I am a Mary Kay consultant and your video is spot on. I did buy inventory because I run my business differently than most. I have an in home "store" and my customers know they can come to me and get what they need. I do agree that some directors in this business can be pushy. I have a strong personality so have never felt pushed but can see how that can happen. You definitely have to be passionate about whatever products you are trying to sell. Just wanted to thank you for an honest opinion!

I signed up for MK about 3 mths ago, right after starting a new corporate job. And OMG, I have no time for this MK stuff. I did get some inventory, but thankfully it’s stuff I use, so it’s not a big deal. But, selling MK is all in how much time your willing to put in. I have no time for it. I work full time, have two kids who have after school activities, and a hubby who wants my attention. If you join MK, be prepared to work it like a FT job if you want to actually be successful. I agree, don’t get pressured into purchasing inventory. Pretty much MK’s customers are the consultants, so don’t get sucked down the inventory rabbit hole of debt. Thank you for sharing your story!

I actually had my highest year during COVID! I have been in Mary Kay since 1996. I have learned how to shift my business when life experiences happens. Work your business when you can. Do it in pockets of time. I have recruited and trained to have been a National by now. I love the company I love the products most of all I love the fact that I can introduce this skincare and color to people who need my guidance. I went from working as a Makeup Artist with the Jackson family and I chose to go with Mary Kay, I love the growth over the years and that all my sisters and nieces and my French daughter-in-law can use this line there is something in it for everyone. I watched many CZcams videos before signing up and didn’t invest in inventory except for my first order, I bought what I use and I’ve been using this for a while now and I love the products. I did get the credit card to get the $100 credit and it’s paid off. If you have the ability to work the business to your advantage it can me good. My director never pushed me to buy inventory and I told them I am pretty much doing this as a personal use consultant. I’m slowly getting more into this to sell but I’m such an introvert it’s hard so I’m good with getting my stuff at a discount . I love your videos tho!

Could you please ask the company that why, why, why do they keep discontinuing our favorite fragrances like Genji,Premonition,Anglefire,Avenir,Calais,Affection,etc,etc...and only keeping them out for a year or two before getting rid of it?
Imari by Avon has been around for years, and years why? Became it's a classic, and Chanel No 5 will never be discontinued or Shalimar by Guerlain...there's just some things that you don't do.
And also ask the company Why does the customer only get a piddly amount of body washes, body lotions,or body souffle's except only around Christmas time.
Also please ask the company to reconsider bringing back the good old classics like especially Genji,Premonition,Intrigue and I don't want to forget bur please bring back Acapella and also Affection! Thanks!

I disagree with being pushed to buy inventory. I was never pushed to do this and was actually taught that you could use just samples to sell if needed. I personally invested in inventory and love it for customers who need something in a pinch. This is a Christian company and Mary Kay Ash always believed in God first, family second and career third. They also give to cancer research and women abuse clinics. My daughter recently died from stage 4 colon cancer and I am all in with Mary Kay. I agree it is not for everyone, but don't just listen to one opinion of someone who did not have the time to manage her business. I personally love all the products and just want to help women/men feel their best and take care of their skin.

Idk how you can sit there and say they don’t push you when you get messages if you don’t make that quarterly several hundred dollars inventory purchase you will become INACTIVE. My director knew I couldn’t be pushed but her director texts me EVERY SINGLE DAY and is quick to remind me I haven’t paid for the quarterly inventory pkg and she calls my family member harassing her as well and even had the mf nerve to tell her I thought you make good money oh you broke now??? I told her she should have cursed her out and told her where she can shove her Mary Kay. I’m only still a consultant bcuz they now make the purchases FOR ME with Their Money. You don’t tell me what to do with my money. Whether I cannot afford it or I simply have other Real Life priorities. I DISAGREE with taking huge risks and failing to take care of your real life responsibilities in hopes that ppl will purchase these expensive products from you. I prefer product companies that allow you to sell whenever someone wants to buy and not try to shove it down their throat or penalize you if you don’t get sales. Your status as a consultant is always on the line. Now the company works for some who know how to coerce others.. or who happen to run into ppl who believe in the products or desperate for miraclesbut it’s still TRUE that there is PUSH! I definitely felt Harrassed on a regular basis. Furthermore you don’t tell someone about their experience. It’s subjective. Nobody cares if you disagree, we are listening to Her! You’re just sticking up for the company bcuz you are most likely one of THOSE.

