Makes me a bit homesick, E230th Street. Seeing the Jamaican Bakery on E226th Street #priceless

Wow, It's been about 60 years since I've been here. I lived on 226 th st and Bronxwood ave. Went to Olinville jr high, then to Bronn Vocational HS. ( Alfred E Smith). Took that train every day. I did not see the Laconia or Wakefield movie theaters I use to go to, probably long gone! Thanks for the memories.

Not the same White Plains Rd I grew up with. We used to walk from Gun Hill Rd to 241st St. The only store I recognize is Blinking Genie 🧞‍♂️ Is it the same owners??? I knew them. So many furniture stores. We had 1…. Fasciglione’s on 222nd St … I saw lots of hair salons too. We had the 47th Pct on White Plains Rd before they moved to 229th near Edenwald Projects. We had bakeries, jewelry stores, beauty parlors, barber shops, banks, butchers, fruit and vegetable stores, candy stores, Funeral parlors, Movie Theater, Miss Vicky’s Dance Studio, Evander Sweet Shop, John’s Bargain Store, 5 & 10 Woolworth’s….so much variety…. We had a shoe maker!!!! Dry cleaner, tailor, shoe stores. Restaurants, bars, Pool Room, and plenty of pizza shops. We walked to Olinville JHS 113. Some kids got off the train at 219th St and walked to 216th and Barnes where the school is. We had nightclubs too. Fantasy East on 241st St , Act III, Ricky’s Amber Inn.
Interesting video…. Brought back so many memories of growing up in that neighborhood. The Road Diet is disturbing.
    Thanks for the tour.
