This movie fucked me up as a kid. I think there was a scene where the dude that was buried in cements feet were sticking out into the garage or something and one of the dudes took an ax an chopped them off. 😳 it's was bloody and scared me.

Chopped it off and put it in his suitjacket pocket if memory serves 😂That's one of the most memorable scenes for me too, though I loved this movie, saw it in the theaters when I was eight. Mom and I loved Creature Feature on Saturdays and we watched all kinds of scary movies. I see it's billed here as a "comedy horror", I've never thought of it that way (comedy) lol. Do you remember Trilogy of Terror? Another one (that one was on television!) that I've never forgotten. It's on YT and I watch it on Saturdays now and again. So great to revisit these things.

That's exactly the part I remember. He put the foot in his suitjacket pocket. That has stuck in my mind since 1974. My parents would have NEVER let me watch that movie, but I was sleeping over at my cousins house who had HBO, and literally no supervision.

Same. We were just kids, and it came on HBO or something. Absolutely not a comedy, I remember being very freaked out by the slow drowning of a man in liquid cement. And yet, we watched it a few times.

This movie played on HBO all the time when I was a kid. I love this movie. When I found it on VHS tape in a movie rental place in the 80s I copied it and I still have it and watch it

Mattie (Paula Trueman) was almost totally blind when the movie was filmed which explains her creepy stare in all of her scenes. And the squeaky wheel on her cart was as effective as the double basses at the beginning of "Jaws". You heard the squeaky wheel and you knew she was coming!

The cheesy circus music kinda ruins this trailer. 👎 The actual film doesn't have that happy-go-lucky tone to it.

Just what I added to the comments at the top of the page! GOOD! I would never have dipped my toe, if I had to suffer that goofy music. I like my satire dark and creepy with eerie comic overtones! But if you slap some Benny hill-esque music over the top, you've lost me!

I watched this one Shudder. It's a really good, underseen little film. I think the trailer does it a disservice; if the wacky music is played in sincerity, it's hiding that it's actually a much sadder movie, though there's definitely humour. If it's counterpoint as irony... it still doesn't quite work because the film isn't THAT dark. But it is a wicked little satire about treatment of the elderly that is sadly evergreen. If there's one problem for me, I don't care for the last shot. I get they wanted to end with a fun surprise but I just don't think it's a choice that works in the narrative for me. But overall, it's a great film that feels like a low budget Alfred Hitchcock Presents episode.

agree 100 percent. It's really disappointing they tried for "wacka wacka comedy" with the trailer because the movie is actual so good and much darker. I'm guessing they didn't have a clue how to market it.

I remember watching this with my parents as a kid. I don't remember it being the tiniest bit funny.

  • @dextertheragdollcat213

The blu ray is now out. Picture quality is good on close-ups but overall very average, mostly soft in detail and murky/muted but it's great to finally have this on disc.

Theatrical trailer of Homebodies is a different kind of comedy horror film, can make people laughing with the silly scenes of senseless violence! 😄 😂

Is this played straight? Or does the goofy music pop up all through the movie? Without the music, this could be an entertaining and dark satire. The music reminds me of Benny Hill. I doubt I'd make it through the film if it's goofball. Not my bag at all!

    • @mothinhead8903

The goofy music isn't in this movie. It's darkly humourless but otherwise played straight enough.
