To answer one of Alan's questions: Eli Roth did bad with this movie because he teied to make it a mash up of several instead of just making it Borderlands. Any time a director/producer says they want a video game movie to be like a mix of other movies, its near guaranteed to flop. The casting was horrible, the character looks were only about 40% accurate. And I get Jack Black is/was the ticket for voice acting but damn you could have done better getting the VA for Claptrap
Name tags end up with the same problem, you see pause look down and read the tag then say the name. You dont feel the 'hay they know my name' rush, just the 'ah they dont know who I am' feeling.
My initial reaction to Borderlands movie was: Oh, cool. Then: is that Cate Bla... Kevin Ha... What? Who casted this movie? Then I remembered that Borderlands peaked in Part 2. Maybe the prequel. Part 3 was like what happens when the funniest people leave and the rest are trying desperately to be as funny but failing and just making my eyes roll. The preview looked like more of that. We'll see.
Furiosa was a really good movie, but get why it wasn't a box office hit... I cannot confirm nor deny that I downloaded it from a less than legal site 🤷♂
27:00 those actors are so out of touch... Do you want to know someone's name, ask them. People shouldn't be bother when someone doesn't know your name also (like Alan said, he's horrible with names), but asking (and we know that in a few years, demanding) for everyone to "be equal" won't change anything. In the first day she'll wear her tag, but the next she won't because "it bothers me", "everyone knows my name, so it's nonsense to wear a nametag", "the tag'll destroy the clothes you guys (refering to the costume designers) made", etc, etc... I'm not someone in movie business, but I feel like this is one of those ol' cases of someone making a fuzz over nothing, creating a problem that never existed, and demanding a solution that'll only be expensive and divisive.
Thank you very much for the video... Great reviews... Sad that Borderlands didn't fall more in-line with the movie... It's a sad fact of Hollywood, going pretty far back... It is a rarity to get a half-way decent take of a game in movie format... Often the people doing the films, just do not understand what makes the games great, what the fans want, and/or are willing to put up with...
When Eli Roth strays out of his lane we get turds like Borderlands & Death Wish. He needs to stick to Horror, he is great in that genre & you can tell he is passionate about it.
There was a couple of faith-based movies that saved the studios and one of them was Quo Vadis and I think Ben-Hur was another one of them 10 Commandments actually there was two of those one in the silent error and then the one here in the in the 50s
That's not actually true, though. The first two films were hugely successful given their budgets and the third film, while not a runaway hit, was a modest success. Plus, the post theatrical life of a movie was very different back then.
borderlands ain't that bad mostly until the ending... it keeps close to the video games. movies can't be video games nor can movies be comic books or even books. any 2 hour more or less runtime cannot be a 20-30 hour game which is often repetitive fetch quests and milestone mini boss fights from "room to room" or scene to scene. it went ok until the twist which was justified with re-interpretation with flashbacks but cannot explain away the sudden i'm special (super) too moment. movies and tv made this way might be called jayjayed thanks to abrams method where the payoffs are un-cashable cheques made of rubber.
This Ends with Us sounds like genius, it got everyone in the audience (apart from the world weary, cynical old dog Alan) to feel like and mirror the emotions of Blake Lively's character - enjoying the romance, and then after the abuse - feelings of shock, bewilderment and loss. That sounds like impressive film making to me.
My ex turned violent after a wonderful couple of years. She said she did it to make me violent towards her, because she deserved violence towards her... We broke up when she could not say whether she had cheated on me and my trust was completely gone.
It's really not comparable tho. All those movies released when video game movies were new. They didn't have a roadmap and whole audience like now. Borderlands is so random tho in 2024. Even if they followed the roadmap and made a good movie it would have been a reach. Personally I never played borderlands but I always knew about and appreciated the game. But how does Borderlands get a movie in 2024. Especially with that cast it seems so damn random.
Take Two pushed this movie when the Tina D&D spinoff game released, very "modern audience" cringe with botched DLC. Borderlands 2: A Sci-fi Corpo-Parody Western where lovable over-the-top sociopaths act as mercenaries with insane arsenals trying to stop a comical yet deceptively clever megalomaniac Handsome Jack- who takes the term Hostile Takeover literally- from getting to the Vault. THAT should have been the movie, that ain't what we got.
Sorbo isn’t another drug dealer. And Peter isn’t a drug dealer. He’s a drug runner. Sorbo is a murderer. The movie is terrible, though. And the girl wears the same dress almost the entire movie
no offense to Mahershala Ali but helloooooo Michael Jai White ? he not only has the skills to be blade but he also looks the part much more he's badass oh and he's the youngest of the three
Jamie Lee is a good example of how the Hollywood “elite” think they’re doing good things, but in reality they’re just making things worse. Curtis had great boobs back in the day though 😉
Borderlands was fine, but it was like watching someone play a different game with the action figures based on the game. The whole point is it’s a 4 player adventure where you have to rely on each other - and all of the characters are distinct! Roland didn’t deploy a single turret!! This said, the world looked good and I didn’t hate the casting. Tina should have also been older to match everyone else, but then the character would kind of fall over I guess. And the R rated cut would probably have done better. But -if the goal was to get early teens into the world of Borderlands while their Pervy dads enjoyed the cleavage then mission accomplished
Duchess? Thanks, but no thanks. I used to love Neil Marshal. Two of my favorite horror movies are his. And then he married that woman, and now he's dedicated his life to make HER a star. Painful to watch, specially since he refuses to see she's using him. Not even going to finish this video. I'm out.
Worse than the Super Mario Real Action Movie from the 90's or the Double Dragon Movie? There some bad Video Game Adaptations out there. But i pass on that movie. Totally bored from another Girlboss Movie that is woke as garbage.
The last Borderlands video game was feminist garbage. I can't imagine the movie is gonna be any better. Lemme save everybody all the trouble..."Girls are awesome!!!....The End.". There, now you don't have to waste your money.

