Also, I had a patient who told me she was so proud of herself for keeping a cactus alive for quite awhile - until she realized it was fake! Haha! She was watering a fake cactus for months! I love it!
I live in Phoenix, AZ. I am so done with desert cacti. I loathe being stabbed by those A holes, having them jump onto you, killing bike tires, hurting my pets. I am so with you on that thought train
I used to feel the same way about sansevieria, but the moonshine type changed my mind. I also think the old man cactus is cute 😀. Like you said, “to each their own.”
I stopped the video and tried to name the plants on your list. I guessed 4 correctly. I missed Stag Horn Fern. I thought you’d say African Violet. I like most Sansevieria, but completely agree with you on all the others. I’m so happy to hear someone else on Earth doesn’t love a Fiddle Leaf Fig. It’s the worst!
I agree about yellow Snake plants but I think you would enjoy some varieties. I love my Whale fin, Sylvia, Sayuri, Bantel's Sensation and samurai. I think you would really like the samurai
I actually have an old man cactus. I have 3 cactii and it's my least favorite one because it's just growing up to be extra skinny despite being in a south facing window. I think the hair is cute but the overall shape isn't. My favorite cactus has 3" thorns on it and I joke the plant being my self defense if someone breaks in. Way more effective throwing that, than having a baseball bat maybe lol!
Awww…I like my FLF bc I haven’t lost a single leaf! I feel like they always look scraggly, but mine is branch’s my and full and for that reason I’m proud of it. But watching this channel is going to make me dive into a lot of my other varieties even more. Ugh, why does my house only have one east facing window!
The pilea was one of my first plants because I got a pup for very little money and also thought it was adorable :D Rn I’m trying to save it from root rot and I’m really curious about how it will grow and if it will get as high as some of them do. I wouldn’t have gotten myself a snake plant but a friend gave me 4 cuttings of three different plants when I was just starting out and it’s certainly a good plant for that. I don’t like it when it grows that long. One of them died, one that’s stretched already will go to another friend soon and the two I have left won’t stretch and just have this dynamic shape which I actually started to like at some point. One will stay completely green (don’t like the yellow lines either) and the other one is a tiny more yellow than green hahnii and I was sceptical at first but then I have somehow started to really like her ☺️ I called her Hanni. I don’t like spiky cacti either … there are really cool succulents, I have a lewisia and I will eventually get some kind of echeveria but those ones on the picture … nahhh. But also … how tf do you tell if the old man cactus has spider mites? 😅
I agreed with almost every plant you mentioned, except the snake plant. However, the only one I've owned and still like is the black coral. It's a striking addition in my living room about 6 feet away from my north-facing window and seems to like it. Finally getting a couple of new pups. But it's still not as full as many other sansaverias...but I like him. 😉
The first plant on your list is a plant that I really dislike and will never own. Fiddle Leaf Figs are also huge divas and I don't need that in my life. I love snake plants and have seven different varieties. I do keep the well lit and watered more often than usually recommended and all are thriving. I currently have three Staghorn ferns (none mounted). They are on the list of my top ten favorite plants. Growing up in San Diego, CA, my late father collected Staghorn fern varieties for his shade houses. These ferns are closevto my ❤ and I adore them. I like a lot of cactus with the noteable exception of the boobie and penise cactus, yuck!
I do horrible with most peperomia plants.i finally got the hang of string of...plants. I also find air plants hard. I like them, but are hard for me. Love calathea, and some that are a little fussy. Funny how I do great with some and not others.
I think we are all in that boat. I cannot keep an African Violet alive to save my soul! I also have trouble with Pilea Silver Cloud, I think it's called - aka Friendship Plant. I have killed 2 of them, back to back. There is another one that I cannot grow, but I can't think of what it is.
I have mixed results with African violets, mine loved it in kitchen window. It was on sunset side of house in Pacific northwest. They love to be bottom watered, the leaves are sensitive to water. They are propagated from leaf cuttings, and can be grown from seed. That are so lovely.
I totally agree with you on all of your 'not into this plant' choices except for the Sansevieria. I do have a Sansevieria Laurentii, and I love him! He is a totally different type of plant than I have ever owned before, and that alone makes him worth having for me. To my mind, there is something elegant, rugged, and classic about the way he looks and grows. I also want a Sansevieria Cyclindrical (sp?). The other plants I'm not into are the typical succulents. I just don't see the point of having them, and they are not 'pleasing' to me. I don't know if that even makes sense, but there it is. LOL
Except for the cacti, I respectfully disagree with you, but I fully understand what it´s like to dislike popular plants. For me those are most anthuriums, many philodendrons and a lot of (mostly yellow) variegated plants. Fuzzy, funky and weird plants do it for me, that´s why I actually liked the picture you showed of the more mature pilea peperomioides.
