Penny's Big Breakaway looks like an obscure 3D platformer for the Gamecube from 2002, and I mean that in the best way possible.
gonna play it at 480p with a gamecube controller for maximum ???
12:57 NOOOO YOU JUST GAVE ME FLASHBACKS FROM PLAYING THIS ON MY XBOX 360 IN LIKE 2020 LMFAOOOOOO
Never heard of Doritos Crash Course, but I've always loved games that are better than they have any right to be, and it definitely sounds like it fits the bill.
Also, very cool to see you cover Dustforce! Game's super underrated and needs all the love it can get.
Doritos Crash Course was awesome to see here, that game was huge with my friend group when it came out, and I blasted through it in the Sonic Avatar skins that had just come out from Generations and would just dominate my friends, loved the level design and physics. Crash Course 2 wasn't quite as good as the first, but you just don't weird games like that out of nowhere these days - it and the old 1 vs 100 game from the 360 days were just great wee things to get on Xbox back then.
Another cool seemingly fast king of platformer that hasn’t released yet I’d recommend to keep on your radar is “the big catch” if you haven’t heard of it (also has grapple abilities)
I told myself "woaw this looks great" but I already have this on my Steam wishlist lol
Thanks for featuring Fist of the Forgotten! It's definitely a delicate balance of getting players to learn the crazy slide and jump mechanics in a way that's not overwhelming but also not making it boring for the people it clicks with sooner. Definitely going to be a lot of intense momentum-oriented action!
Looking forward to it.
This man REALLY doesn’t wanna talk about Sonic Colors. 😅🤣
“Forget the official releases, just play quality fan-games! :) “
Doritos crash course was a real nostalgia hit, I remember playing it on xbox 360 since it was free.
There's "Mochi A Girl" and "Meril Kururinchi" which take the rope mechanics from umihara kawase and let's you converse your momentum like a classic sonic game.
Hey, are you sure the title for the second game is right? Can't seem to find it.
Always appreciate these dense and well curated lists of games to check out! Summer sale timing couldnt be better
Quite a *COLORFUL* collection of games on display here. They're so varied and different from each other that it almost looks like a bunch of attractions in an *AMUSEMENT PARK...*
... in *SPACE...*
I'm actually curious to know how do you play so many games, I can barely finish one game of each "big franchise" from different generations but you seems to play even the more obscure games, fangames and such, I suppose you're an adult with a good amount of responsibilities in your daily life so I'm really curious to know if you have some kind of mindset that helps you play so many games, how much time you spend playing and such...
I only played each of these for a few minutes to get footage. And most of them I played years ago. It's also a lot easier to make time for games when you can make money off of them with CZcams videos lol.
I work less now to have time to get footage and make videos. I'm hoping this can become my fulltime job one day. Then I'll have tons of time for games. That's how I was cranking out so many videos a few months back. I took a break from work to focus on the channel and help it grow. So it was pretty much all I was doing.
@@Pariah6950 I see, thanks for the quick reply! I hope you can achieve this in the future
Much respect to you for recommending Doritos Crash Course. I sincerely love seeing diamonds plucked from the rough
The King's Bird is such an underrated game, loved the hard and innovative gameplay, also the sound design and aesthetic is great, it makes dashing from walljump to walljump and flying down and then up so satisfying
Dustforce is literally the most underrated video game of all time
8:39 The King’s Bird flight reminds me of the Wing Cap power up in Mario 64, kinda, but expanded upon. Also a game I think Sonic fans would/have already enjoyed are the Fancy Pants Adventures games, they’re so good even if each of them are short. I really like World 2, 3, 1 Remix and Super.
Doritos Crash Course, how you described it, reminds me of the game Miles and Kilo
Peak CZcamsr
Dustforce is unbelievably good
Heck yeah, more people talking about Siactro! The Toree games are quite good fun.
Me and my friends FUCKING LOVE TOREE!!!
Same
I'm a bit confused on how many Toree games there are outside of Steam
Doritos Crash Course looks like Radical Highway.
Great video, definitely games worth checking out.
This is unrelated to the topic but I didn't get to say it when your Advance 3 video dropped: Doing any type of attack in the air with the B button will disable the roll lock whick makes Knuckles and Amy's partnership even more fun.
Toree 3D and all Siacro Games are good and have a secret lore
13:00 damn hitting me with that 360 nastalgia
Just remembered of Bunny Hill. It is another good unknown 3d physics based game about time attacking and snowboarding that is very similar to the 2d sonic games.