If you want to have a store and keep inventory I suggest building it as you go to keep things on hand for the customers that often reorder. I also don't pressure anyone to join, I shared the opportunity and how it fits my life and how it could fit yours and the benefits but never pressure anyone. I have no doubt there are people who have had a bad experience with a bad consultant that was all about serving themselves and not serving their customers but you can't judge us all by their actions😄

Mary Kay's eye makeup remover always irritated my eyes when I used it. I think I must be allergic to the silicone that's in the MK eye makeup remover, and it made my eyes red and watery. I use Walmart's Equate brand oil-free eye makeup remover, and it's fantastic; shake it (just like you would with MK's EMU), pour it on a cotton pad, apply it to the eye makeup, and it removes all of the eye makeup quickly and cleanly with no irritation. Plus, there's more product in the Equate bottle and it costs less than MK's eye makeup remover! One bottle of Equate EMU remover costs me $7.97 at Walmart stores in Canada, and the MK EMU remover costs $20 CAD.

Full time consultants need different inventory levels as part time or personal use/hobby consultant
In 80's ( I have been MK customer for 42 years) Mary Kay Ashe wanted consultant to be able to keep one of everything in stock. Not possible in 2024. Yet Skin care set then was 1 set that retailed for $56. The amount of money to be made in skin care sets today is mind blowing

I couldn't make myself throw a Facebook party and I learned that team leaders in the "MLM Cult" can be snobby and will only act like your "sister" if you're doing well in the business. Also, I couldn't get anyone interested in the products. They would say it's too expensive, yet they would pay the same prices at bath and body works. You also have the competing companies, like Pure Romance, that people who "can't afford" your product will blow their money on in a heartbeat. Because sex is more exciting than pampering products. 🙄

Part of the beauty of Mary Kay is having a passion for the products and even if you’re new to an area that’s a great way of meeting people. You’re a lovely person & I wish you all the very best 💖

I tried Mary Kay and I loved it when I washed my face with the 3-D cleanser. I thought "Where has this been all my life"...My director was really getting pushy for me to buy inventory by the end of the month. So much so that I started thinking that I didn't want to get involved anymore and I was so excited. I am an adult. I am smart. I instantly knew buying inventory was a dumbass decision. So....it's been 6 days and my director was so mad I didn't order inventory she hasn't text me or called me and before that she was on the phone with me every single day. She is shameful in my opinion. She talked about the Lord all the time and she talked over and over about being religious. She's sold MK for 48 years. She is the master manuiliplator.

I am so sorry you experienced that! I have been a Mary Kay consultant for 20 years & can honestly say I have never had a pushy director (I have had 2 different ones). As a Team Leader, I refuse to be pushy. My director encourages, teaches, coaches, and celebrates me. I do the same with my team. That is the way to build your business. Pushing & causing hard feelings and debt cause heartbreak and lack of enthusiasm. Mary Kay built this company on great values, but some people get carried away and don’t follow those values….. like people in every other aspect of life 🥲

WOWWW, sorry you had that experience. Inventory is not a requirement. But consider this, if you saw a dress that you wanted to purchase from Macy's &" they asked you to place an order & the dress will be in 2 weeks". You left Macy's & saw the same dress in Dillard's. Would you wait 2 weeks for the dress to come to Macy's? The answer is "no". Plus you do not have to buy large amounts of inventory. People use other people's money. Show your catalog to friends & family, ask them to support you. When you get $600, place your first order. Don't forget to add the tax & shipping. Hope this help. Just remember if one argues for their limitations, they get to keep them ❤ .

