what do I do now!? What am I supposed to do right now, can't walk, how long can I look at her/his things here? Its been 2 months for me and I have to say, just as hard. I watch videos about dogs, and cry my freaking eyes out for all of the sad stories. Why? Am I thinking it will help in someway? Am I punishing myself for putting my Lulu down? Its all new, she was my first fur baby and although my retired life is boring, quiet and she gave me purpose I don't know if I can get another dog. Many say that's what I need, it will help. Rescue or adopt and your heart will be again healed, well I am not sure. I know I am rambling on here, my apologies. Just typing what comes in my thoughts. My Emily's ashes are also in a blue velvet bag with part of the Rainbow Bridge poem embroidered in it. The bag is in a special handcarved teakwood box. I held onto a small teddy bear that had a prayer cloth around its neck, given to me by my closest cousin, for comfort. It was with me in my home wherever I was, even on a pillow next to me in bed. I could put my face in its fur, and with eyes closed, it felt just like Emily's fur. She was a cat, so of course there were no captured scents of her on anything. I had her for 19 years, so I was fortunate to have her loving companionship for as long as I did. Even though she's been gone 12 years, I can still hear little mews she made when carrying her favorite long braided piece of yarn to bring to me when I was in another part of the house. She would drop it, and I would wrap it loosely around her neck. She would take off running with it, bouncing off the walls until finally she had recovered her string again.
Being here in the comments and reading everyone's condolences and sympathies has been comforting to me as I am sure it has been to Jamie. I was so glad to see Jamie's post today even though I started crying all over again. I am so glad to hear he plans to continue to post. I am ordering a box of sympathy and thinking of you cards to start sending Jamie. I hope he gets as many as the 6,000+ comments that are attached to this video. I will give him virtual hugs of encouragement. Jamie was the best dog dad of anyone I've ever known. He's a very special person to all of us. We are all feeling sad for Jamie right now. I'm so happy we have hundreds if not thousands of videos of Sherpa we can look at forever. Thank you to all the fans of Sherpa and Jamie for your expressions of love here. 🫂🐾🌈💔🕊

After a period of mourning, you should probably get another dog. Sherpa cannot be replaced but you can still love. It took me several years to realize that. When I finally adopted another dog, I loved him and found that I no longer had that empty hole in my heart. And Sherpa would not want his lovely garden to be wasted.

I missed the companionship, the walking buddy, the sounding board-everything. I began to look and found a new dog. He looks a lot like my Hope and is just as sweet and loving as she was. I believe that she sent him to me. Picked him out just for me to ease my sad heart and to watch over me. You never replace your dog-you simply make space for another. The unconditional love they give is unmatched. I didn’t put away any of my husky’s things for quite some time. I even left her paw prints on the seats of my car until they didn’t look like paw prints anymore. And her nose smudges on the car windows. This was almost a year and a half ago. I still have his toys, his brushes and his feeding bowls. I also still mentally say goodbye and hello whenever I leave or come back in the house. Some things will never change, no matter how much time it passes. Take your time Jamie, and talk to us if your feeling bad or nostalgic about Sherpa. In a way, we're grieving with you

I have a sweet story. A friend has a vacation home in DE. At the end of the season, we would take our dogs to play at the beach. My baby was a black Lab so of course she loved the water😀. After she crossed the rainbow bridge, I decided to sprinkle some of her ashes in the Ocean that she loved. Afterward, we walked along the beach and one of my friends was ahead of me. Next thing you know, I see her waving like a mad woman. She had just met a woman with her black Lab. It was surreal. The spirit of my dog came through that baby. She had all the same mannerism and zest for life as my baby. While in tears, I took it as a sign my baby was letting me know she is there and happy❤🐕

Jamie God bless you. For a little time to come, you will find yourself repeating the routine you have had for the past 13 almost 14 years and this is nothing to be worried about and is perfectly natural:
    - Hearing Sherpa
    - Looking for Sherpa either in the bungalow or garden
    - Filling Sherpa's water bowls
    - Cooking/preparing Sherpa's food
    - Closing doors so Sherpa does not get trapped in a room
    - Laying down/straightening rugs so Sherpa does not slip
    - Cleaning Sherpa's dog beds
All of these things and more, you will find yourself doing for a little while. It is called grieving and it cannot be ignored or fought against. It is natural and we are all here for you.
You have not lost Sherpa, he will always be in your heart forever. And like you said in your video just now, it will always be "we".
Do not ever apologise for "ranting". You are not ranting, you are simply talking and sharing your thoughts about our beloved Sherpa.
I hope this donation helps towards giving Sherpa, the send off he deserves.
    God bless you Jamie.

My personal belief is that someday, you will see a pup that reminds you of Sherpa in a way that no one can explain. If or when that happens, don’t be sad - it will be Sherpa, returned to make sure you’re alright.

We lost our beagle, Buddy, to cancer 12 years ago, and we still talk about what a good and funny dog he was. Our dog now, a rescue senior dog, is starting to get sick more often. Like you, we do everything we can for her but at 17 and a half years, we know the time is going to come. She has a DNR order in her chart at the vet. THAT was the first hard decision. Now we make sure that she is comfortable and happy every day that we have left. Might be 1 more day, or still more years to go. We rescued Brooklyn about 6 months after Buddy passed. Sherpa has not left you, he has gone to a place where he is always young, always happy, always by your side. Your love for Sherpa will always keep him by your side. I'm praying for you daily, Jamie. That’s a good idea, taking his blanket to bed. When my husband’s body died I put his unwashed t shirts down with our fur ones. The howls and yowls really decreased. And a couple days after our beloved cat of over 20 years crossed over my husband and I were watching TV in bed and both sat bolt upright at the same time. When I asked him why, after he’d rolled back over, he said “Thought I felt a cat jump up over there” & jerked his head to the exact spot I’d felt a cat jump up. This went on for a couple months until I suppose she felt we’d be ok. The more recent crossing of our dog & cat hasn’t come with anything like that. I think they’re too busy with my husband. Hugs to you and to Sherpa.

My cat, who used to shed like crazy, had a spot behind the curtain to watch the world. Months later when I went to take them down to wash them, the curtain liner had a cat-back-shaped hairy shadow. It peeled off like a mat, and it smelled of him. I hadn’t the heart to throw those things out. It’s in a plastic bag in beside his ashes, along with his favourite “mouse” and one of his shed whiskers that I’d found when vacuuming.
