Crossing the border with a giant whisker pole hangin out the back of the 'Burban was absurd 😂
Another win for the 'Burb! 😂
I finally replaced our 94 suburban, which Pennsylvania ate, with a rust free 95 Chevy G30 van from South Carolina. Loved the Suburban. What a loyal rig it was for so many years. Still running great but the frame is... Well, it's pretty much missing. Hauled so much stuff with it!
I think all three boats (Calico, Delos and One Life) had great success using the suburban! Such a great vehicle. I loved driving that thing! But the Element was pretty sweet too!
Gary I find it very heart warming that the ladies onboard support their men through all the hardships. I watch a number of channels including Delos, Calico, La Vagabond & more. Brook you are a champion. There have been some tears but you always come through. I love watching your adventures & support you & others the only way I can. Today I turned 70 & here I am. Your the best.
I totally agree. I watch those Sailing channels and many others. A few episodes back poor Brooke was broken 💔. But she bounced back. No doubt that Gary is a great shoulder to lean on. Hugs from Texas 🩷🤠🩷
Happy Birthday, Earl!! 🥳🎉Here's to another trip around the sun!!🙌💙 Thanks for all the support, we really appreciate your comment!
Ha, yeah some days are pretty tough but I pulled through! Thanks for the hugs!
Love your channel!
Thank you, Paul! We enjoy sharing it with you!
That whisker poll must have been a game changer, listening to that sail snap over and over would get old for sure... now it's more efficient and quieter! win win..!!
The smacking of the sail is so obnoxious! So happy we won't have to deal with that anymore!
You two are so talented. Groovy episode.
For sure. Far out 🐬.
Thanks for the good vibes! 💙
You’re a one step closer kids,, keep up the great work !
Thanks, Donald! 🙌⛵💦
That's way cool, It's always exciting to get presents.
It was hilarious trying to figure out how to put it in the car!
@@SailingOneLife I bet. :P
Good Work ! Cannot wait to see you guys in the wind
Thanks, Rick! We are excited to start sharing sailing videos again!
You should never trust the shackles for your halyards on a bosun’s chair, best practice is to tie off a bowline to secure your weight for at least the primary line just in case the shackle or the splice fails, you won’t go splat on the deck and make a mess for Brooke to clean up 😊 Congrats on the 100th episode
Fair point, Stephen! With two halyards and two snap shackles attached we felt the redundancy was enough security for these little climbs. But, yes, agreed, always a good idea to tie a knot rather than rely on the splice and shackle, as they definitely can fail. Luckily Brooke didn't have a mess to clean
up!
I am sure you mean well, but he had "2" lines, and I have never in 40 years aboard boats, supertankers and sailboats seen a splice fail. Lines fail long before splices. "Snap" shackles can be a little risky, but most standard shackles are bullet proof for the weight of a man.
Dang, that’s one beautiful job!
Thank you, Nena! 💙
Wow! That came out nice❤
Thanks, Paul! We are really happy with it! 💙
These prep videos are a lot of work to watch.I can’t wait until we start sailing again so I can relax.
Relaxation is coming soon! Just a couple more boat yard videos and back to the good stuff!
Great video. Can't wait to see you splash the boat and start your passage!
Thank you! Sailing vids coming soon! 🙌⛵
Thanks for the nostalgic reminder of my high school physics lesson on pulleys. Love you guys.
Ha, happy we could assist with that reminder! Thanks for the love, Sandy! 💙⛵
Glad to see the lanacote on the screws on the track as you came back down. Great video!
Hey Allen! Thank you! Lanocote is good stuff!
No such thing as overkill on a boat. Nice job.
We 100% agree! Thank you!
Interesting that you connect to your bosun's chair with a snap shackle vice tying an actual knot with the line. Please be careful with that! 🙂
I thought I saw the same thing. A little snag could lead to a big fall.
Fair point, our snap shackles don't release under load (maybe I should say haven't yet instead of don't.) With two halyards and two snap shackles attached I felt the redundancy was enough security for these little climbs. But, yes, agreed, always a good idea to tie a knot rather than rely on the splice and shackle, as they definitely can fail. 👍
Wow, a great but expensive addition. Kirsten of the GGR used Twin head sails until a pole broke. She claimed when she lost her Twins she slowed down a lot.
This is a game changer for us! Speed plus no more slapping Genoa! 🙌⛵
Congrats on your 100th Episode. Well done as usual.
Can't believe it's our 100th video! Here's to 100 more! 🥳💃
Great job Everything I would want to know about Whisker poles. Thanks.
Thanks, Jerry! This pole is a total game changer for us!
