Grew up in West Philly in the 50's, there were three records that would stop me dead in my tracks whenever I heard them on a radio. "Baby Oh Baby"; Nutmegs "Story Untold" & the Shields "You Cheated". They still stand out as superb recordings all these years later & still command my attention. Harmonies are tight, complex, soaring, instrospective & profound. Whenever I passed by an open window where the radio would be playing these tunes I would instinctively call out to "Turn Up The Volume".
I was also from West Philly (57th & Christian) went to Sayre and Bartram, was friends with Justine Corelli and Danny & The Juniors, ate soft pretzels and drank Pepsi every day, and damn I sure miss those times, especially for all the street corners from Elmwood Avenue all the way to Lancaster and Overbrook Avenues. We could get 4-6-10 guys together on a street corner, and sing for hours. Well it has been going on now for 45 years of forever so I guess it will be around in the 23rd Century.
