  • Power up your speakers with BASSBOSS Designer David Lee. In this video, David Lee dives into the best type of generator to run your audio system and why. Loudspeaker systems draw current in a peaking fashion, so they demand a non-linear amount of current, with peaks and valleys. Inverter-style generators work by charging a bank of capacitors that can deliver power quickly, without depending on the speed or rotation of the generator to get the voltage or frequency. On the other hand, conventional generators have a throttle that constantly chases the current draw demand, making them struggle to keep up with music's constant ups and downs. David Lee recommends looking at the power ratings of subwoofers to determine the generator size needed.

I run two EV 12 inch tops and two EV 18 inch subs just fine off of a 2000 watt rated inverter generator. It works great for weddings and parties. I suppose that if I were to go louder and larger I would probably move up to a 3000 watt generator. My speakers have Class D amplifiers in them which helps because they are so efficient ...

Is there an inverter that you can place between a conventional generator and the sound syatem?

Would u say ecoflow river pro could work with 1250rms 2500w peak speaker, or is it bad to use because of the peaking fashion of speakers. Also many people has said to use car batteries with inverters to get cheaper power.

En resumen q un generador normal no es estable en voltaje para un audio y un generador invertido es mas estable en cuanto a estabilidad electrica.Solo checa cuantos watts es lo q vas a ocupar.. espero y ye haya servido.👍

Hey man, I got an XDJ XZ and a JVC Large speaker that runs on Battery. If I connect my Speaker to my XDJ XZ, then my XDJ XZ to a generator, will the Generator need the wattage power to cover the Speaker? Even though the speaker runs on battery? Because its connected to my XDJ XZ? Or If I just get a smaller generator just for the XDJ XZ and use this method, will be okay? Help please someone. I want to film myself in the desert DJing.

Hi David, I'm looking to build a BASSBOSS system for a mutant art vehicle for Burning Man and various Burning Man regional events. I hope to power your VS21-MK3 (x2) and DV12-MK3 (x2) via my EcoFlow DELTA 2 Max power generators. Each one provides 2,400W (with up to 4,800W) surge capability and 2048Wh capacity. I have three questions based off of your video:
    1. Would I need one EcoFlow DELTA 2 Max power generator per VS21-MK3 speaker since they have a Class D amp of 2,400W?
    2. Would I need a higher output power generator for the DV12-MK3 since it has a 3,300W amp or since it's not a sub, would it suffice to have the EcoFlow Max 2 generator at 2,400W?
    3. If running the BASSBOSS speakers mentioned above at approximately half their total output, how many kWh's would you expect me to get using the generators listed? Just trying to ensure I wouldn't use up an entire power battery in one hour trying to push a BASSNOSS speaker.
    Thank you!

      Hi Papa Bear,
Hopefully I have some good news for you…
Q1. Would I need one EcoFlow DELTA 2 Max power generator per VS21-MK3 speaker since they have a Class D amp of 2,400W?
A1. Yes, I would recommend you have 2. One generator might run the pair of subwoofers but you'd be pushing its limits, and the other significant downside is you would run the batteries down in about half the time. As the batteries discharge, the heavier draw would compound the potential issues regarding current delivery and battery life.
Q2. Would I need a higher output power generator for the DV12-MK3 since it has a 3,300W amp or since it's not a sub, would it suffice to have the EcoFlow Max 2 generator at 2,400W?
No. The DV12, when used with subs, so in a satellite mode, will draw very little current. Yes, it can deliver lots of voltage and lots of watts but because the frequencies and therefore the durations and impedances are higher, most of the power can be delivered from the amplifiers' capacitor banks.
      3. If running the BASSBOSS speakers mentioned above at approximately half their total output, how many kWh's would you expect me to get using the generators listed? Just trying to ensure I wouldn't use up an entire power battery in one hour trying to push a BASSBOSS speaker.
I can't answer the question directly without doing tests, and those tests probably wouldn't accurately replicate the actual conditions. “Half their total output” is an arbitrary quantity. It could be half their total maximum power, so 3dB below maximum SPL, or it could be half their perceived maximum output, which would be 10dB below maximum. 10dB from maximum would represent about 10% of their maximum power, so very different in terms of power consumption.
Watt-hours or kilowatt-hours are essentially what they sound like, but easily misunderstood. Hour of output at 1 kilowatt is represented as 1 Kilowatt-hour. The good news is that amplifiers draw very little power when averaged over time. Based on a rated output of 2400W, using typical dynamic music content, the expected draw would be 0.25 kWh per subwoofer. With tops, perhaps 0.35kWh… So, if you have ~2000 Watt-hours, that’s 2kWh, and should, in theory, give you about 5 hours of operation, with a bit to spare. Maybe 5.5 with two of the generators. The higher the SPL, the shorter the party BUT with a couple of extra batteries, you should be able to get from sundown to sunrise and beyond…
AND, is your mutant vehicle powered by batteries or by a motor? If your mutant vehicle is running a motor, the alternator could be connected to charge your generator batteries.
I hope that's good news, and I hope to hear your real-world results when you've done some tests…
      Enjoy!

@@DavidLee-BASSBOSS thank you so much for such a thorough response! This is just one of the many reasons that you, your company, and your speakers stand head and shoulders above the rest! I will most certainly send you feedback on how BASSBOSS speakers make my mutant art vehicle stand out from the rest!

Hi Chris, did you not find this helpful? I'll try to put the information together in a different sequence in future videos. This part is the most important to remember: czcams.com/video/gRDstclu5RQ/video.html The generator should have enough "running watts" not peak or startup watts, to run all your subwoofers.
