Can we take a moment to appreciate Alain's writing and voice acting for a bit? While the fact he can marry ANYONE means some of these pairings are super flimsy, the guy just sounds so earnestly romantic that it kind of washes away the doubt
Alain might not always get the hint, but he's an honest and earnest man at heart. Josef raised him right.
What I appreciate is that the game avoids giving any implications to Alain’s preferred type, so you can do whatever you want with him. He can be into the healer from the desert, his own cousin, or a giant bear man if you so desire it.
This is simultaneously the strongest and weakest part. The writing requires him to have the personality of a bowl of reheated oatmeal so fits everywhere yet is categorically unsatisfying, yet the VA sells it HARD which grants at least a degree of legitimacy
Alains VA ist doing a great Job! His"hm" at the start of Fran & " yes please do that" at the end of Celeste are so real!! I Love it.
I like how both Selvie and Gammel lampshade how absurd it is to give the ring to them. You can see the devs going "ok I know we said EVERYONE but what exactly are we supposed to write here?"

Rune Factory does this, too. Especially in the elf romance of rune factory 4, it is the main plot point in the romance.
The elf is at least 100 years and has maybe another 1000 years before her.

I admit, i havent finished the game and was scouting Leah as main bae, but holy fuck Raenys hit hard with that "I love you, Alain." That voice actress nailed it. Oh and Beren was awesome. Miriam gets 4th.

One had to come up with each scenario of how Alain would propose.
The other had to get into character and act out each proposal.
I chose Yahna because she's a key asset to alains' party and because i like the idea of basically marrying purah in another timeline
I was on the fence for this, as there are so many options and pairings I love, but I have to admit Barengaria's Is my fave because she actually Embraces him and kisses him, that makes it feel more romantic to me instead of "A obligation" they have to do.

Still couldn't decide whether to give to Virginia, Berengaria, Eltolinde or Melisandre. I like Virginia's confidence and strong will, Berengaria's carefree and tsundere attitude, Melisandre's boldness and honesty (it's rather rare to have a girl openly admit their affection first), and Eltolinde's sweetness (well this one is rather bold as well in rapport dialogue though more restrained due to her role)
Alain's collecting them all like it's Pokemon.
One of the reasons I love Vanillaware games is because most of them have such heartwarming and wholesome romance. I don't know about you but to me no JRPG is complete without a good love story

my thought process at the moment from min/max standpoint, is Barengaria or Yunifi.
i play the hardest difficulty on my second playthrough. in my first playthrough i picked the "canon" scarlett.
the scenes of yahna and primm makes it harder to pick now. now i have 4 options. dang

play the demo first. it's free, and should give you an idea of if you'll like the game play as well..cause the game is sixty bucks...so...you. Must. Think...before buying.
The game is amazing I've been cracked out doing every single quest and increasing rapport with all the characters.
Play the demo it's a good 5 hours long probably and the progress transfers over if you buy it

I know some of the girls might be better then my favorite choice, but Ochlys is my favorite. she always seemed so brash about things but she also has this passionate side when it comes to her feelings on things.

I'm still torn with who to pick. Virginia and Scarlett are of course game led choices it seems. Melisandre immediately tried to flirt the moment you met her. Berengaria I enjoyed her cut scene and banter. Railanor is my favorite, with Yahna and Selvie, along with the linde sisters. I'm not a furry so I'm not picking the beastrials. I'm really yorn after 80+ hours now, building rapport, maxing everything out, getting early weapons etc etc. a lot of them have ruby and sapphire pendants, those I enjoy using in their respective fire teams.

The most interesting thing to come out is Vanilla ware went so over budget the devs had to use personal funds on this game.
Granted when you consider that almost every single playable character does NOT share an VA at least in English so that’s at least 60 VAs
And most are pretty good too.
And to think about all the rapport conversations for every character (most won't ever see the majority of the Non Alain ones).
