- In this week’s video I thought I would try the new granulating watercolours by Kuretake. I found this set on Amazon last week and I thought they would be intresting to try on my channel. I have used Gansi paint for a few years now and really enjoy them. From the images online they looked like a very unique set with lots of texture and variation.
For the demo in this video I thought I would paint some Sea creatures with the colour called Arara orange as It reminded me of seaweed. Over all I am very happy with the paints even though I was a little sceptical at first. They are unique and unlike any other paints in my collection. I hope you find this video informative and it helps you decide if these are the right paints for you.
If you are curious I managed to pick mine up from amazon Uk for around £20.
Materials I used in this video

This is the BEST example of using this particular palette on the internet. Outstanding work!
Wow thank you!😀
I wholeheartedly agree!!! ❤❤❤
Looks like a copper patina they're very pretty.
I thought that... I feel like this particular shade would makes some amazing steampunk style paintings.
Came her to say the same thing - they should have named the colour copper verdigris
it really does look like verdigris!
I’ve NEVER heard of these types of paints before. I am FLOORED at how the final product came out!
Thank you!
Oh wow, those colors were not what I was expecting! I kind of want to try using paints like this. It kind of forces you to give up control, which is something I appreciate about them.
Also, loving the Gerudo music. I immediately got all giddy when I heard the opening music. 😂
I would have never guessed those illustrations were made with one color, they look so good!!
2 colors in one pan(?)
@@toshabeans I realize granulating colors are made with multiple pigments, but it's cool not having to think of them as separate while you paint.
This is probably one of the coolest paintings I've seen anyone do in a while! I watch a LOT of videos for painting too. This looks like you painted sea animals in oxidized copper. My suggestion for a sea animal to add to this spread is a lionfish. They're an invasive species, unfortunately, but they are BEAUTIFUL. I'd love to see what these paints would do on one.
Thank you I will probably have a go!😀
Also jellyfish & a stingray would be an awesome addition too. If you do add to your painting please show us your style. I learnt heaps just watching. The seal was my ultimate favourite ❤❤❤
Maybe a bayleen whale? Is a penguin a sea animal? So many beautiful sea creatures to choose from! What about the scary ones like lure fish or blob fish?
😂 wow so I started this video HATING those colors, I was like “what is this mud?!” Then they did that weird splashy vivid stuff when they dried… and I was intrigued. THEN your sea creatures made me GASP and I found myself filled with wonder… I’ve about run the gamut of human emotions during this short twenty minute video! I think these colors are way too unpredictable for my taste but your idea of doing something monochromatic really lends itself well to these paints. You’re a brave soul, delving into such uncertain territory! And your artwork is beautiful ❤ thanks for sharing!!
Thank you so much!
Your paintings are what makes the paints look good. When I looked at the swatches, they seemed like any other of their kind. I too felt irritated with there only being five in the box. Leaving an empty pan and claiming it is there as a palette. The only thing I believe made the paints shine is your artistic skill and the vision you had in your theme. Someone beginning their journey like me may only feel frustration trying to work out how best to use them. I love Kuretake as a rule and have a few sets, but this set isn’t for me I think. Thanks for a wonderful and insightful video though. 👩🏻🎨🎨🖌️
Thank you, glad it was informative I know they will not be for everyone😀
It’s just a sneaky price rise.
It’s actually baffling they’re marketing the empty pan as a bonus 😂
@@razrv3lc exactly!
This is the best demo of these paints i have seen so far
Thank you!
It is really great to see the granulating Kuretake set used by different artists. The empty pan would have been perfect for your monochromatic use. Other painters have thought that each color needed its own empty mixing pan. Maybe the empty pan is to emphasize the importance of mixing with water first instead of using straight from the pan. I agree that the packaging does feel like you are missing a color.
The dried, end-result reminds me so much of a bronze patina.
relaxing Zelda music plus granulated wc painting T-T
Thank you😀
Gerudo village!
Beautiful artwork - you got better results than I did. I think I will go back and test them again. I painted a seahorse using these paints and it turned out really well. These paints certainly suit underwater creatures. Lovely video, thank you. 🙏💜
Thank you!
Your work is so gorgeous! Which is all the more impressive given these paints look so frustrating to work with due to that intense color shift! So glad the algorithm decided to drop you in my feed 😁💜
That green copper mix is BANGING wow I love em
the geurudo valley music while painting fish is taking me back to majoras mask lmao. beautiful work!
Thank you!
Gorgeous artwork! Your design really made the best of the paint. Just beautiful.
Wow they are very magical paints!!! Your pictures are stunning 😍
Thank you 😀
The swatches look like slices of interesting radishes
These are such gorgeous illustrations! And that paint is utterly bonkers... i must hunt down a set! Absolutely well done with your mastery in controlling the pigments.
Thank you!
Wow! Those dried swatches shocked me! Awesome video ❤
Wow, that shift of color between wet and dry was quite dramatic, certainly didn't expect that! Your demo was very gorgeous btw, the otter is my favorite. Also, I think a shrimp or a seahorse would look quite cute in a spread like this.
Thank you!
These are genuinely some of the prettiest colors I’ve ever seen and that sea life painting really took it to the next level. Super cool.
Thank you!
Zelda music spotted... nerd aside, I love the granulation on these paints and the way they separate out so dramatically
lol thank you!
Cool thanks, sea cucumbers. Laurie. NZ.
Lovely animals as always ! thank you for sharing
Thank you 😀
Way cool! Love the colors.
