    • @leiya107
      @leiya107 Před 4 lety +3

      @@rallynub956 I agree. Rafa's backhand may not be the strongest in the top tier, especially compared with Novak's and Stan's (when he's playing well), but it's enough to stand toe to toe IN the top tier itself. His fondness of returning too far back from the baseline is problematic at times, but I think it's also suitable for Rafa's playing style where he likes to simply swing away. Players like Federer like to take time away from their opponent, hence returning (and hitting) fairly close to the ball bounce. It's just different styles.

    The thing about Rafa is that while he isn’t the best in any particular shot (the forehand is arguable, I would say Federer’s and Delpo’s are/were better), he is the perfect mix of everything, and combined with his ability to compete, his drive and determination, and his heart, he’s able to accomplish far more than any of his competitors who may or may not be better in particular strokes, save Djokovic and Federer respectively.

    One of the most interesting aspects that few, but this interviewer did, ask -- vision. And it is so true that Federer has vision, the ability to see something that others may not (yet), and accordingly this ability gives him the ability to choose and hit shots that others want to but can't. Often, in the case of tennis, it is tied to his reflexes and movement too. And i think these abilities translate into why his interviews are often so fun and yet insightful to listen to.

      @@RichardsWorldwe are talking about current generation rn. which is why i chose Delpo over Federer. Federer's forehead was lethal during his prime between 2000-2010. That won him 15 grandslam during that decade alone. If we are gonna consider overall, I would put Nadal's (2004-2009) speed over Monfils too. He was faster than Monfils back then.

      In mentality Nadal would have to put himself in there. Even Novak recognizes Nadal’s mentality is stronger than him. It is a skill that Nadal has had since he started his career, Djokovic developed that skill not so long ago. Consistency is a factor to take into consideration when it comes to decide who is better in what field.

Novak’s mental strength is more streaky- depending on his mood, he can either go the Wimbledon 2019 way or just absolutely fold like in the Olympics SF or the 2022 AO Final. Rafa’s mental strength is more consistent, he always fights to the last point, win or lose- hence why he won the AO final against Meddy from 2 sets and 3 bps down when Nole couldn’t.