Dynacat looks absolutely fun.
Super glad you mentioned Penny's big breakaway, it deserves more attention.
Dammmmmn someone remembers Dorito's Crash Course, this was my childhood
You should play marble blast, It likely inspired some of the games you covered here, and has pretty good sonic like gameplay.
You might consider covering Lightspeed Lina (though there's no demo or anything as of yet), Midi & Melody, Shang Mu Architect (an in progress Freedom Planet fangame), and Sulphur Nimbus (a sort of open, collect-a-thon-ish, 3D platformer focused on momentum and flight mechanics where I sorta see some Sonic DNA).
You mentioned Solar Ash, so I'll have to throw in The Pathless too, it may not be Sonic 1 to 1, but it really satisfies that speed itch and on it's own it's a fun game to play
Your voice is getting warmer and friendlier with every new video
Doritos crash course was THE SHIT when I was younger I have to check that game out again
tysm for making this video
I've been looking for more 3d sonic likes
there really aren't that many that measure up tbh
Gonna have to finally actually try these this time!
What are your preferred “Not Sonic Games”?
Mines are:
Freedom Planet
Rocket Knight/Sparkster
Bubsy
Ristar
I actually stumbled upon Crumble from its demo years ago, and somehow before that I had played the Doritos Crash Course demo a lot on the Windows Store back when I had first installed 8.1; really unlocked some memories with this one :)
One thing I learned about you, you love grappling hooks
Penny's is the lovechild of Rocket Robot on Wheels and Sonic, finished off with a timeless Dreamcast/GameCube aesthetic that I never knew I needed.
i believe polyroll pocket is not inspired by a gameboy style, but more of that on a neo geo pocket color like in sonic pocket adventure, that is why its called that.
Finally, a Chao garden and animal crossing alternative 💀
I’ve never cared about the chao garden, but something in me is actually annoyed that people keep pining for it.
Like, it’s a baby-care simulator. There are tons of games solely for that in mind, so why add it to Sonic? Surprised it still hasn’t been in Frontiers.
thanks for making this vid.
If you ever do another one of these, a really cool in development game is Project Feline.
Currently it has a couple of test (and proof of concept) stages as well as one finished stage.
It definitely takes more inspiration from jet set radio, then Sonic, but I still think that it is worth checking it out.
Sami Roll reminds me of Monkey Ball, which is surefire way to get me interested. Teabat looks like my cup of tea as well. Dustforce is also looking pretty good. Convenient timing for this video, with the Steam summer sale going on.
When Penny's Big Breakaway was announced on the Nintendo Direct I was like looks interesting until they said it's made by the team of Sonic Mainia and I'm now going buy it in day one
14:58 Mekazooo kinda reminds me of Space Station Silicon Valley
You would probably like mario vs donkey kong
@18:58
Spider-Blur the Hedgehog??
I love it. Lmao
Rayman legends has a few speedrun levels and you can run on walls
I like how the games got less and less like Sonic as the video went on.
Toree games were an instant buy at $1 each, thanks!
Dynacat looks like that early proto screenshot of Sonic-Xtreme (Back when it was on Genesis/32X) made into a game and I really liked the style of that screenshot.
Annother good physics based game that is in development is actually a fnaf/five nights at Freddy's fangame. Its not out yet, but it looks promising. Its called fnaf world: overbound. It not only has the physics based gameplay, but also has combat and 4 different characters with their own abilities. You can also switch between the four of them at any time.
Have you played Pizza Tower?
It's heavily inspired by Wario Land, but it also has very fast-paced gameplay with a high skill ceiling that rewards the player for knowing the fastest routes in each level.
Played the demo. Loved it. Just haven't gotten around to the full game yet.
@@Pariah6950 I think you'll absolutely adore the full game once you manage to play it
Kabounce is basically frontiers cyberspace after spindash update
There's also Lunistice! Charming point A->B collectathon platformer that wears a very proud Sonic influence. Especially on the later levels with a lot of dash rings and rail grinding. It's also designed to be very speedrun-able.
Not sure if you recommended this in another video, but *Grapple Dog* is a damn good platformer from what I've been playing.
It's not _really_ Sonic-like if I were to be honest (the form of level design being more restrictive with some very finely-tuned explorative elements reminds me moreso of Kirby) but I think you'd get a kick out of it.