I guide my team to use the business income to finance the business, just like any business. Just like any business, too, there's always an upfront investment. I suggest ordering what you like and the basics, what you can use for demo or best sellers. That is also dependent upon what they want. Do they want to build a business, a little more investment is needed upfront than if it's going to be more for you and a small group of family and friends. Whatever your initial investment, work very fast, in the beginning, to get your momentum going. Action overcomes fear and fear is the biggest self-employment killer, no matter what business you have. Hope you were able to move what inventory you wanted to and are happy, now. I love my business but there are hard times, just like with a job or any other business. Good luck!

Right now I use the products myself, and show off looks and stuff. I don’t know if it will go anywhere, but I love the makeup and skincare, so I definitely recommend trying them. I tried to find a Mary Kay consultation in my area but I just couldn't,and so I buy alot of my Mary Kay (plus Avon, etc, etc fragrances online!) And I like buying it online also.
Also (which is very frustrating) is that they put out a popular fragrance like Genji,Premonition,Intrigue,Angefire Elige,etc,etc..and then they discontinue it right away not even 2 or 3 years after it comes out!...and also with Affection was only out for like 2 years (if even that long) and then boom! it was gone.
Now like Avons Imari for instance reminds me of Genji or Premonition,Intrigue so yes I love to buy online especially because I don't want to pay $70 to $80.00 or more for illuminea which isn't 3.4 oz bottle or even a 2 ounce bottle..only 1.6 oz bottle and it's only limited edition? But why make it a limited edition? (it's a beautiful fragrance) or but they have Belara or Bellla Belara out (which isn't that good btw in my opinion) and they were have have been out for several years!
And also I heard that Intrigue is one of Dolly Partons favorite fragrances and fan's still send her bottles of it when they can find it.

Fair review. I fell for the inventory, now I’m stuck with hundreds of dollars…maybe even over a thousand…that I can’t get rid of. My fault. I got sucked in to “I need to be faster than Amazon”. I have tried everything to heavily discount and no one wants it. The piece that I was hoping you’d mention is the $225 wholesale basically every other month (quarterly = lies) to stay active. That was hugely misleading. So now I’m stuck in this “active” hell so that I’m able to fill orders and CDS them to customers if any of my few remaining customers happen to place an order. I cannot afford to keep going, but I don’t want to disappoint my few diehard customers.

@@pambaumgratz4408 Thanks for your passion. Comments are based on a person’s perception. My personal perception is that placing a $225 order December 26 starts the clock and counts as A1 status for “Month one” even though it’s technically the end of the month. January a consultant would be A2 status. February would be A3 status and a consultant would have until February 28 to place another $225 order to keep the 50% discount. If a $225 order is not placed by 2/28, the consultant goes into I1 status (Inactive month 1) on March 1. Therefore, I personally interpret this as a $225 order must be placed “every other month” (I.e., December and February) to remain in active status. That may not be how others see it, but that is how I view the active status model.

I was a consultant. I was told I did not need to buy inventory. My red jacket leader invited me to her unit meeting. I loved her Director. But, I already had a small business and I cared for my Mom, driving Mom to Dr's appointments, etc. I struggled with my very first order and my Director was pressuring me to get more sales, book faces, and call my friends and family to book parties. She had an instruction book she put together. I took my time and became familiar with the products. I bought samples when I could. My Director bought samples that we used at meetings. I had problems making the required amount you had to spend every 2 months to become a Director. My Director merged with another Director and things went downhill from there. The other Director was a mean girl. She mocked, laughed at, criticized and belittled people under her and guests who had come to the parties. The other Director even earned a MK car. I was unhappy with her behavior. I complained to my Director. The ladies under the other Director also complained. I was blown off. Finally, the Senior Director was informed how the other Director didn't follow through when her consultants earned prizes by having top sales. My Director and the other Director made a comment that I felt was directed towards me. The next week my Director said people weren't buying from me because I didn't have an inventory. I refused to take out a loan or credit card and purchase thousands of dollars of inventory. My Director wanted me to work 10 hours a day and I couldn't. I got upset and I quit. A year later she reached out to me and apologized. She said I was 100% right about the other Director. They parted ways, but not before a lot of consultants quit.