These watercolor paints are beautiful. And your sea creatures came out so cool looking! It sort of reminds me of labradorite. Thanks so much for sharing!
The orange is definitely the standout colour in this range. A truly gorgeous illustration ❤❤❤
Thank you! 😀
Absolutely brilliant. I always wondered how to use such paints.
Oh wow !! This is insane !! Kuretake should sponsor this!! I reckon they will be getting a lot of orders off the back of this video! How did you get it to be orange and green and brown? Did you just have to hope the colours worked out that way?? ❤
Thank you, it tendedto bo more brown where I addaed a thicker coat, so I had a little amount of control!😀
I love your illustrations. They are lovely and perfectly work with this specific paint.
Thank you!😀
You did a great job creating depth and dimension just with one color, the illustration is beautiful :)
Gorgeous artwork!
Love to see more of those illustrations. They look really beautiful. ❤
Thank you!😀
I live for your creature art ❤ so clean and pretty!
This is incredible. I have looked at other videos on this set of paints and you provided such a huge control of this granulating paint. I don't think this set is for me but thank you for showing what you did with this paint type.
Thank you!
I’m glad you used the orange. You really made them work for you! Love how weird the combo is!
Thank you!😀
That was such a magical painting sessioon and the music really rounded it off so nicely. Well done!! I didn’t expect they could look so lovely from the original swatches. 😍✨
Thank you!😀
The effect you can get out of these paints is so cool and I love how you use them!
Thank you!
Absolutely phenomenal artwork. I've found myself rewatching this video for the past couple days. I can't get over how you created this artwork. I'm completely in awe. Amazing work.
So true 😮
Thank you!
These colors look gorgeous! I love the result of the demo! Great stuff! I look forward to getting my hands on these!
I wasn't sure about them when you swatched them but after seeing what you did with them in your illustrations 😍 Bloomin gorgeous!
thank you! 😀
These are absolutely stunning! I never would have guessed the end results from the swatches. I would love to see more sea creatures, there are so many interesting starfish and jellies for instance.
Thank you!😀
Fantastic! I bought these paints a couple of months ago but have been waiting for some tutorials to guide me before I worked with them. This is EXACTLY what I needed. I love the under painting with them first then the details. Thank you for this!
Glad I could help!
randomlly clicked on this vid and glad I did. Those sea creatures are beautiful! very nice control of value.
Thank you!
Wow , magical effects. Amazon have sold out of them so they must be pretty popular. Amazing colours! .
Thank you 🤗
You are brilliantly talented!🎉
Thank you! 😊
yey that's the new set!🤩
Oooo… I’m sold! 😍
Hi! New subscriber here 😊 Your painting skills definitely made these paints look way better than they would be for most people.I wasn’t particularly interested in this set, I thought the price was quite steep considering the art nouveau set for 9 pounds more will give you 4x more paints (and more variety). I think you are right in that they used neon dyes. I think one could get similar effects by mixing phthalo green with some brownish reds and get even more granulation. I feel this set is more about colour separation than granulation in effect.
Thank you!
I just got these. I love them!
Superb demo ❤
The more I see Art with this set, the more i look forward to getting my set this week!
❤ that so cool❤
Love the Gerudo Valley theme but couldn't help wonder why she didn't use the Zora music instead. Gerudo Valley is a desert. Zora is the water zone. Still, it's beautiful. The paints are also lovely. 💜
Because I really like tais one!
@@washedoutwyvern That's all the reason anybody needs. 🥰
Woooaaahh...I gotta get me some of these
Holy crap! 😳 how fun 🥰🥰 thank you 🤓
That’s absolutely amazing. I love my kerutake gamsai tambi & you did an amazing spread. I had all the sets of six pans & have seen mixed reviews but you made the orange into amazing sea creatures. It would look amazing to give them a Great Barrier Reef type of setting for them to swim over. You have made the granulating colours into an amazing art piece. Thank you❤❤❤ from Perth Western Australia
Goodness, I didn’t realise until I read it back how many times I used the adjective “Amazing”. So sorry lol ❤❤❤
Thank you thats a good idea, I might look into that!😀
Seems as if the paints are sold out in the UK at the moment but I will keep searching for them. Beautiful illustration
Love these paints! I am currently into painting marine life. Definitely going to invest in these gorgeous paints. Love your layout!

I sincerely love cotman paynes gray. I like it better than their pro version. it's just something simple and lovely. Now I'm going to go find the indigo.
Amazing artwork 😍😍😍
Thank you!
it looks amazing 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
awesome!!
Thank you!
Looks amazing!
Thank you!
Kuretake watercolor paints contain traditional, highly pigmented Japanese watercolor paints. It is suitable for the professional artist and is ideal for sketches, illustrations, sumi-e.....
The painting you did at the end changed my mind about these. Beautiful! I saw another artist review these but her painting was too simple to do them justice. They are very interesting.
thank you!
Perfect technique for these type of watercolors ❤ Very good job
Thank you so much 😀
Gorgeous illustration!!
Thank you!😀
nice color combination and motives
Thank you!
Can't find them anywhere, but I really like the granulating colors!
it looks so awesome, the watercolor actually reminds me of fountain pen inks, which we called sheen for the color changing effects. (which also the reason that i love fountain pen inks) but i never though of they can do it on watercolor now😍 truly amazing
Thank you!
Liked and subscribed😊
Thank you!
Who else noticed the zelda music? 👀
Very good artwort! I am still learning on how to use watercolour but this video really motivated me to try some more, bc these seacreatures look amazing! :)
Thank you!
