Because he could be wrong, and if that was the case and it was in trial, then the guy would have faced years in prison for it. Better to play on the safe side especially with a deal this damn good.

Why would the prosecution make a plea deal if they could prove the charges? If they could prove he actually attempted to murder 5 people and attempted to make criminal threats then why would they offer a lesser sentence?
The plea deal was offered by the prosecution and the story is not clear as to whether the defendant accepted it. If the defense does accept it than they are effectively admitting that he committed a crime, but what would the charges that he pleads guilty to actually be? It is not at all uncommon for a defendant to plea to a lesser charge or a reduced number of charges. When they do so they are effectively conceding that those (and only those) specific charges are provable beyond a reasonable doubt.
Why didn't he get sent to a mental hospital for further evaluation as part of his probation? He'll be back one day to carry this sick thought of his.

I wonder if he hid the weapons. If his room wasn't searched, or if the cops found no weapons, that may make it difficult to get a conviction.
People will need to take the law into their own hands if these DAs and LEOs keep forgetting their jobs are to protect innocent victims, not criminals.

Hopefully the judge refuses the plea deal, because this is a murderer in the making. If it’s not that school, it could be another. He definitely had things planned out, & the weapons to carry it out. This definitely should go to trial, if a jury finds him not guilty so be it. Unfortunately to often the guilty go free, while there’s innocent people in prison for decades.

How do you know he bought them? Any family member could have bought this 18 year old guns. And the purchases could have been since he was 14, 15 etc. The math is not inconceivable. 4-5 family members. Each buys him 2-3 guns a year. Dude started getting guns at 13, by 18 he could have maximum 75 guns (pistols, rifles). So if pictures showing him with 5-10 guns, it's very easy and plausible to know how this 18 year old has so many guns. You have no idea how rich his family is.
The fact he's getting a sweet plea deal without prison time should tell you he has one of the more expensive lawyers his family bought for him.

How did an 18 year old get so many guns and weapons without attention being called out towards him? Were the guns legal? Were they taken away? Can he buy more? Hundreds of questions need answers.
They are all the parents guns and rifles,yes they are legal the father has permits for them all.
And part of a plea agreement and rules for probation is that he's not allowed to obtain any weapons of any kind guns knives bows arrows, no weapons, or be able to own any ,if he's living with parents the guns need to be locked up and in some cases the person on probation won't be allowed to live anywhere that has gun's so his parents might have to get them out of the house if it's part of his plea agreement!!
This is a very touchy situation because I truly don't believe that the 18 year old is done yet, and unless psychiatric therapy is part of the plan or in the plea agreement he isn't going to just let those thoughts in his mind go!

Defense lawyers will typically claim that plea agreements are offered because the DA can't prove their case. They why accept the plea deal if you are so sure of your client's innocence ?

My initial thoughts after reading the headline was "wow, that doesn't sound right at all". After seeing the rest if the clip I'm a little surprised but in some ways not so much, to realize I'm not in line with the stories portrayed sentiment.
I'm sure that there are many who do believe the young man should have been incarcerated, but TBCH that would be no different than convicting someone for "pre-crime" as was illustrated in "The Minority Report". I can completely understand the difficulty to accept that in such a case like this, but ultimately the only thing I can see him possibly being criminally guilty of is the alleged possession of some of the firearms reported. He's definitely "guilty" of having reprehensible criminal thoughts, but I think we can all agree thoughts are not a crime, and the prospect that it can be an actual crime is one we do not and should not want to consider.
