    Hello Kirk, did you use the regular T7 or the Shield one? Did you manage to use all available codecs ? Thanks!

    Lovely footage of course °¬) Loved the grade too!
    I use a variable ND on my P4K and have done so for 3+ years - it's super easy, I don't even think about it now, it's just automatic to me like changing aperture and focus (all with my left hand on the fly). Once you're free from worry about built in NDs it means you have more camera choices. I'll be getting the new Pyxis as soon as I can save up for it to pair with my P4K. The future with BMD cameras is so good!

      Thankyou and nice! I’m keen to give rotating VNDs a go, which one do you use?

    • @JonasStuart

      @@DesignedbyKirk I just use K&F (K&F Concept 82mm Variable ND Filter Adjustable Fader Neutral Density ND2 - ND32 Filter, NO Spot X Black X Issue, MRC 28-Layer, Ultra Slim, Waterproof) I've used them since day one with the P4K and find them to be really good. If you're using a matt box you need one that you can add filters after the matt box (I use the Smallrigh mini mattbox pro) - and it can be a little bit of a pain if you're using other filters (like black pro-mist etc) but my mattbox pops off super easy if I need to adjust ND with a 4 x 5.65" filter in place.
      I do have my eye on the nisi matt box with VND built in - probably the best options I've seen but it's not cheap. At some stage I'm going to get the new Pyxis so the Nisi option would pair really nicely with that °¬)

    • @DesignedbyKirk
      @DesignedbyKirk  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yeah interesting, I'll go and check those out for sure! I I used a cheap K&F filter at the beginning of this testing that I didn't mention, because the image circle wasn't large enough. But you're right the Nisi C5 matte box looks to be the best of the best, although I believe Kondor Blue is also coming out with one soon. Lot's of options to chose from!

    • @JonasStuart
      @JonasStuart Před 2 měsíci

      @@DesignedbyKirk Yeah, I actually have two VNDs that work across my main four lenses - but I use a step down ring to put one of them on my widest lens and it's fine but probably won't be on a full frame camera!
      Yeha, you know with the Nisi that there won't be any colour cast or anything but I've filmed countless client jobs (and not enough personal projects!) with the K&F VNDs and love them - and if you scratch it, it's cheap to replace.
      (Subbed btw)

    • @DesignedbyKirk
      @DesignedbyKirk  Před 2 měsíci

      100% - yeah I'd definitely find a VND that's been previously tested on an opengate full frame even, just to make sure. very true!

      @DesignedbyKirk  Před 2 měsíci

      Cheers! Yes I’ve used Filmbox, Dehancer and Filmconvert in the past. I’d say about 50% of the clips here are Filmbox, but most of the grade takes shape with seperate nodes

    Have you considered trying Kipon's EF-L speed booster with the 6k FF? Allows you to shoot 4k 60fps 17:9 with extra stop of light and better rolling shutter around 15ms while still maintaining FF coverage.

    @heartshapedfilms Před 2 měsíci

    What about power and battery life. if this shot 48fps in open gate and had prores I'd probably jump on it, I live without internal NDs atm but would also be sweet. Also does the new Pyxsis sway since making this?

    • @DesignedbyKirk
      @DesignedbyKirk  Před 2 měsíci

      Exactly the same as the 6K Pro, 45 min per battery to 1 hour. I’m considering the Pyxis but keeping in mind they’re the same camera. Just different bodies

    • @heartshapedfilms
      @heartshapedfilms Před 2 měsíci

      @@DesignedbyKirk agreed they would make a great A/B combo in my opinion. The pyxis I think offers more for me as I shoot weddings handheld. Though braw is a bit of an issue and the fx6 is probably a similar price was all said and done. Though the idea of open gate feels more worth it

    • @DesignedbyKirk
      @DesignedbyKirk  Před 2 měsíci

      I'm not too familiar with the FX6 I must say, nor am I with wedding cinematograhy. But I can imagine no IBIS and BRAW could be tough to get over veruses some of the peace of mind / ease features of the FX6. I'd say the opengate is worth it if you want to create a certain look, or especially if you want to deliver and charge for in multiple formats

  • @junaidcg

    mate you just need to buy drop in filter system between lens and sensor, with whatever mount you have. This is much more versatile than built in nd filter because you loose the flange distance in builtin means your can't adapt many lens.

      Best is Meika with drop in ND slot style, Fotodiox vnd is almost have with any mount but keep in mind with fotodiox they always have minimum 1 stop ND means you need to always have any cheap smart or dummy adapter as well with whichever mount you’re going for.

      @@heartshapedfilms the ef mounts, to go with EF cine lenses

    • @DesignedbyKirk
      @DesignedbyKirk  Před 2 měsíci

      Yeah it's a hard call! I wouldn't go with EF, it's a bit out-dated imho moving forward. Either PL or L I think is the way to go. I'd consider the L mount for now, as I can always adapt to a locking PL on top of that, plus it's a bit cheaper. Decisions, decisions! Ultimately, that choice should just come down to what lenses you anticipate yourself using