I just tried samples today with a zoom video. Used to sell the products a long time ago. Nice stuff! Won’t be a consultant but will use the products. I have learned the art of saying no.

I had to learn the hard way! Still love their products and kept the consultant account so I could get the discount. Found someone who doesn’t push me to do more and it’s worked out so much better for me!

One thing I don't understand why keep inventory when people can shop from your website. I only buy inventory of things that I use.

  • @suedamhesel3015
    @suedamhesel3015 Před rokem

I was never "pushed" to buy inventory. They have a 90% buy-back guarantee on all unopened products. Just like any other business, you have to work to succeed. MaryKay has unit meetings and adoptee groups. It sounds like your recruiter did not supply you with proper info. I know of many groups in the DFW area.
It's a shame you didn't spend more time with it. I think you would have been amazing and a great success

Thanks for sharing. I get where you are coming from and truly understand what you conveyed in your video. You nailed it when you stated you have to love the product. I found out inventory does pay off if you are are able to create the selling environment you need to make a profit. I just believe in God so much that what ever I do that is right and honest God will provide and he does. I am so grateful for your opinion because when I am speaking to people about joining MK I now know the key words to listen to that indicates that person is not a good fit for my Team. I would only want inspiring women who have a purpose to do better for themselves and truly understand corporate job working 9-5 may not be a good option for them.

I am so glad that what I intended came across. I am no way "bashing" the company; I think it's a great option for many and MANY have been successful. I just think the timing and passion wasn't there and I think it's important for someone to think about those things before they dive in like I did. I still use and purchase MK products because I do truly believe their skincare is amazing, it's just not what I'm passionate about. Thank you so much for watching and I wish you all the best in your future success. God bless!

Aw you can send the inventory back and get 90% of your money back. You’ll never be able to get in again but at least you get most your money back! I love your honesty. I’m just starting out on CZcams but have been a consultant for 10 years. I have a small tiny inventory.

You are SO right on! I’d love info on makeup from another brand. I go sucked in to buying inventory. My banker told me about the scam after I bought inventory. I went to an Estée Lauder store and tried their foundation and eye makeup and hated the removal of it - I had not used anything for several years. I appreciate you sharing what you liked about mk skin care and will try it.

Hey there, I actually renewed my consultancy under MK in order to get the discount. So if you’re looking to order under someone, let me know! I’m not “actively” selling it (like focusing on getting clients, etc) but I have a website and have a few customers that order under me cause they don’t want to get hassled.

  • @quiantellaleblanc6226

I started doing Mary Kay about 4 mths ago. I really like being a Mary Kay consultant, but my problem was that Mary pockets most of the money you make on your website. So that's a problem, if I'm making a lot of sales but Mary Kay pocketed most of the money. So that was not for me.

    • @herasmarket
      @herasmarket Před rokem

You need to think outside the box -- you need to have your own website -- how can you sell Mary Kay without dropping her name -- get a box that says Mary Kay on it -- display your product with that -- you have to be creative here -- screw MK's website. Become an influencer like the gal above only sell your products -- I'm surprised she isn't doing it -- or have a landing page.

I'm supposed to be signing up to be a consultant Sunday and I've been kind of on the fence about it. I do nails I'm a nail technician but I wanted to do makeup as well but unfortunately they do not offer a program where you get to do nails and makeup unless you do cosmetology. I don't want to do hair so I decided just to do the nail class but I love the fact that I get to learn about makeup now. Skin care regimens I really am interested in the skin care lines with Mary Kay. So those are going to be my first purchases

If you buy anything do it after you become a consultant -- that way you get credit and it's half off -- do it though before there end of the year which is June -- if you just want to sell makeup and not recruit -- that's the way you do it. I don't sell everything -- just the top five or six products.