Cactus??? I have been passionate about land restoration since the 1990's. And, snd strongly adverse to thorns. I know they have a place in certain ecosystems, but the large amount of degraded land has caused them to proliferate more than they would on a healthier planet. I worked at The Natural Gardener, in Austin, at the help desk for four years. During that time I saw some magnificent cacti that were other wordly and pretty magical. However, I have never wanted to harbor and care for these exotics. I do love some of the zygo cactus, zig zag, etc. But, my dream would be to shrink the ecosystems that support this plant.
Totally agree with you on the FLF and staghorn fern. I could never see the appeal of them. I appreciate cactus in their natural desert environment, but I know better than to try to put one in my house! :) However, I love pilea pep. and I have 10 different snake plants in my house and office. I hate when I see them on lists of plants that require "zero sunlight." They love light!
I forgot to mention in the video that I’m also not opposed to fernwood varieties of snake plants, which I’m actually starting to see at shops a lot more frequently!
I have had both Sanseveria Trifasciata and the Pilea Peperomioides, as well as a cactus, as they were some of my first plants. They are cheap and easy to care for, and easy to find. I still have the cactus and the sanseveria, and they are dear to me because I saved them from what call the "big salty earth incident". Would i buy them again? I might if I see one that catches my fancy. I do really like the look of Euphorbias.
There are some fabulous looking euphorbia plants out there! I actually think a lot of people don’t realize that poinsettias are actually euphorbias. So literally probably millions of euphorbias get sold to people every Christmas. And also unfortunately get thrown away after Christmas.😬
I think the Chinese Money plant adult actually looks pretty darn neat! Fiddle leaf fig, agreed. It looks sort of sad to me. Snake plant, not a fan of sansevieria trifasciata. Do I have a few? Yes, my mother named them Timmy and Kimmy before she passed, so I am trying to love them! I prefer the my black coral and moonshine. With you on the staghorn fern. Yup, dead animal -esq. With you also on the desert cacti. Not my thing either. Great video.
Agree! I have a sanseviera (or however it’s spelled) Moonshine. It’s gorgeous, but don’t ever touch it. Hell, don’t even breathe near it. Any little touch and those perfectly pale green leaves get bruised and the bruises don’t go away.
With you on all of these! However, I do have a sansevieria moonlight which I love. Plants that create a hassle, like mounted stag horn fern, are not for me. And there have been too many bad looking fiddlee-figs for me to want to try one. No pokey cactus either. Thanks for sharing.
I like most plants, however, it doesn’t mean I want them all in my home. 😊 I lean towards dark greens, tints of blue or blue grey , silvers, and deep or dark purples. I like full and healthy plants like my Agleonemas. On the other hand I can appreciate the structural elements of the Sansevierias. I enjoy seeing plants that are different from my own. I own four different Sansevierias but I don’t expect others to have my taste in plants. Fortunately there are options for all of us. Love me some Hoyas but they’re not for everyone. 😵💫. Enjoyed this video and your content! 👌🪴🥰
Thank you! It took me awhile to get into Hoyas and there’s still quite a few that are just not for me. But with so much variety I feel like there’s a Hoya for everyone 💚
I totally agree with All the plants you have listed! I had to make a list for my kids if plants I do not like, cause I hey asked me what I want for my birthday or Christmas. I tell them plants lol.
I agree with most of your picks. I'm not into succulents, cacti and ferns at all, I prefer more... dynamic plants? Fast growers with ornamental leaves. Plain green leaves just aren't ornamental to me, hence the love for Goeppertias and Marantas of this world. My mum collects various Ficus species so I kinda grew on them lately.
Agree with the goeppertia love! I’m fine with all green leaves but prefer when they have something else unique about them like an interesting or unusual shape, or even if they have standout unique veining on them.
I own pilea peperomiodis. I like it right now. What will be in the future - nothing is certain. I dont think its a good reason not to own a plant. I hardly ever see ugly plant, but There are many plants that i will not buy because i think they are boring.
I have the Bambino flf and a regular. Both are small still. I never wanted them but ended up getting them simply BC everyone on earth seems to call them a challenge and finicky. I haven't experienced that (yet) but they are prob my two favorite plants now simply BC they are so darn random! They def have a funny look to them though! I want a basic snake plant but only the ones with the green/black as well. I was sent a golden hahnii baby and I do like it but it's not something I would've sought out. Cacti were on my list of no heckin way! Any plant that can stab me is a big no!
@@AlohaPlantLife ok so I did some research and I guess my old man IS NOT an old man after all lol I guess it’s a Hairy Rodger.. hmm lol well he’s still a hairy old man to me 😂 there’s so many different types
I agree with EVERY ONE of these. I do NOT like Fiddle Leaf, Staghorn, nor Those weird Mother In Law type plants. I'll never own any of those. I think they are all ugly. Sorry. JMO.
I can agree with most of the plants on this list… I love staghorns and am about to receive two of them but now I can’t stop thinking about them as mounted heads 😂 I’m gonna look into growing them alternatively to the boards now…. I’m a fan of succulents and grow them in my outdoor garden but they only cacti I would consider owning is the old man cacti and it’s just because I love the hairy look… and it would also grow outside… My indoor plants are tropical…. My outdoor plants are weird and colourful… 🪴🌵 9:10
