- Welcome back! Here's a comprehensive tutorial on how to start-up, taxi, and take-off in the latest version of the Community DCS A-4E. I referenced the official mod manual and the 1977 release of the A-4E/F NATOPS manual to create an authentic procedures guide. Feel free to share this with anyone who might need help learning the A-4 and stay tuned for more tutorials!

I'm Sport, a real world aviator and content creator with a passion for aviation and combat flight simulations. I don't post nearly as much as I want to, or should, but when I do it'll be mostly of Digital Combat Simulator (DCS), a full-fidelity combat flight sim with study-level replications of combat aircraft ranging from WWII to today. I'm always open to feedback and requests and hope you enjoy the content! - Hry
This guy spawned in an aircraft. ejected. then walked all the way over to the A4 just to record a short 5 second clip for a video lol
dude the amount of detail you put into this, the populated map, shot angles, etc... really great. keep up the great work!
I'm just 30 secs into this tutorial and already overwhelmed by the 80s style videotape entry with the background music. Awesome, thanks.
Immersive and entertaining. Most enjoyable tutorial so far.
I watch almost every content producer for DCS tutorials, and your videos are by far the most thorough and helpful on youtube. Thank you!
Hoooooly shit, this thing is fun to fly! I did not expect it to feel that amazing after having only flown the frogfoot.
This was really well done man. Would be great if you keep this going!
Excellent video content, walking us through and great editing as well. All those camera shots were top notch.
This tutorial is awesome and I can't believe that the A-4 is a free DCS mod, with all of the details and care that has gone into it. Man, keep up the good work because the tutorial is awesome and I would definitely love to see more of these about all the things the plane can do in the future.
Definitely one of the best tutorials I've seen! Hope you do more of these. Kudos!
Great content and editing sir! Congratulations on this awesome tutorial that will be really helpful for both A-4 newcomers as well as rusty old timers like me.
Thank you Sport! This tutorials are what I needed to get my hand on the A4 module. I never got my head around the older version procedures.
You are the greatest DCS tutorial maker, I just downloaded DCS and within an 1 I was airborne shooting guns and doing rolls. Thank you for your great easy to understand tutorial.
Love that you used the 131 skins. When the A-4 first came out I was part of a squad that flew as the 131. Back then there were bugs about spawning on the carrier and AAR, radios and all. Glad that's all working now. Great job on the video!
One of the best videos I have watched. Can't wait for the rest of them. Please keep up the good work.
Great job Sport!! As you know, I'm an old A-4 guy, so seeing such a detailed video on The Scooter is awesome... Keep up the great work..
Great tutorial, looking forward to the next ones. I've shared this with my squadron mates. Keep up the great work, you have a talent.
Your instructions are very complete. You cover details that others overlook because they may be used to it and find useless but I like how you cover everything no matter how insignificant it may seem.
This is the kind of DCS video I like to watch: entertaining but also teaching.
It is very easy to slap a couple cool combat takes together and call it a day.
But to carefully create content with a clear concept, a well-defined objective and painstaking attention to detail is a totally different ball-game.
The final product tells me one thing: you respect your audience.
Well, that respect comes back to you now: liked, suscribed and shared. 👍
Keep up the good work!
This is one of the best tutorial videos I have seen. Thank you for explaining how the systems function in addition to walking through the steps. It is so helpful to understand *why* we are flipping the switches. I'm going to boot up the A-4 tonight :)
Great instructional video….with all of the airfield animations…etc etc….it was just very well done.
One of the best tutorials on CZcams. Congratulations!
I'm not a DCS player but If you had met my uncle he could have astonished by your detailed instruction. He was A-4E Skyhawk pilot in the 80s.
I have no doubt he was an awesome dude too! I hope he got to share some stories with you!
It is amazing how good the A-4E Community Module is. And your Tutorials are also so well made and comprehensive... Great Work, Thank you!
awesome. the highlights on the cockpit tour were really helpful!
Another really well done video. Keep the content coming please!
This is the best tutorial for this aircraft I’ve seen so far, thank you!!
0:35 GENUIENLY LOOKED LIKED REAL LIFE HOLY CRAP
Great vid. You did a fantastic job explaining the bird. I'm going to install it now. Thank you!
