The "bag thief" is obviously either drunk, has mental health issues or dementia. He looks so confused and his apologies appear sincere. To assume he's not a Royal Marine is a bit harsh after meeting him for the first time. He may have been one in the past and is suffering from PTSD.
He said he was in Iraq, Afghanistan.. Very tragic all the TBI and mental health issues that came out of those deployments .

@@jackspring7709 We all have a lot to learn, it's good that you empathise with him, but if he is threatening to kill people (see the next video) he needs to be sectioned, but sadly the facilities are are a bit thin these days, so he will end up being arrested instead. It is not easy to empathise when you are feeling threatened. Maybe you will understand better when it has happened to you

Having had a parent with dementia I recognised the expression on his face. People with dementia do things like this without realising, they also regress in to thinking they are their younger self. He may genuinely have been sorry when he was saying it. You can clearly see the confusion in his face and tbh when he was singing, you can tell their is something wrong with him.

I think maybe this guy has some problems mentally rather than just being your common thief, he looked quite confused when confronted. Most thiefs would have grabbed and run. Not condoning what he did, but there may be more to this guy than meets the eye, he looks like he might have some mental issues.

That's entirely possible. I had a friend that happened to. He would start to see pieces of his own furniture in the street. That's just the way his brain would interpret things that he saw. He had both a pulmonary disorder and dementia. He was a very clever man, has books to his name and was in the middle of writing another loosely based on his life's experiences. He had been in the navy in submarines - luckily getting away with his life when there was an explosion whilst they were in dock - a company director and a theatre director and a bookseller and book search as well as a writer. It was tragic to see him go down hill like that.
Whether he has mental health issues or not ,, he was quite threatening in his confusion, for sure he needs help before he hurts someone.
I get it. You don't like being stolen from. Kind of reminds me of a guy I once knew who grew up a single child , pampered for the most part and carefully guided through his adolescent years, living in a bubble of sorts, only to miss out on the basic skills it takes to understand the real world and its complexities. I believe that man was truly sorry. His actions were dead wrong but ...forgiveness and understanding are the way to rise above his shortcomings in life. Your inability to do this reflects a bad light towards you. People are very observant. Take time to reflect and view the world through others eyes. Sympathize with those who have not the privileged life but life riddled with desperate survival needs. We love your show. We will keep watching.... for now. Take a good hard look in the mirror.

The legal definition of theft is "the dishonest appropriation of property belonging to another with the intention to permanently deprive the other of it." I couldn't see any evidence of him trying to permanently deprive you of it. He didn't try to hide it, or run off with it.

Seems like the only hero in this story is the calm policeman who separated the two. Dr K, you should have recognized this guy was off when he started dropping F-bombs in his sing-along. Could have started the de-escalation at that point. Perhaps switched over to some Mary Poppins tunes? There were families with kids watching. I presume the bald one needs some psychiatric attention and the policeman seems to be the only one trying to sort it out. Please be safe, Dr K.

Hi Brendan, I think you over-egged this tbh. If the guy was going to steal your bag and jacket he wouldn't have stood there holding them. The fact that he thought it was his makes me think he may have Alzheimer's or some other dementia/mental problem. You need to read these situations much better than this. This was not real thievery - it would have gone in 50 seconds if it was. Otherwise it could get dangerous especially if you escalate unnecessarily. Adopt a worse-case scenario with any encounter or potential altercation - assume the other side have nothing to lose whilst you have everything at risk. Try to create an ‘out’ as much as possible.

Poor bag guy seems to have had one booster too many.
I don't think the guy really knew what he was doing and clearly had a problem with his mental state otherwise he could have walked away at anytime with the bag long before it was noticed missing, once the bag was taken back from him the situation could have been left at that and then left with the police to deal with but Brendan then went on what seemed an age of at least 15 minutes of antagonising the situation and wouldn't let the matter drop when if ignored and allowing the police to usher the guy away as they did, all would probably have ended amicably, lesson 1, don't leave your belongings out of sight. 2 be careful who you engage with as you did initially and then ended taking the proverbial. 3 don't antagonise a situation once it's occurred and being dealt with .
Just my opinion of what I've viewed.

Bald guy is NOT a psycopath, he is having a psychotic episode of some kind with halusination and genuinly think it is his bag. It can also be dementia, people with dementia can also halusinate and see things that is not there and thing things that belong to other is theirs...
I had one time the extremely unpleasant experience of being at hospital hooked up to a machine that had to be kept running and sterile while sharing the room with a demented patient. He suddenly walkup up to machine and started to tinker with it thinking he was a work doing work and that it was his machine. I lost my cool and told him very angrily that this is my machine and my life depends on it and that he was not allowed to go near the machine , the look in his eyes really broke my heart but I had to do it for my own safety, it is one of the most hard and stressful things I have ever done.... Then I called the nurses and told them what happened and said I must be transferred to another room as this is to dangerous... Soon after they removed him from my room and moved him to somewhere else... I will never allow the doctors ever to put me in same room as a demented person, you need a lot of training to handle such people, and I have not that or any experience prior with demented people.