The only movie worth seeing with the word "Ernest" in the description stars the late Jim Varnery.
Grace Randolph only liked Borderlands because she has never played the game and has no idea.
nah she liked it because of Kate Blanchette, she said so herself. Also she will like any women empowerment media. even if it is bullshit.
Grace Randolph just had to be a contrarian she hated it but hates being authentic more.
Everyone should get paid equally on a film set too, will Jamie Lee Curtis agree to that?
"The Olympics?" I don't know anyone who's following this at all.
How can Borderlands succeed when modern audiences don't even know what borders are as they don't exist in this day and age?
@@pistonburner6448 something something pixie Ace combat
Ironically, they believe in the Ukraine's borders, and what does Ukraine mean in Russian?... Borderlands.

The answer to the title question: It's prohibited to say the word "Borderlands" at an airport.
Jemie Lee Curtis could just ask someone their name then try to remember. Too much work for her
Strike back is probably some of the best action TV ever made, glad to hear it being talked about
1:00:00 Borderlands review.
👎
Thank you❤

Lol, someone tell Jamie to turn over her call sheet. Everyone's names with positions are there.
Furiosa was a really good movie, but get why it wasn't a box office hit...

"Worst dialogue in a movie this year" makes me want to see Borderlands.

"I love Korean dramas so much, I don't pay attention to them when they're on." - Chris Gore, paraphrased
It was cool to see the superchat from Box Office Brawler. I love his channel!

Roth's Piranha film is hilarious!
Going from movies like Hostel to this only makes sense if they all just wanted a paycheck. They all knew it sucked but did it anyway

"Furiosa" was a damn sight better than a "not-bad movie", dude. Come ON!
Mad Max movies have always bombed at the box office. I'm surprised they've made this many.
That's not actually true, though. The first two films were hugely successful given their budgets and the third film, while not a runaway hit, was a modest success. Plus, the post theatrical life of a movie was very different back then.
Trading Places, yes truly glorious.

A Thief in the Night is a terrible student film from Ames, Iowa. I think there is a sequel, too.
Even if Borderlands is bad - people need to revisit Mortal Kombat Annihilation, Double Dragon, and the 90s Super Mario before calling it THE WORST.

Cuckoo trailer looks mysterious, odd and interesting. But I guess the film didn't pull it off.
A Mad Max film with Mad Max in it? That's crazy talk
Borderlands looked like ass from the very first trailer

Still have milli vanilli on cassette lol
Well at least after Borderlands Jack Black can fall back on Tenacious D.
Both Kevin Hart and Jack black should pray Jumanji 4 is successful only franchise keeping them relevant
Or, Curtis was trying to be based and figured this would be the easiest way to avoid pronouns. If so she’s not getting the credit she deserves.
Is Brick in it?
This movie is an easy pass.
So much so that you can get through toll booths by saying "Borderlands"
@@pistonburner6448 Sure but there aren’t toll booths where I live.
Who the heck asked for this show anyway? Not the players!
Let's be honest. Eli Roth is a half decent B movie director at BEST.
Poor Ashly Burch. A simple goofy youtuber is more loveable than modern Hollywood Tiny Tina.
Cate lost a bet which is why she is in Borderlands. Not kidding.
Really looking forward to Duchess!

What is a border anyway? - Democrats.
So the Borderlands movie was super annoying and unfunny? Sounds pretty faithful to the source material.

Dudes wtf. She's been doing this since *Halloween (and numbered her pages) Alan, twisted take on her. Stop it

I don't like Grace Randolph and her takes on entertainment. She is not a normal viewer IMO.
This movie was absolute dog water, and that's kind of an insult to actual dog water.
