    I dont care if it's mostly BMW or not. Ive driven the auto and manual versions of this car and loved every second of both of them. The Supra is just a fast, fun sports car. All the hate needs to end. The car wouldn't exist if it wasnt for the partnership between the 2 companies, so i for one am happy they made it.

      It would have existed and would have been greater as a fully built Toyota. Examples of very limited production, ground up builds that are market specific are the GR Yaris and Corolla. Both cars MSRP about the same as 4cyl. MK5. Amazing what Toyota can actually on its own huh

      @Monelleo1 Toyota has stated many times that the only feasible finacial way to make this car was a partnership to share R&D costs. I don't disagree with you that it could have been better/cooler if it was fully Toyota developed. Butttttt it's not. And it's still a good car.

      gr86 has relaibility problems , or it mayve been subaru, but both cars very similar. dont need a grmn version because itll be heavy and the whole point is to have fun with lightweight becaue its more agile, easy to control, tires brakes fuel etc last longer and cheaper... supra is enough for the crazy grmn type cars, and i guess they coudl maek all wheel drive version too. gr corolla is similar deal as gr86 but with better sound and all wheel drive high torque everyday driving, not really easy to make for high speed because weight is high abve ground, and engien size is small . what we need is a reduced power steering car where we can feel grip limit and weight shifting aronund more by seats and chasis structures, as a low end sport package with no power upgrade, especially in small cars .... so its more about preserving momentum instead of relying so much on regeneratiev braking to for less fuel use, brake wear, possibly not any more tire wear, lubrication and thermal liquid use,, etc. there can also be lightweighting by gettign rid of stuff made for emotional feeling of quality strudiness , extra quietness and non bumpines, etc, to the extent user wants, and options can be swapped at dealership. there can be switch to modify ow much bumpy ride is wanted in exchange for preservng more momentum around turns. toyota lexus lc500 already had suspension modification knob on the suspension head, toyota kdss active anti roll bar already exists for bigger cars, toyota tacoma trd recently got seats with adjustible shocks at least for driver, so he can have a more communcative chassis if he wants while everyone else can have less bumpy ride. there can also be a electric assited tubro option for power increase, but again, the theme is to spend more money to reduce chemical toxicity and sustianbility of product while enjoying driving more because there are these harmonies of interests between driving fun and these goals. its a uniue type of greenwashing that is enjoyable in a way and actually honest, unlike anything marketed in car world. similar car modification culture is already a popular thing especially with cheaper cars aftermarket, and its likley that most people, especially potentual loyal customers, could value such a class of car because its much more practical. there are youtubers like tom nelson , suspicious observers, magnetic reversal news, tony heller etc that explain the ccliamte change idea , annd youll realize its not what electric car peopel say it is, and even if it was electric cars are wasteful, a small vairable fuel combustion powering pressurized fluid(gas or liquid) and or with supercapictor support or small battery support, could run optimally as turbine or piston converting linear piston energy to useful energy or the INNengine explained recenrtly on youtube channel called "driving 4 answers" ... these things probabyl woudl be best if running on biodiesel , hyrogen , propane, e fuel etc and theyd power reccylable electric motor liek what mahle was talking about making and it woudl be paired to transmission like toyota prius or subaru wrx high torque cvt, or hyundai ioniq hybrid automatic clutch type transmission

It also runs into the issue of room in the engine bay. The M3, M4, and the other M SUVs that have the S58 have much larger engine bays. The B58 takes up a ton of room in the Supra, especially with BMW's tilted design for all their engines. If people really want an S58 powered Supra, the easiest thing they can do is buy one from a wrecked M car and make it fit. Which is questionable if it would fit, considering the placement of the intercooler rests on the intake side of the block, need for double the intake piping, all the design aspects of B58 vs S58. I would love to see that swap done, but an S58 powered Supra isn't worth the R&D for Toyota or BMW for it to be a special edition for a single year at the end of the MK5's life cycle

    Correction: S58 is not co-developed by Toyota. Just like the B58 is also not co developed by Toyota. It was Toyota who wanted these engines from BMW. Toyota just made some changes to mapping and power delivery to the Supra’s B58.

    • @anthonymaldonado8018
      @anthonymaldonado8018 Před 3 měsíci

      I think co-developed is a strong suggestion. I would say Toyota had heavy influence on the Supras B58 because they have to protect their reliability track record. Toyota did take the B58 and put it through the ringer and had BMW build it to "Toyota"spec. That is about all i know from the partnership. I mean look up Mike botti, he is a tuner that has gotten B58s all the way to 900whp before breaking something. that alone should say something about the engine build.

    • @nnr3
      @nnr3 Před 3 měsíci

      @@anthonymaldonado8018 Toyota had heavy influence on the Supra but not the powertrain side. Toyota had a lot more input on the body and handling/driving dynamics. Things like bushing and spring-rate stiffness, handling balance, body rigidity. Body rigidity is a big one, the Supra's body is so rigid that it's actually closer to the Lexus LFA than the Z4.
      On the powertrain side, the idea of an engine like the B58 engine has existed within the BMW long before the development of the Supra even started. B58 was the main thing Toyota wanted from BMW. BMW made the B58 so good (probably to impress Toyota) so Toyota didn't have to do major revisions on the hardware side of the whole powertrain, just some fine tuning and calibration adjustments to separate it a little bit from the Z4.
      I know the internet people are creating a narrative that everyone is understating Toyota's role in the development of the whole platform but it's actually the other way around. People (especially JDM fanboys) are not giving BMW enough credit for their role on that platform.

    Interesting, isn't it, that Toyota and BMW collaborated on the Supra/Z4 platform and suddenly, BMW has produced its most reliable engine in history - the B58. They have never admitted publicly that there was input from Toyota, but show me another 8 yr old BMW (B58 started selling in the 340i in 2015 as a '16 model year) with any of their other engines that still ranks as "far above average" reliability in Consumer Reports. All B58 and B58TU equipped BMW's have been very reliable, which is a shock. The Toyota connection is the only explanation.

    I know Toyota is trying to do more of their sports car in-house. But what if they utilized their relationship with Mazda and made a Supra from their new straight-six? All dependent on Mazda making a new MX work out too of course, but that won’t be so bad right? Mazda can break German oligopoly on sport touring coups and maybe a convertible?

      Is far too new to really use and the tech on it is up there. Plus it hasn't been inherently long since they brought it out yet so they'd understandingly wouldn't want to use it since it's so new vs the engines being ran in the mk5 as is rn including all the advantages they have over mazdas I6 especially in terms of power.

      I think they should partner with Yamaha, give them the G16E engines and make a 3.2 Inline 6. Also let the Supra share the same platform as the production “GR GT3 Concept” (“LFR”). Sure it’ll be a hundred thousand dollar car but 🤷‍♂️. Just have the next gen “86” go up in price (with performance and etc.) and have a new “MR2” or “Celica” become the new entry level sports car.

      @@farooki8021 then that'd defeat the purpose of the 86 being their low end sportscar that's supposed to go against the miata and etc. They more or less aren't changing that anytime soon either that they may as well just make a new chassis for a car with all that but even then they'd just ditch that idea and make it a EV since everything's going to be hybrid or ev later down the line with almost every toyo model once 2030 comes around.