Hello I'm new here with the skyhawk mod, installed it yesterday and wow! great part. that's exactly how i love the model, the analog technology and the cockpit view is just fantastic. Many thanks!!! greetings from thailand.
Good video man! My favorite mod!
This is some of the BEST content out there! Well done man! Pls keep it up!!! Brilliant
Well done tutorial, thanks a lot! The very first thing I did after installing the A-4E Mod was put it on a Super Carrier in one of my general training missions. When I started taxiing I nearly ran off the carrier but finally arrived at the cat after 2-3 extra rounds ;D
Best start-up tutorial for the A-4E ❤
Excellent introduction - thank you.
I think you got the best guides ever 😮
That VHS intro is amazing, well done!
I love the time you put into your videos keep it up.
Excellent tutorial. Thanks for the video 😀
Very well put together video, thanks for the help.
Quality content to match a brilliant mod. Thanks.
Thank you for this tutorial! Learned how to cold start, taxi, and fly this plane! Love the detail, editing, and quality! Subbed!
You’re more than welcome! Happy to help and please pass along to anyone else who needs a hand!
@@SportDCS Will do!
beautiful video !! thanx for sharing my friend !!!
Awesome tutorial! Really helpful. Thanks a lot 👍
pretty awesome tutorial. hope to see more content from you
Thank you for making this tutorial video for us.
Very comprehensive and well presented.
Outstanding content, thanks dude!
A4 is my favorite jet of all time. Great time to be into sims.
Hahaha, that 80's intro is worth the attention alone.
Thanks for the 'how to', this helps.
Good tutorial. Earned a sub. Thnx for bringing the A4 to my attention. Will check her out. Keep up the good work!💪
that intro was amazing!
Your detailed information is very very usefull. Thank you for that nice video.
Love this! Excellent choice of music as well if I may say so :D
Fantastic man, would love to see a tutorial on the F86 Sabre in a similar fashion
This video is perfection!
Wow i really love the VHS style intro, this is my kind of dcs video im looking for
Thanks!! Stay tuned, I’m working on one for the weapon systems next!
great video on a great jet ... thx for the work
Great video, thanks :)
Great tutorial
Thanks for making the video this helped a lot.
Nice job on the video! But I noticed 2 things that are wrong. I was a crew chief on A-4s, and we set the pitch trim and half flaps in the chocks before the plane left the ramp.
Great to know! I’ll correct that in the future
dude, massive thanks for this vid!
nice video. can't wait to see some new weapon deployment and action vids
This mod really needs to be officially adopted by ED. It can be DCS's "full fidelity" jet aircraft so there's three distinct types of flight system: tail-dragging full-fidelity (unarmed) propeller/WW2 (TF-51), low fidelity ground attack jet (Su-25T) and a the A-4 as a high-fidelity, carrier-capable attack jet aircraft to give newcomers to DCS a taste of what paid modules - of all types - have to offer. Of course, someone, somewhere has to deal with licensing if it went official and even with the popularity of the A-4, I doubt Boeing (McDonnell Douglas parent company) are really open to just "licensing the dev team for free"...but one can dream.
As far as tutorials for cold and dark start up go, that was pretty easy to watch dude. No long, drawn out explanations of the full start-up checks and, despite there being checks done that aren't really necessary in the DCS environment, it didn't take too long at all. Good job.
It won't be adopted because devs don't want it adopted.
You gonna make this a series ? Because damn, this was pretty good
I’m going to do my best to! Working on episode two as I type!
Wow I loved the intro!! So 80's!!
That intro had a vibe ❤❤❤
Excellent. Thanks.
Love the 80s vibe. Great vid.
Good stuff!
Great tutorial series!!! Just missing the landings (carrier and AF)😊
Awesome tutorial…
finally downloaded it, this plane looks fun
With a nickname "Scooter"?
Yea -- I'd say so.
god I love this video and this plane!
