    Training any human or animal to stay in one spot (especially little humans) has to be one of, if not the hardest thing to train 🤣

    I put a short perch in every cage door. My birds learn easily that they have to go to that perch to come out, go in and it’s where they have to go to get their treats during the day. I got 3 birds for my birthday last year and it took less than a day to teach them perch.

    My little green cheak used to bute and attack anytime i was near, we made drastic changes to literally everything, food, sleep, cage layout, and i spend time with him every day. Now he steps up, he flies to me on command, and we have started learning spin plus he lets me give him scritchs. All the stuff we do i learnt from bird tricks and they work wonders.

    Bruh this is my problem with my sun conure sally. She clings to me like a baby it’s cute but it can be annoying and dangerous like when I’m cooking. She follows me to take a shower, a nap, when I gotta use the bathroom etc.And she doesn’t like when other people come near me, she becomes aggressive. She’s 2 years old. I wish you guys would come to the Bronx.

    Good morning this is Bob in Connecticut and I do have 2 conures. Yes my green cheek his name is Spidey he is always on me I don’t cage any of the birds but I do have an albino cockatiel that does not have the power of flight right now so when I go to sleep I cage him. Spidey goes in the medicine cabinet on the top shelf in the bathroom when he goes to sleep otherwise he is always on my shoulder all day long he likes to bite on my ears and my neck. He is my best friend. Yes he is clingy but I love that.

    Hey Jamie and Dave love your videos! I was wondering if you could do a video on how to get your conure to stop biting. I have a 7 month old male pinnapple green cheek and he’s usually the sweetest except when I have my nails done. Even if they are just painted he gets really angry and bites super hard I’m not sure what to do. Help please!

    • @mimthyss
      @mimthyss Před 2 lety

      Don't get your nails done.. hehe. Jokes aside, is it the colour of them? Or does he still do it with clear coloured nails? Does he bite them when you're trying to pet him with them or when you ask him to step up? Is he scared of them? Maybe you could do some desensitisation training with fake nails that aren't attached to your hand, rewarding for calm and slowly expanding his comfort zone in small approximations, sort of like in this video! Except you'd be slowly putting them closer rather than further away, haha. Or, if he ONLY reacts to them when they're on your hand (but shows no reaction when they're unattached, i.e. just laying on the table near him) then you could still cautiously try the same thing. Usually bites only happen when we aren't reading their body language and signals.. for the bird, their subtle communication probably feels super obvious so they get frustrated when we seem to ignore them, but we just have to pay close attention to see it and ensure they don't feel the need to bite!

    I really really would like to teach my caique to station.You know how crazy caiques are Jamie, right? Lol!I have 2 caiques, a 5 year old male (Ozzy)and a 5 month old baby female (Lola) Ozzy is very hyper at times, like right now. He keeps flying on to my head, very roughly. Or he's very clingy. Is it ok to fly them away yourself with a little push? I do that when he won't leave me alone. I really got a lot out of your video. Thank you. I plan on starting to work on this tomorrow. I hope I can be consistent. I deal with pain so it's hard everyday.❤️

A little consistent training goes a long way! Nice to hear back from you. Look after yourself and your caiques! ❤🐦

    • @michelehemlokhexwhite4310
      @michelehemlokhexwhite4310 Před 2 lety +1

      Re pushing them away with your hand.... I do this for boomerang flights, and recall straight back, but to get a bit of peace, I'd be encouraging stationing and targeting away to a play area, like a foraging setup, a tree with toys or play stand. If you regularly rotate toys, and make or buy new ones, it helps keep their attention. I pick up fallen bark on my walks, bake it in the oven at 60c for awhile to remove pests and pathogens, and mine will shred that for hours.

    Less clingy? I wish mine were a little more clingy, lol! It's been ~1 year and while he does like to scream for attention, he does not love hanging out with us too much.
