Sweating through my First Enduro Race - Fox Superflow Mt Joyce 2020

  • With summer just around the corner I had this brilliant idea to sign up for a mountain bike race before things got too hot. I landed on the Rocky Trail Entertainment 'Fox Superflow' series, a season long enduro series spanning up the coast of Queensland.
This was the final race for the season (5 race season) and what drew me to this event was the relaxed format. For any of you that have raced downhill (and probably enduro) you will all be familiar with the pre run butterflies. Lining up at the gates, everyone watching as you mentally prepare yourself... Stressful! This event throws that out the window and lets you go at your own pace with automated timing gates and generous rider gaps, no pre run butterflies. Ride with your mates, ride solo, race all day, do a few casual laps, it's all encouraged and I dig it!
Credit to outerimage.com.au for the rad pictures on the day (as seen in the thumbnail), go support the brands in the banner as they are the ones that fund the photos and events. Shout out to Rocky Trail Entertainment for a well run event, looking forward to the next!

You are a brave man riding in the heat. I try to sneak in a ride just after sunrise if time permits. This is definitely more of a winter sport so looking forward to June already ha ha.
Those tracks look great, I have to make an effort and get out there sometime.
    Thanks for the vid 👍🏻

Love the odd early morning ride in summer, although I'm more of an afternoon rider in the summer months. Mt Joyce is great, plenty of single track to explore, from cruisy greens along the water to gnarly double black drops and chutes! If you go at 3PM you will have the sun setting over the hill so much cooler.

New subscriber and mountain bike rider. Just rides with the kids on mostly flat paved paths at the moment but once I get a bit more confident on the bike and lose the kgs that started me riding a bike in the first place, riding a green trail will be a huge accomplishment. Love the vids and your calm demeanour and chilled voice considering you're hurtling downhill at speeds that would make me shit myself.

We're glad to have you onboard! Singletrack is pretty special but don't feel pressured into hitting the greens to early. I always recommend getting comfortable on gravel pavement and east fire roads. Once you start to get completely comfortable, like you could ride gravel blindfolded, that is when you slowly leap into the greens. But don't forget to bring a mate for encouragement!

I'm surprised they don't have those events out there in winter? I've ridden those in both summer and winter.
Too hot in summer, awesome in winter.

I think they got pretty unlucky with the weekend they ran it with, they admitted that numbers were quite low for the day (due to the heat). I'm keeping an eye out for the 2021 season and hoping they go back out in the cooler months! Yes agreed, would be absolutely beautiful in winter!

Cheers Tris, gave it my best shot in the summer heat! Nowhere near the #1 spot but at least we got some decent footage from it. :)

The chin mount works well, hard work in the heat, well done.

The chin mount was the MVP of the day, keep an eye out for more chin POV in the near future!

Hi mate, that exact race was my first enduro also, I actually spotted myself when you finished your first ride, it was so bloody hot but I had fun doing it,
Hopefully see you at more this year.

Hey Adrian, I can still feel the heat turning my skin red! Great race and well worth the effort though, I'm planning a few more Rockytrail Enduros this year so I hope to see you out there!

    Is this series for anyone?

    • @BicycleCurious
      @BicycleCurious  Před 3 lety

Absolutely Harry! The Rocky Trail Enduro events are incredibly welcoming and chill. Great one to hit up for a first timer. No timed gates, just race down if and when you feel like it (through automatically timed start/finish).