Hi there 👋 As usual, I'm late to the party. Sorry about that 😥I was looking for a a guide to help me start up, etc, etc, the A4. I have flown it a few times but memory and other things are not what they could be. Now, for all I know, I have watched your video before! Still, I have no issue rewriting my sincere thanks for this video. You may well be an IRL aviator but having worked with military aviators it is no guarantee of communication or presentation skills 😆 You, my friend, have both of those in abundance. I loved the whole production and as I have a bit of insight into making a video documentary I know it is not simple. Thank you for this as it is really, really helpful and enjoyable. All the best, Dave (Puffin)
Thank you so much for the feedback! I hope my videos will continue to help virtual aviators such as yourself long into the future
Be great to see a NZ A-4 Project Kahu style Skyhawk mod next…
I love the intro Dude!
Sooo 80's Bad ;)
This module is same if not better than some official ones. They should put it in multiplayer servers.
Well done! "Thank you daddy"
Music Intro! 80's era
i really think this mod should be added to dcs as a free plane so when you download the game this comes with the base game moduel free
I saw and i learned
Well I didn't think I would need help taxiing 😅😅😅😂
Your the new Spudknocker
dude taxiing this aircraft is hard
Wow man, amazing video. Great great. How do you put these crew animation?
Amazing video!, i learned so much from this. at (5:34), i couldn't find any altimeter information on my briefing. so, how do i know the right altimeter option for my altitude radar?. thanks!
Man i love that 80 music at the start, sounds so good and for the plane super well.
What kind of music is that ?
Well done. Please continue with this. Haven't been flying this bird until yesterday when I learned about the latest 2.0 version. And man, it is so much fun.
However I feel completely stupid when it comes to bombing. I can't really grasp the different modes and what to press or not when dropping bombs. So if you ever do an in depth tutorial about that, I would really appreciate it.
P.S Is there any way to lower the volume of that release cue sound?
9:05 Me who's flown taildraggers IRL before. heh heh he heh, AHAHAHAA!!!!!
thank you for an excellent presentation. Did you also make a procedures guide in writing?
I did not, however everything I used can either be found in the A-4E Manual, included with the mod, or in the actual NATOPS manual (It's pretty amazing you can use a REAL manual to correctly operate a mod in DCS!)
Awesome video man. Love the A-4 Mod. The Magnetic corr you made looked like 000.2 Deg. Not 002.0 like it should be. Right?
Yep! Good catch. I’ll correct that in my deeper dive into the nav systems
@@SportDCS Love the new videos man. keep it up
How do you get to the menu to request the ground power from the ground crew?
nice. very helpful. but i think there might be a bug in the special option where you can hit the check box for simplified steering. that doesn't do anything for me. rudder controls have no effects on steering or brakes. am i doing something wrong? also, what setting are you using to bind an axis to brakes? right now i have left and right wheel brake ON OR OFF set to buttons but you seem to have analog control of the brakes. what setting do i need to bind to - i can't seem to find it - and is there something special i have to do to get the effect your getting? previously, when i tried to assign it the rudder paddles on my twcs, it would just brake on one side using left and right rudder inputs on just left side brake. thanks!
AArgh . Its like the jet version of the bf109 . Takeoff and steering using the wheel brakes . I can't tell you how many times Ive crashed during takeoff with that Narrow geared Deathmachine !!!
Hi i'm pretty nex to DCS and I'm trying this mod and making a cold start, but what key do you have to use to have acces to the ground power unit request?
The backslash key opens the radio menu. From there, click (or use the F-key) for ground crew, ground power, turn on!
how do u turn on the gnd like what is the key to request it
Is there parachute to slow down on landing aka drag chut
Where do you see the amount of trim and flaps?
Cool video. I'm new to DCS. Where do I go for even more info.... like, how did you know which switches to do and where they are? Chuck's Guide or DCS tutorial/manuals?? I really want to figure this out and willing to spend time, just not clear yet. And as much as this video tried to do "step by step", there's still stuff that was not explained. Appreciate any guidance.
I've been watching a lot of DCS Sport!!! thx.
A lot of it comes from a lifetime of flying airplanes and flight sims. Then I use resources like Chuck’s Guide, CZcams, or actual flight manuals to figure it out! What did you need clarification on?
@SportDCS appreciate the reply. With the full fidelity cockpit, doing the 20 item cold start procedure just seems like rocket science (?l to someone that hasn't flown real planes. I'm starting with FC3 and today did a "cold start" and takeoff. That seemed pretty approachable but I wonder if there's a checklist by plane that's available. Thx again.