Loved the stop motion of the assembly!
Thanks for noticing it, Alicia! 💙
LOL! Measure twice, cut once! I always manage to measure wrong twice or thrice and cut wrong too!! I envy people that get it right every time!!
Ha that's me too, Rodney! Luckily, Gary is on top of his game!
Congratulations on your 100th episode!💙
That's a great whisker pole you got there!
Thanks, guys! We are so stoked! It's a total game changer for downwind sailing!
Brilllllliant - thanks for sharing ⛵️ 👍I was in Rocky Point yesterday- looks like everyone set sail.
Hey Patrick! Yes indeed! Sailing vids coming your way soon! Our videos are a bit behind real time.
@@SailingOneLifeSV Delos are across and safe as you guys know already. I hope you and Gartly are there too by now.
Can’t wait to see the episode featuring the pole in action
We are excited for that one too! ⛵
The forespar pole and fitting the mast track was super sweet on our boat. Biggest plus was how it was so well made and did not rattle at all. Another big plus for us two women it was so easy versus lifting the pole from deck. However, all those added pieces to fit the pole was very costly!
We agree! The ease of deploying the pole with only two people is huge and super important. So happy you are enjoying yours! 💙
You guys did such an amazing job explaining the install!! 🙌
Thanks Mar and Mike! We really love how it turned out.
You guys have been busy. Whisker pole assembly is right on, nice job, Gary. All good here in OBX, still getting settled, but happy to be here.
Thanks, Ed! Happy to hear things in OBX are going well! Are you going to Annapolis this year?
I love seeing you guys. I can't wait until you start sailing across the ocean. I also like how you take the time to show us how to do what you do when installing things on One Life. Thank you for sharing!
Hi Brenda! Ah, thank you! Happy to hear this! Sailing vids coming soon! ⛵💙
❤🙌🏼can’t wait to see u on the water again with new adventures
Thanks, Jorge! We are really excited to start sharing sailing videos again!
You 2 are great. God bless you both.
Thank you, Carl! 💙
That will make your foredeck work a lot easier
100% game changer!
Nice job you guys installing your new whisker pole. Looks like it will be successful upgrade to One Life!!
Thanks, Steven! We are super amped to have it onboard!
Well done Guys. Congrats on your 100. Please take care always. Blessings
Thanks, Angel! Looking forward to sharing 100 more!
nice pole
Size matters
From a how-to perspective one of the better videos to date....loved Gary's explanation of all things whisker pole installation related.....amazing how handy/knowledgeable you've both become....your job Brooke of looking for screws made me chuckle....🤗
Thanks, Obie & Laurie! Gary's engineering background shines during boat yard projects! Miss you two! Cheers!
That's a very good thing to have for solo sailors and you did an excellent installation. Cheers
Thank you! We are very happy to have it. It will make our lives so much easier.
Loved seeing the engineering, and the headfirst dive into the project (and NOT from the mast!!). Great episode. 100? really? Very cool and CONGRATS!!
Ha, yeah diving head first the other way would not be an ideal 100th episode. Thanks for coming along with us on this wild ride, Matt! Can't believe you've watched us 100 times. 😂
That was elegant. Very nicely done guys!
Thanks, Larry! Glad you enjoyed this one!
@@SailingOneLife I always do!
Can't wait to see you on the ocean! So good to see your videos, always enjoyed! 😊
Thanks, Lois! Sailing videos coming soon!
The whisker pole is sick. The center cock pit is right on. 😃😃😃😃
Thanks! We are so stoked to have it onboard!
Fantastic addition. It will make your lives so much more enjoyable for years to come.

Thanks, Craig! We are so stoked with how everything turned out!
Most Excellent episode.!!

Thanks, Thomas! We really appreciate it!
Really enjoyed watching the details of the installation. Looks like a perfect solution. All the best...
Thank you, Steve!
Very nice work. ❤
Muchas gracias, amigo! 💙
Another great upgrade.....im amazed at how much you both manage to achieve. Some epic sailing ahead ......
Thanks, Graham! Epic sailing indeed! 🍻
Fabulous!
Thanks, David!
Slick!
Thanks, Chris! Hope you guys have a blast in Loretto!
Another great job guys :)
Thank you so much! 💪🙌

Çok teşekkür ederim! 💙
Cool show.....
Thanks, Matt! ⛵⛵
Congrats on the 100! Very helpful video
Thanks, Sean!
Thats nice!
Thanks! Total game changer for downwind sailing!
Good detailed video 👍
Thank you! Happy to hear you found it informative!
