안녕하세요 햄스터 랩입니다.
It has been a year since I raised a hamster in the soil. I've been watering the hamster with a bucket of water. It didn't seem to fit the purpose of the true naturalistic cage. So I'm going to build a small pond and grow aquatic plants and small creatures.
The next video will add a filtration system and various plants.
햄스터를 흙에 키운지 1년이 되었습니다. 그동안 햄스터에게 물통을 두어 물을 줬는데요. 진정한 자연주의 케이지의 취지에 맞지 않는 듯 했습니다. 그래서 작은 연못을 만들고 수생 식물과 작은 생물들을 키워 보려 합니다.

It looks so cool, I would just place some more rocks near the edge sticking out of the water, so that if cotton were to fall in by accident, he can have an escape route. Also, with the addition of rocks Cotton can possibly get closer to the water in order to drink. 🙂 it's so cool he can drink water like a hamster would in the wild!
Yes I was just coming to say this. hamsters can get sick very easily if they get wet and their body temperature drops. there should probably be more rocks than water so then he can drink without getting wet at all.
@@SassyShelly I would 100% agree, I think the decision to make a pond in the cage was pretty controversial and not really the best thing. Yeah, more rocks than water would be a safer route to go. I get that @HamsterLAB is trying to make their hamster's enclosure as natural as possible. But we need to consider that domestic hamsters, are, well, domesticated. They are pets and as owners we need to limit accidents and keep them happy and healthy by not putting potentially dangerous items in the cage. It's not good to "chance it". :)

By washing the substrate, rocks, and gravel before putting it into the aquarium, you will have fewer issues with cloudy water. Also, make sure that all wood items are safe in water and won't leach toxins or tannins into the water supply, and poisoning your hamster. A circulating pump with a filter will keep the water cleaner as well, which is paramount in keeping an animal healthy.
Filter floss is really good at filtering tannins and clearing cloudy water too!
Hamsters can easily drown. Actually all rodents can. I’ve found them all bloated and dead in my backyard pond. Terrariums are better suited for amphibians and reptiles because they need the humidity and some like to bask in water, sometimes to help with shedding, it’s something a hamster doesn’t need.

흙에서 살면 케이지 청소는 어떻게해요? 응가랑 쉬를 어떻게 청소할지 와 진드기 같은것은 안생기는지 궁금합니다. 건강한 환경에서 행복해하겠어요.
흙 미생물들이 자연분해해서 청소해줄 필요가 없데요
애초에 흙 입장에서는 비료나 마찬가지인데 딱히 안해줄듯
흙냄새에 묻혀서 냄새도 안 날테고
The water looks nice, but as others have mentioned, it's unnecessary and poses a hazard to your hamster's safety. It would be better to leave the water out of the enclosure and stick with water bottles or small bowls for water. Use the space for things your hamster can use, like hiding places, stones for filing nails, etc. It would be better to have a place where they are safe and healthy than a place that looks pretty but can cause them harm.
Another way is to just put a glass on top of the water.
Dont hamsters have water in nature? Hahaha. People are being so weird like. Oooh water is dangerous then how do you think hamsters do survive in the wild with water.

@@globe1987 yea exactly they can SIPPP in puddles of water. the chances of them falling in are slim and getting out shouldn't be a problem.
The cage is meant to imitate nature, they have water in nature. 🤷
제가 예전에 기르던 햄스터가 탈출해서 어항에 빠져 죽은적이 있어서인지 빠질까 불안하네요...
얘들은 헤엄도 못치고 빠져나온다 해도 물은 햄스터에게 안좋으니 연못은 안좋은 생각같다고 조심스럽게 말해봅니디

Not a good idea, hamsters shouldn't get wet. It messes up thier natural oil and can ruin thier fur. Also they can drown very easily. Something like this would be suited for a different animal, definitely not rodents. I love the rest of the cage though, very big and natural. Good job on that

This is a lovely idea for mice and rats! But I think this is a huge unnecessary risk for a hamster as getting wet can do them serious harm, alongside the risk of drowning. I know you took steps to proof the pool but its a risky added to the enclosure for the same of decoration
Hamsters naturally live in environments that get sudden and heavy rains. He’s an animal not a baby and is perfectly capable of getting a drink without getting his whole body wet. He lives in soil which is how wild hamsters dry themselves off if they get caught on a down pour. He does need rocks to escape if he falls in, but he will be fine. Most pet hamsters get sick after getting wet because of their environment, not solely because they got wet. Typical hamster cages don’t allow them to dry off quickly and typically already caused them to have poor lungs, while a natural hamster cage is full of absorbing materials
Technically in the wild hamsters drink from way bigger ponds/puddles.

Hamsters can swim very well, and fast if they have to. On top of that they are not soaked immediately as their fur is a little bit oily.

This is what I call a caring hammy owner that hammy has to be the happiest little man in the world
I'm worried about the hamster getting wet and getting sick but other than that it looks really cool and I like the way it was built in a very detailed way so I'm slightly concerned and impressed 👍✨
Also the cage is too small and I think it's not deep enough. (Cage size does depend on what the individual hamster wants/needs but there are cage sizes that are below cage requirements for that species).
I dont think the master will get sick b ecuase it mimics its natural environment and if it does there are people to treat it!
@taliamaghanga the problem is the size mainly, it may look natural but the hamster can't behave naturally as there isn't enough burrowing space, they don't usually live that close to water. Over 6 inches of burrowing is required as well as a much longer and wider enclosure.

