Peștera Muierilor / Women's Cave - Baia de Fier, Gorj County

Peștera are o lungime de aproximativ 7.000 de metri dispusă în 4 niveluri. Nivelul inferior constituie rezervația speologica împartita in doua sectoare: sectorul de nord (1.500m) și sectorul de sud (880m). La 40 de metri inălțime se afla etajul superior amenajat pentru turiști cu o lungime de 573 m.
Atracții ale peșterii sunt Domul Mic, care are un aspect asemănător unei cupole gotice format prin precipitarea milenară a calcitei. Celelalte încăperi sunt Sala Altarului, Valul Altarului, Amvonul, Candelabrul Mare și imaginea Stâncii Însângerate denumită datorită scurgerilor oxidului de fier. În Cupola înaltă de 17 m întâlnim o colonie de lilieci. Ei se hrănesc cu insecte pe care le procură noaptea, înafara peșterii.
Alte câteva atracții sunt Vălul Muierii, Bazinele Mari, Cascadele Împietrite, Dantela de Piatră, Poarta, Sala cu Guano, Sala Turcului. În Galeria Urșilor a fost găsit un adevărat cimitir de resturi scheletice de urși, lei, hiene, vulpi, lupi, capre sălbatice și mistreți. În Sala Musteriană au fost descoperite foarte multe obiecte aparținând culturilor cu mult înaintea erei noastre.
În Peștera Muierilor s-au descoperit urși de cavernă complet pietrificați.
The cave has a length of approximately 7,000 meters arranged in 4 levels. The lower level constitutes the speleological reserve divided into two sectors: the northern sector (1,500m) and the southern sector (880m). At 40 meters high is the upper floor designed for tourists with a length of 573 m.
Attractions of the cave are the Small Dome, which has a Gothic dome-like appearance formed by the millennial precipitation of calcite. The other rooms are the Hall of the Altar, the Wave of the Altar, the Pulpit, the Great Candelabrum and the image of the Bloody Rock named because of the iron oxide leaks. In the 17 m high Dome we meet a colony of bats. They feed on insects that they procure at night, outside the cave.
Some other attractions are the Muieri Veil, the Great Pools, the Petrified Waterfalls, the Stone Lace, the Gate, the Guano Hall, the Turk's Hall. A veritable graveyard of skeletal remains of bears, lions, hyenas, foxes, wolves, wild goats and wild boars was found in the Bear Gallery. Many objects belonging to cultures long before our era were discovered in the Mousterian Hall.
Completely petrified cave bears were discovered in the Women's Cave.