2 part comment:
1) if it's worth doing right, over-engineering is never bad.
2) There's no kill like overkill.
Absolutely agree!🙌⛵
Sweat install , I need one on my boat 😅
Thanks, Dave!
Thanks again guy's for yet another great episode! Thanks 👍
Thanks, Danny! Have a good weekend!
@@SailingOneLife you to guy's enjoy the great south pacific!!
Hey! Awesome set-up! We also just purchased a Forespar telescoping pole for BSBW. We were able to find a used one in the Abacos for $100. We had bought extra T-track as well as we didn't have quite enough already mounted on the mast. I like your 3/1 system. Good work you guys!
Wow!! That's awesome! Lucky, guys!! Telescoping and all, what a steal!! Have you used it yet or are you still waiting to mount it?
@@SailingOneLife we have the male sliding end on our Mast as you do. However we do not have the female end to the pole. So, we temporarily rigged a loop on the mast with dyneema and used the pole that way. We love it.
❤❤
Thanks for the love, Cindy! 💙
Another great episode. Always a teaching moment when it comes to sailing and you guys do it well. Congratulations on #💯
Thanks, Bruce! Can't believe we've shared 100 videos! We appreciate you coming along!
Nice work. This is a project I will be tackling on my boat within the next couple of months. Having the pole on the stanchions isn't very convenient or as safe to deploy.
Hi there! We agree! Much safer to have it up the mast in our opinion. Hope the install goes well. We've been loving ours.
i would be wary of the up the mast storage was racing yesterday and watched the boat next us with up mas have it fall down on one of the crew head stay safe
Oh wow, not good. Hopefully we installed everything correctly and we will keep an eye out to avoid any mishaps.
Great job on the stop motion animation. How long did it take? Kudos on setting up the whisker pole.
Hey guys! Thanks for noticing! It probably took about an hour from start to finish. It was our first time so, maybe next time will take a little less!
Would love to have identical pole, already have the connectors.
We love ours! Hope you are able to get you one soon!
When SIZE does matter: WITH A WHISKER POLE.
Absolutely!!!! 🤣🙌
Great job on the install of the whisker pole . Something I noticed tho . When you and Gary picked up the pole from the Gas station I noticed Gary had a 5 o'clock shadow . In the next shot , what seems to be you guys arriving back to the Marina , maybe it was the next day, but Gary has a full beard . Does he grow a beard that fast ? lol
Hey Joey! Good catch! We picked up the pole a week or two earlier but we wanted to show the whole process!
curious at about 16:38 in the video your at the mast, could you tell me the brand of blocks your halyards go thru, or were they on the boat when purchased?
Hi Kenneth! The halyard blocks were on the boat when we purchased it. Sorry we can't help!
You should wear a hard hat Brooke when Gary is up the mask just in case he drops something while he's fixing something
Ah good point! 👷♀️
♥️♥️🥰🥰
💙💙
Did you install a stop at the top of the track.
Hi Alex! Yes, we did!
what can Gary not do?
Thanks, Andrew! Super thankful for his engineering background!
Just be aware of potential corrosion between carbon and the aluminum on the pole
Hi David, we will keep an eye out!
I hope it doesn't offend you when, I point out, that You guys and Salt, and Tar, could do a husband swap, and few people would notice... Sorry I watch you both, and I thought I would share that thought... Thanks for Sharing your Life, at Sea... Giant Hugs
Hey Scott! Interesting, we will have to check them out! No offense taken!💙
It's a nice installation and all, but couldn't you have skipped the line and just used the pole to push the car up the track on the mast?
The line is needed to set the height of the pole when it's deployed. We'll show more of it in a later episode. The line is what keeps the end of the pole at the mast from sliding down when it's in use, and allows adjustments of it's height to get the pole to level horizontal. Stay tuned we will try to show all the details of how it's used when we are out sailing with it! 😁
@@SailingOneLife Oh, that makes sense. The height on mine is set with a spring loaded pin that goes into the holes on the track (the pin can be locked in the retracted position).
greetings! where are you guys excatly headed to, China?
Hi Elion! French Polynesia is first most likely followed by Cook Islands, Tonga, New Zealand for this year.
@@SailingOneLife nice, then headed to India I guess
Not sure! We try not to plan too far ahead as so much can happen between the boat and finances. But it's possible!
@@SailingOneLife yeah, I mean we would like to see more exotic and adventereous places...always if safe, you know what i mean
That looks a lot like 2:1, not 3:1. Not that it matters. 2:1 is alot for a pole.
It would be 3:1 if you were sitting on the pole while lifting.
Oops, yep you are right!