If the water is cold and there is no one to dry them, the chance of them dying is high, either due to heat loss or because they have dense coats, which causes the hair to dry out a lot naturally, often not even drying properly. This causes fungus and skin problems that eventually kill them. In the wild, they avoid getting wet and only enter the water if it is a very urgent case to save themselves from predators

I don't know much about hamsters swimming, so I'm not going to say anything about the pond. However, I think the cage looks stunning and beautiful. Glad to see someone willing to put so much effort into their hamster's enclosure!

햄스터에게 자연을 만들어 주시다니 멋집니다... 시간과 노고가 많으셨겠어요. 자연에서 가장 행복한 것도 맞습니다. 하지만 연못 깊이가 너무 깊어서 걱정 되네요. 인간 관점에서 보면 작은 연못일지라도 햄스터에겐 몸집의 몇 배나 되니... 혹 빠져서 귀에 물이 들어갈 경우엔 상상하기도 싫네요ㅠ 고름이 차 청력을 잃을수도, 저체온증, 최악의 경우엔 익사할 가능성이 있으니 부디 얕게 바꿔주심을 고려해주세요.

Its so relaxing to watch the amount of care you take of this terrarium. I would have just put a terracotta watering dish in the bottom and changed it every day.

They are not naturally inclined to get into water and they usually don’t like to get very wet. If your hamster falls in the pond it will put them under a lot of stress. This stress can weaken their immune system and make them susceptible to disease. I don't recommend this water in the tank. Hamsters shouldn't really be kept in soil since there need a dry environment. Good luck to you and your hamster I hope you take this advice. :)

Is it not a worry the hamster will misjudge the water? If there is floating plants on the waters surface he might mistake it for land and fall in.
That might be possible but hamster can smell the water!
Hamsters have a very developed sense of smell, so it's okay.

그들에게는 작은 물그릇 하나면 충분합니다. 또한 햄스터가 빠질 수 있습니다.

IF u dont mind i have a few questions.. is the hamster from a regular pet shop and my other question is if the hamster is a dwarf shouldn’t it be more desert like? but ur care is amazing and hamster is definitely living its best life but just something I wanted to ask ❤️

Hello I understand your point that your hamster will not go near the pond but making your enclosure look nice is not worth risking your animals safety. I get that the idea that hamsters shouldn’t be in water is highly exaggerated, however that is over 5” of water! That is dangerous. Please consider lowering the water level to just above the hamsters foot, that way it is safe, drinkable, enrichment and it is still aesthetically pleasing.
That place looks like hamster paradise, it kinda makes me want to get a terrarium like this for when I get mice again, and I say mice because hamsters are always mean whenever I get them… I got a dwarf hamster at one point and it never ever let me touch it, I couldn’t even clean its cage without it trying to attack me.
The mice I have had though have been really sweet though same with any rats I’ve had.

Aren't hamster fall sick easily if they take waterbath?
they do but they usually won't go in the water and the water is probably there to recreate their natural habitat as close as possible!
also the hamster will be able to drink water like they do in their natural habitat :)

Yes if they have a water bath they get very sick and die. But they usually dont go into the water willingly.

I hope the water doesn't become stagnant or it'll fester with bacteria and all sorts. It needs frequent replenishment like a slow moving river or stream would be.
Maybe they could add a filter or change with sterile water often
if you watch the whole video he adds a filter.

The hamster probably lived in a dry place without water. I don't think it's good to make a pond.
케이지가 좁고 케이지의 뚜껑이 닫혀있다면 일리가 있지만 그렇지 않고, 저 햄스터는 땅속에 굴을 파고 지내기 때문에 굴 밖의 온도와 습도에는 영향을 받지 않을 것이라고 생각합니다.
ケージの中が狭くてその蓋もされている状態なら一理ある意見だと思いますが…それとあの小動物は土の中に住んでいるので外部の温度や湿度に影響を受けることは多くないとも言えますね。

@@radioaktive1103 It is not safe. They have bad eyesight and could fall easily. Hamsters cannot regulate their body temperature when their fur is wet. They can even catch a cold or develop acute pneumonia.

Hallo, ich hatte mir auch Sorgen um Cotton gemacht, dass er reinfallen könnte. Aber er riecht ja das Wasser. Da wo er ursprünglich herkommt gibt es ja bestimmt auch Teiche/Pfützen. Die Kombination von Hamster und Aquarium ist interessant. Beides mag ich sehr. Und Sie sind schuld, das ich am Sonntag meinen ersten Hamster bekomme😆😌

I love this...that you could love your dear little fello so much to have his life with you so comfortable..We dont have Hamsters here in New Zealand but I have always thought how cool they were, and all you ever see is them in little cages like mice, with the so called Hamster Wheel..I love this Habitat...Good for you and your little friend..You have shown me alot more than I understood before..
I've done similar enclosures like this but not to this extent. Great job :)