I've actually seen the creator of Fist of the Forgotten on Twitch before unfortunately I forgot about it because it looks so cool, it's just I don't use Twitch much
The trailer for Poglings makes me appreciate how Sonic characters would move their heads and eyes to look at points of interest, namely the chaos. The character feels much more lifeless without that detail.
You should play Runman: Race Around the World. It's a fun free Sonic Rush-like game. But unfortunately the audio is bugged on Win 10 last time I checked.
you liking grappling hooks makes me wonder what you'd think about Loader from Risk of Rain 2. Very grapple hook and dash punch focused melee character. They alone elevated that game from just fun to EXTREMELY cool for me. You can do so many stupid movement things with them on top of getting even more options once you start getting items, like back up mag which gives you even more grapple hook charges. The fact you also get the option between a grapple hook that lets you hold onto enemies or one that just pulls them to you is really fun too. Not to mention the ground slam attack or the tesla coil you can throw out and then grab onto for weird high skill manuevers or how your punch dahs or camera movements plays into your momentum and grapple speed.
Loader has really fun movement. But I don't really like Risk of Rain 2.
one day i'lll finish the game i'm working on that would woo% fit this list.
Rodea the Sky Soldier is kinda like Sonic Adventure + NiGHTS, and it was directed by Yuji Naka himself.
Just make sure you play the Wii version and NOT the Wii U version.
toree mentioned ✊😭
toree GOAT
I used to LOOOVE the demo for Dustforce on the 360.. which is a shame because idk why it just never clicked for me when I got it during a Steam sale and tried to play it again. Felt clunky and too heavy.
I hope anyone who gives it a go enjoys it tho!
Next episode: «Distance is peak boost sonic gameplay»
jk
toree is so good
I have a feeling Poglings is going to disappoint a lot of people. It looks great, but I remember I got Viva Piñata on 360 because it reminded me a lot of the SA2 Chao Garden but a lot deeper, and yeah that's exactly what it was. But then I figured out that if a game is JUST that, it's super boring. SA2 had the perfect loop of action stage, Chao, action stage, Chao. You get bored of Chao, you do an action stage, which lets you get stuff to raise your Chao further, it's a perfect feedback loop. But if you've only got the Chao garden, no matter how deep it is, most people will get bored of it.
I fucking love Toree. If you’re reading this, please buy it.
crazy how 2 videos into this series you still haven't mentioned pizza tower
He may have mentioned it last video, Defunct is great one
Dynacat looks really good. Now if Dynacat was a Blaze the Cat solo game. Just sayin'.
Have you played the Prince of Persia Sands of Time? Playing it myself, and it seems like something you might like
Also, i just learned that jon burton (founder of travellers tales) is making a goddamn funko pop game, which is the only thing that can make me interested in anything to do with those things
Krumble reminds me alot of exo one, which is a game that could probably go on this list
Will you try to do a review for season 2 of sonic prime, like you did for season 1?
No. I'll do a full series review when everything is out.
you should do a video on the Umihara Kawase series
When is your next Sonic story video?
What about Advent Neon?
What about super cat tales paws I feel momentum in it
I humbly thank you for this video.👍
My wallet and time management skills disagree.😅
Although all of these games you mentioned here are pretty cheap, so...my wallet isn't actually that angry
Hmm sanic
You had another chance to mention Pizza Tower and you missed it😑
Pizza tower
Ok, I feel like you are grasping for straws by calling those games Sonic-like. There is probably something that you could compare to Sonic but still. But I suppose those are worth checking out.
Well, I know you don't care about American-made Sonic like Sonic SatAM but I am gonna mention it anyway. And although I never watched this cartoon, I think I heard enough about it and I feel like drawing comparisons between some elements of Sonic SatAM to some video games like Freedom Fighters, (the game) Crysis 3, Xcom 2, (2016) Wolfenstein New Order and it's sequel New Colossus, Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal and Rift Apart, and God of War Ragnarok. (The Freyr team part of it)
Also for some reason, I feel like drawing comparisons Quake 2 to Sonic SatAM even though they practically have nothing in common. I dunno, maybe I just feel like comparing Strogg to Robotnic's forces.
EWWW YOU PLAY WITH THE REMIXES IM GONNA THROW UUUPPP
It's not that bad
I will be long dead before any youtuber talks about ripple dot zero
i believe polyroll pocket is not inspired by a gameboy style, but more of that on a neo geo pocket color like in sonic pocket adventure, that is why its called that.
